Better than the first
14 July 2021
I honestly did not expect to find this movie that enjoyable. I kind of disliked the first Boss Baby just cause the humor fell flat for me in a lot of places and it was mostly aimed at a very young audience, (Which is fine, nothing wrong with that). But Family Business is genuinely funny, like I admit it's not a comedic masterpiece or anything, but I feel like this movie fully commits to what it is and it chooses to have fun with it anyway. The first movie kind of attempted this but it didn't go all the way in it's execution. This movie is pretty much just non stop chaos amongst the screen, does any of it make sense? No of course not, but it acknowledges this and uses it to it's advantage. I will always appreciate the cartoon that knows that it's a cartoon and doesn't attempt to pull at your heart strings but rather provide a few laughs for ya, and Family Business did just that.

Why did I take the time to write this? I don't even have kids.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (2007 Video Game)

The Nathan Drake Collection is worth every penny so far!
8 March 2020
I recently bought the Nathan Drake Collection and just completed Drake's Fortune. I am so glad to say that I Loved nearly every aspect of this game. First off I was shocked to discover this game came out in 2007 because it feels like I'm playing a modern day videogame with how smooth the gameplay and overall mechanics are. This is definitely up there with Half-Life 2 in the sense that it was way ahead of it's time upon release. The plot is good and fairly simple and you've seen it before most likely, but the highlight is the characters that accompany it. Nathan Drake is a legend of a gaming protagonist, you don't even have had to of played any of the Uncharted games and you know the name at very least. The chemistry between Nathan, Elena, and Sully is nothing short but brilliant. As for the Villains they are serviceable. They aren't mesmerizing antagonists but they aren't totally 1 dimensional either, they do their job in being main threats for our characters to overcome which is totally fine with me. So all in all, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is such a great game that leaves you with the same feeling as a fun summer blockbuster. This is only my first introduction into the Uncharted series and I can't wait to see what the next three installments have in store!

Did Some Thinking
1 March 2020
When I first saw El Camino, I couldn't help but feel slightly underwhelmed after seeing it. I knew I still enjoyed it but I was expecting much much more then what the movie laid out. But after some thinking and a few rewatches I noticed my mistake, I was pretty much expecting another Breaking Bad. I was expecting the same thrills and high octane action that Breaking Bad provided, and while yes you still get action and thrills it's a much more contained movie then that. It's pretty much it's own character study of Jesse Pinkman. And that's perfectly fine, It's great actually! El Camino taught me that It's better to always keep an open mind when seeing movies cause they won't always be the same as their counterparts. And in the end I'm glad I didn't get another Breaking Bad, otherwise this movie would 1) have no reason to exist and 2) It wouldn't be special.

Red Dead Redemption (2010 Video Game)

Fantastic! (But needs a remaster)
5 February 2020
Red Dead Redemption has a fantastic story with amazing characters. John Marston is one of the best protagonists I've played as in a video game. Even though they are given an underwhelming amount of screen time, the antagonists which consist of Dutch Van Der Linde, Javier Esculla, and Bill Williamson are great villains for what they had. The story has a great pace and never feels like it wastes time (I'm talking about main story missions, not the side missions). Yet despite all of that i really do think this game needs a remaster.

The reason I say that is this game is just so outdated. I fully understand considering this game came out in 2010 which doesn't seem long, but in the video game world that is a lot of time for development to change rapidly. Who knows maybe i'm just so used to the mechanics and graphics of Red Dead Redemption 2. I mean compared to everything in 2010 this is definitely the most impressive of that year. Realistically speaking I don't think we will get a remaster of Red Dead Redemption considering how much time and money Rockstar likes to put in to their online gamemodes. But hey, It's a nice thought.

The Best Performance of the Century!
1 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Okay this might be very controversial but hear me out alright? Everything else in the movie besides this one mesmerizing performance is more of a 6/10. There's really not much else to say about it, it's just a perfectly average kid's film that does it's job at distracting you for an hour and a half. But you may be saying "BuT yOu gAvE tHe MoViE a 10 oUt Of 10!!!" I know I must be coming off as contradictory, but the thing that makes this such a memorable piece of film is all thanks to one performance, a performance that still sticks with me even after 11 years of life. I am of course talking about arguably the best antagonist ever put to cinema, "The Verminator".

