Disappointed
tymoody15 July 2021
I'm a huge fan of American Horror Story, but this entry in the spinoff was very unnecessary. I'm looking forward to the next episodes that are new and fresh, but I'm done with the murder house storyline. Especially when they don't even include any of the original cast from that said season. That being said the cast was full of very good actors and I would have loved to seen them in a different story, but not this one. This was the one that should have remained in the drafts and I'm concerned for the show as a whole because this episode might deter people from continuing. Hoping for the best next week.

Unenjoyable
ssksks3015 July 2021
I understand that this is an extension of the previous murder house storyline, but it's not nearly as enticing. Especially when many of the new cast are not even actors, just children of celebrities.... The dialogue was hit and miss and delivered in a cringeworthy manner at times. I'll stay with it through the season, but I do hope the show improves.

A safe and familiar path
tomfeddema16 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Alright here me out: The episode? Enjoyable. Was it good? It was ok. And the only reason it was 'ok', is because they know this episode would be 'enough'. A family moves to murder house with their daughter who has psychological problems, she gets bullied at school and kills/scares the bullies in the basement. Sounds familiar? Yes, because they've literally pulled this in season 1 of AHS. A spin-off is a show based on the same universe as the original show, with new storylines, a new plot etc. This was the most BASIC storyline they could pull. For the people who say it's good: it only feels good because it feels familiar. Don't be satisfied so fast. Just because they are back in murder house and because you get a nostalgic feeling doesn't mean it's good. Nothing new, no new plot, just really familiar. A spin-off means new opportunities, and they choose the safe familiar path where nostalgia is the only reason why this episode was enjoyable.

Passable 45 minutes.

Warning: Spoilers
I didn't dislike it but it was all a cliché. If you like high school movies then nothing about this was shocking. I did like the sadomasochistic spin, though.

Also, Paris Jackson acts like a robot.

WAS SUPER EXCITED but first two episodes...
catfanatic88816 July 2021
I was super excited about watching this but I wish it wasn't mostly about celebrity's kids starring in the roles instead of real actresses. Hopefully that won't continue... but I fear it will...Matt Bomer is fabulous as always and the woman who plays the psychiatrist. I will keep watching as a loyal AHS fan but hope it gets better than the first two episodes. For right now I am underwhelmed.

Far from perfect, still highly entertaining!
crazyk-6026119 July 2021
The scariest part is the music, not much horror here.

However, the writing and plot of these episodes is very tight and entertaining to watch. I found the comedy of this episode to my favorite part, as well as the character dynamics. Also love the queer representation!

Looking forward to seeing what else is in store for this series!

It just seemed so rushed and the story was all over the place. It was not scary whatsoever and the acting was horrible.

Episodes 1 & 2 off to good start

Really loved these two episodes. Matt Bomer is as usual, fantastic. Also, these two episodes start with the first Season Murder House and that is what I was expecting these to be.

Not that kind of murderous episode
ritvikrajsingh21 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed the episode but it was not that type of murderous episode I thought of and there were only one or two times we could see rubberman the twins and infantanta. And there was only once where we can see piggy man .. I thought that the ghosts of Paris and her friends would kill her outside but no I wanted to see Evan Peter and other ghost but no Let's hope another episode is going to be better.

Why is the acting and writing is so bad?
biologymajorjakob17 July 2021
It's just so lame, halfassed, and boring. The acting is so stiff and there is no emotion behind any of it. The writing is lame and cringey.

Actual line from this "You guys are dead so you won't need your 401ks"

It's a massive waste of time.

All of the "teens" look way too old to still be in high school.

Had no intention of watching this, glad I did.

Warning: Spoilers
I had heard nothing but bad things of this show so I was never gonna watch it. However I was watching season 10 of AHS and this started auto playing afterwards. I gave it a go and really glad I did. I was not sure where the story was gonna go especially when the gimp suit made its appearance! Also Paris Jackson was great as the mean girl.

The complaints are unreasonable
Given that this is an anthology with individual eps shot while Covid is still a thing, I didn't think it was too bad. People don't seem to understand that Ca has some of the strictest requirements. Though they're allowing productions to go forward, it's with very strict guidelines that will continue to affect quality. The comments that they just used a bunch of celebrity's kids who aren't actually actors just shows people don't bother to check their facts. A quick review of the actors' IMDB pages shows that only 2 are related to celebrities, and only one had no previous experience. Additionally, it's not unusual for Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk to use young actors with few to no credits. Just check the cast list for Glee, another of their creations that was very popular. Everyone has to start somewhere. Most had relatively minor roles, and I thought they did well with what they were given. The story did repeat some from the original 1st season, but there could be a number of reasons for that, and it wasn't enough to really bother me. Part of the lore of Murder House is that history repeats itself. As for Scarlet, the main character, a 2 ep story isn't enough time to really get to know a character and develop any attachment, especially one who is a murdering psychopath. Many of us love Tate, but we had a whole season to get to know him. We got a lot of back story that helped to explain why he was the way he was. And he's played by Evan Peters, who could probably kill people in real life, and many of us fans would be like what's wrong with our baby, we have to help him, because... he's Evan Peters. By the end I was warming up to Scarlet, and I'd like to know more about her. One question that was left open was whether or not her kidnapping created her psychopathy. I did like the relationship between her and Ruby, and I especially liked the ending. I don't want to give anything away, so I'll just say her fate is not a rehash and may even be a first. Last, not sure how people can say a story involving a psychopath in a house full of ghosts is not a horror story. It's true it wasn't that scary, but not all horror stories are. It wasn't the best ep. The story was a bit rushed and could have been better written. But it wasn't the worst ep either. It was a solid start and good enough that I'll keep watching.