The Verminator is easily the most brilliantly written character I've ever witnessed with my raw naked caveman eyes. There are many reasons as to why he is. First off, let's analyze the way he is first introduced to us (the audience). His character is called on to another mission and arrives in a white heavily armored convoy. Almost as if it were to portray the Verminator as a Grim Reaper like figure arriving on his black steed. The camera switches to his hefty boots slamming against the pavement as we then get a nice back shot which is still concealing his face which makes the reveal all the more rewarding and atmospheric. The camera then pans up to his face, and it is even more horrifying then anything you've could've imagined in the deepest darkest part of your psyche. He then makes himself known, carrying all the confidence in the world on his shoulders as he says "The Solution, is standing before you." As he identifies the possum character he slides on his massive latex gloves. The fear being portrayed in Ozzie (the possum character) is an exact portrayal as how the audience feels as he enters the scene. Ozzie later runs away out of pure terror but this does not cause the Verminator to doubt himself as this is just another game to him that he will surely win as he as done multiple times in the past. It is made very clear that the Verminator is not only an immediate threat to the central characters, but as an ancient elemental force that can be fought off sure but can never truly be stopped.

Not only is the Verminator a brutal and ruthless antagonist to our characters, but he is also intentionally made as a complex character as well. It's easy to see why you would call the Verminator a Villain. We are supposed to be rooting for these little animals after all. But in the eyes of the grand scheme of things, is he really a "bad guy"? The filmmakers I believe left it open for interpretation. I for one believe he is not a "bad guy" in the traditional sense as he just an entity performing a task that he knows best. You could easily turn the argument on it's head and say the animals are the real antagonists of the story as they do nothing but infest and steal from the humans. Which would mean the Verminator is an advocate for Justice or even a force of Balance. He is simply restoring order to a corrupt and unbalanced system.

So all in all, the Verminator is not one of the best characters ever brought to life (that would be an understatement), He is simply THE best character ever brought to life. Which just thinking about it is kind of sad that his only appearance was in a mediocre kids movie. Which is why I believe it is in Dreamworks best interest to make a R rated solo Verminator film and have it be an in-depth character study of the Verminator in his younger years who slowly discovers his passion as an exterminator and creates a secondary identity for himself until it becomes his primary identity. I understand that many of you don't want his character potentially ruined by corporate thugs but trust me, sometimes lighting does strike twice. They did it once they can surely do it again. Please Dreamworks, don't limit your ultimate creation to a forgettable unsuccessful film, he deserves more.....

This is as Generic as it gets
27 November 2019
Me and 3 other friends went to go see this at a dollar theater as a joke knowing it would be bad. But to my dismay it was actually not as bad as i expected it to be. There was actually a few things to appreciate (as minimal as they were). For one the voice acting ranged from decent to really good. I really enjoyed John Cleese's performance as the main antagonist. It's like he knew how ridiculous his role as a mechanical walrus was so he chose to have as much fun with it as he could, and it really does show and it was his performance alone that saved this movie from being completely awful. But unfortunately that's the only real redeeming quality this movie has. The rest is utter garbage. I guess where i'm getting at is i didn't hate this movie in it's entirety surprisingly. It's just so laughably generic. You could make the argument that this movie was intended for children and not four 17 year olds, but even then i think the movie failed at that cause we never heard one chuckle from the audience and a 3rd of the families there walked out of it. At least me and my pals got something out of it.

Pet Sematary (2019)
6/10
Nothing Special, but nothing Awful
20 July 2019
Pet Sematary is one of Stephen King's best works and is easily one of my personal favorite novels I've ever read. Despite it's flaws i still enjoyed the first Pet Sematary from the 80's. Due to the Stephen King adaptions being really good lately, i was really looking forward to this movie. While i'm a bit disappointed, i still thought it was an enjoyable movie and is not nearly as bad as Critics are making it out to be.

There's a handful of things Pet Sematary gets right, and one of those is the cinematography. The locations look eerie and it works very well. The acting is solid however some actors deliver better then others. For example, the characters Jud and Rachael are standouts and they do the best job out of everyone in the movie if you ask me. While the father/husband Louis just doesn't have a lot of personality to him and for a majority of the movie he feels stiff in terms of emotion. My major complaint with this movie however is by far the pacing. I can't help but feel that the movie was rushed and it was bouncing from one plot point to another. If we are talking scares the movie has plenty of them and only 2 or 3 felt clever and unique.

So all in all, i was disappointed with how Pet Sematary turned out. They turned one of the best stories literature had and turned it into a decent cliche-filled horror movie. With that being said i never once hated anything that was presented on the screen. It just feels like a modern day horror film and not a Stephen King story, and it deserved better then that.

Went in hopeful, left satisfied
16 June 2019
Godzilla: King of the Monsters is probably this year's best popcorn movie. If you went in expecting a series of hardcore monster mashes, then you will have a lot of fun with it. If you are a die hard Godzilla fan like me however, you will get so much more enjoyment out of it. Critics have bashed this movie for not having character development in it, yet they forgot the main characters of the movie are the Monsters. If you have watched literally any Godzilla film you would know that the human protagonists/antagonists were never the spotlight of it. Walking into a Godzilla movie expecting human character development is like walking into a drama and expecting a comedy with well written jokes. It makes no sense. I guess i just wished some critics knew what they were going into before nitpicking things that have no need to exist in a film like this.

The movie ain't perfect however. The reason i called this movie a "popcorn movie" is because while it is extremely enjoyable (especially if you're a Godzilla fan), it's not really all that special and there's not a whole lot of new things you haven't seen before. The plot is incredibly predictable and the movie played it safe for the most part. But the film didn't need to be masterful or anything, sometimes being simple is the way to go.

So overall, i enjoyed King of the Monsters a lot and i personally think it's one of the better films to come out this year so far. I'll gladly buy the blu ray and watch it again and again with a big bowl of buttery popcorn and a drink by my side.

Taxi Driver (1976)
10/10
There's a Travis Bickle in all of us
9 April 2019
Taxi Driver is a rare example of how to tell a story through the eyes of the protagonist/antagonist. There's many ways to interpret this film and what it all meant depending on who you are. Some have viewed the character Travis as a psychotic gunman to a misunderstood hero. The film itself is excellent and easily makes it into my top 3, and the reason why is not just the acting, cinematography, style, or the well developed characters. This film did more then that, it stuck with me on a personal level. Never once in a movie have i ever related to someone like Travis Bickle. And i think i relate to him so much because he is just like you or me. I'm pretty sure we've all been at a point where our anger and rage reaches to a boiling point and we wish to act upon it, but our morals and better judgement usually stop us. We want acceptance from our peers and society in general, but when we don't achieve that we are then angry at the world. These feelings are perfectly represented with Travis Bickle. No person is safe from insanity. If pushed far enough you could one day become Travis. Whether or not you think Travis is a Hero or Villain, the Ending was a dream or reality, i think a majority of us can agree that Travis Bickle is a complex and well written character and everyone who worked on this film went above and beyond to bring us a film that forever engraved itself into movie history.

The Grinch (2018)
4/10
One word, Soulless
25 February 2019
The Grinch (2018) is probably one of the most hollow films to come out last year. The characters are flat and boring, literally nothing important to the story happens until the very end (meanwhile you're just watching a bunch of meaningless nonsense being thrown at the screen), all the humor is forced and only 2 jokes actually landed, not even Benedict Cumberbatch's voice acting as the Grinch brings any charm to the movie.

So in conclusion, The Grinch is a below average movie. It doesn't add anything new to the table, while it doesn't do any justice for the source material either. If you're going to remake something you have to justify why you're remaking it. What are you going to do differently? Why is this film special? What will people remember about this movie? This movie doesn't justify it's existence at all (besides money). If you don't do anything different then why even bother? As much as i hate to say it i enjoyed Jim Carry's take on the Grinch more then this.

I guess one perk this movie has is entertaining kids and that's fine, i have nothing against that. But this Grinch should appeal to the new generation and i just feel like they deserve better then this cash grab garbage.

Red Dead Redemption II (2018 Video Game)
9/10
A Nearly Perfect Game
10 February 2019
Red Dead Redemption was an excellent game and still my 4th all time favorite game. The story and characters they created in that big open world were outstanding and i never thought that any other R* game could achieve this, until Red Dead Redemption 2 came along and gave me everything i wanted and more.