Pass
lucaschriskowalski16 July 2021
Bomer and Creel are good, that's about it. I so badly wanted this to be great, a huge fan of Season 1, since then it's been "meh", I cannot put my finger in what made it so cringe but it was uncomfortable to watch.

I was so excited
Squib3116 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I've been counting down the days and was really looking forward to this. I wanted it to be good. I wanted my mind blown as AHS has done in the past. This fresh new series of Stories was a great opportunity. Unfortunately I felt they played it safe. Nothing shocking, nothing jarring or disturbing. Nothing that left me with something to think about. Hopefully I'm being lulled into a false sense of security and soon I'll have the floor violently ripped from under me. True, my expectations are high but I know they can deliver.

Good first episode
brian-wiz11 August 2021
IMDb should really remove the user reviews because they are pointless. 1 and 2 stars? Sign of the times, I guess. I give it a 7. It's exactly what I thought it would be. A nice little slice and a throwback to the first season.

Rubber Woman 1
bobcobb30127 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoy two parters for the most part. Not sure if this was the right way to start a new series, but at least it gave us something to binge watch right out of the gate.

It began as an interesting premise, bringing an old American Horror Story concept to the forefront and combining it with teenage struggles all too familiar to everyone, but they jumped the shark way too early. We started having people die and die and then ghosts making decisions for people.

From a goofy horror perspective I guess it was kind of fun, but as someone who loves The Twilight Zone and wants more "think" episodes in that aspect it missed the mark.

Disappointing
vagus-36-46562718 July 2021
More of the same, more TV shame. It's not horror, it's not soap, it's not gay rom-com. It's just pointless and naive.

Bad acting, as a result of terrible direction and writing.

All the above come from a patient fan of the series. The worst start possible.

This and the 2nd part
ronjagustafsson-450139 October 2021
It has a fresh take on the "haunted house" plot. The acting was great on the main actors/actresses so it made up for the lesser performance of the side actors/actresses. I recommend these two episodes greatly.

"Well, I haven't seen any ghosts yet."
classicsoncall10 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I've never watched a single episode of 'American Horror Story', can you believe it? My adult son clued me into this episode since he's been a fan from the beginning. First off, I'm definitely not part of the target audience for this kind of program. The show touches on as many aspects of the woke culture as possible and even if I don't approve, I was able to watch it dispassionately given the horror elements I expected to see. The ball gets rolling a few minutes in, (literally, you have to see it and you'll know what I mean), as disaffected lesbian teen Scarlett (Sierra McCormick) begins to experience the typical bumps in the night that come with these types of programs. What I didn't expect was the fairly rational dialog from her gay adoptive parents Michael (Matt Bomer) and Troy (Gavin Creel), who offered the kind of guidance, limitations and support you would expect from traditional parents. However, when Scarlett was set up by a potential love interest, it led to a series of grisly murders worthy of your fondest lake house slasher flicks. And with the killings occurring at the infamous 'Murder House' introduced in the original AHS series, the stage is set for a Halloween rendezvous in which the spirits trapped in said Murder House are set free to continue their murderous rampage in the second part conclusion to this 2021 opener.

A rather entertaining episode but it is not scary. It's nice to see the credits of AHS again. I'm waiting for part 2.

Idk how to feel about this...
gomestim26 January 2022
Look it was not that bad tbh. It's just that when you do a story set at the Murder House, then at least connect it more than just a few references... this story could have easily been set in a separate setting and it would honestly have been better. But the girls live stream thing was so cringy..

Meh.
devin-provost20 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Overall not terrible, but I really don't think this added anything to the Murder House story. I'm disappointed by the fact that the Harmons made no appearance aside from one throwaway line from the therapist when they made it their entire mission to scare people out of buying the house. Did they just forget about that? For that matter, where were any of the dozens of other spirits in the house? I think only one has an actual appearance, aside from the rubber man that were just supposed to believe is Tate (I assume) when it looks nothing like him?

Also, I'm EXTREMELY disappointed that the death reveal for the dads was the EXACT SAME ONE they used for Violet in Murder House. Trying to run out of the house but ending up back in the kitchen, then a flashback to when they died. I really didn't like that. There were so many other ways they could have done that, like having them stumble upon their own bodies. Even shaving Ruby explain it to them would have been more creative and exciting than using the same exact reveal.

I'm very disappointed, but holding out hope for improvement.

Disappointing
sugarmarilyn13 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The writing and the acting were abysmal. It felt very cheap and a shadow of its former self. The creators are definitely milking that cash cow for what it is! It was nice(!) to see infantata but that was the only original cast member, which was disappointing. Didn't recognize anyone apart from Matt Bomer. Yes, I understand you need to bring new -ahem- 'talent' but even a cameo from the original cast would have given it that bit of an edge. I'm hoping future episodes will be better.

I really liked the episode and don't understand all the hate. Didn't bother me at all that this first episode was based on Murder House.