Story: 10

Red Dead Redemption 2 serves as a prequel to the first game and it succeeds in introducing new characters and bringing back old ones from the previous installment. If you complete RDR2 and play RDR after, you begin to see an over-arching story, which makes the first game all the more of an emotional experience. You play as a newcomer Arthur Morgan. At first i was disappointed to hear this since John Marston was such a great Protagonist, but after completing the first 2 chapters, the game sold me on this guy. On the surface he looks like an ordinary money hungry outlaw but through countless interactions Arthur has his family and friends always in his best intentions, he puts them first before anything else. (i know you can choose whether Arthur is a good or a bad guy, but it feels appropriate to the story that he acts as a good guy). All of the Villains are great (there is one that you will absolutely hate but even he is a good Antagonist with some depth) and there's one main character that slowly descends into madness and it's heartbreaking to watch the slow progression of it all. The missions are a whole lot of fun even though they do get repetitive. As far as i'm concerned just give me a pistol, a trusty steed, and some goons to kill and i'll be satisfied. In terms of story, Red Dead Redemption 2 surpasses the first in my opinion. I will say this though once you complete the main story (6 chapters) and play the epilogue, the epilogue just doesn't hold up to the rest of the game. I mean it's still good for an epilogue but from time to time it would drag.

Game mechanics: 8.5

Okay folks get ready for the nitpicks i have to offer. The main thing this game is recognized for is it's immersion and use of realism. And that's great and all but it gets to the point where it's annoyingly realistic. Your horse has a stamina meter, it takes 6-7 seconds to fully loot one person, when you kill an animal you have to cook every slab of meat separately which takes a while, if you wear warm clothes in a hot setting your health meter will drain/ if you wear cool (temperature cool) clothes in a cold setting your health meter will drain, if you don't hide a body you will get a witness and they will rat you out to the law if not dealt with, your horse will throw you off of it's back and book it if a predator gets too close, and if you antagonize a person they will always pull out their gun and shoot you (not realistic most of the time but still annoying). As for mechanics i've never been a huge fan of R*'s mechanics. I just hate how you have to repeatedly spam X/A in order for your character or mode of transportation to go faster. Also the cover system is broke. I'll go as far as to say Red Dead Redemption 1 had a better cover system then this. Sometimes if you press R1/RB it doesn't make you duck, instead it'll slowly make your character walk in a desired cover spot and then will make you actually get behind it. Okay, okay, phew, i'm done with all the negatives i promise. But in the end the mechanics to this game are good especially the guns. The world is huge and you will spend hours upon hours to explore all of it. Even though the realism pissed me off sometimes, i still respect that the developers would pay that much attention to detail and be willing to add it all in the game.

So all in all, Red Dead Redemption 2 is my second favorite game this year and made it to my top 3 all time favorite games (like i said, i think RDR2's story surpasses RDR's story). The characters, plot, soundtrack (the track "You're My Brother" is one of the best tracks I've listened to in a game), and the massive world are so great. The game in of itself is an achievement among video games.

South Park (1997– )

The Death of South Park?
16 December 2018
Now listen, i'm giving this show a 9 because the previous seasons before season 19 were excellent. They really influenced many other hilarious shows, and part of the fun of my childhood was tuning in to South Park when my parents were gone, only to be caught watching it. But the thing that keeps me from giving this show a perfect 10 is because i think the show has changed for the worst.

So like i said first 18 seasons of South Park we're excellent, even the bad episodes in there still had great memorable moments. I tuned in to Season 19 and i noticed they wanted to do a story season were everything is connected. But that season provided little laughs and the finale was disappointing. I had high hopes for Season 20 because i thought Trey and Matt (the show's creators) had listened to the feedback on Season 19, but Season 20 was even worse then the last one. Many characters went through unnecessary changes, they put so much political topics into the show to the point where it felt like overkill, they managed to make Gerald (Kyle's dad) the most unlikable character in the show, many things that the show sets up are quickly forgotten, and the ending was bad (not disappointing like season 19, but just bad). Season 21 was an improvement from Season 20 but the show was still missing something. And i think i know what killed South Park.

It's no secret that South Park has many political and social commentary tones, but that was never the main point of the show, that was just a good addition to it. But it's like Matt and Trey forgot that, and they made the social commentary the MAIN point of the show.

The sad thing about it is Trey and Matt really want to go back to the roots of South Park, but they forgot how to. They got so carried away with Politics that they forgot that the heart of the show was 4 foul mouthed kids in a small mountain town that find themselves in the dumbest of situations. They completely ditched that part of the show and i eagerly want it back.

Big Mouth (2017–2025)
5/10
What do people see in this Show?
6 December 2018
Big Mouth tells the story of a group of teens who deal with their hormonal changes as it gets in the way of everyday life. I recently finished Season 2 and the show was okay at best, for me anyways. But one day i was browsing through Rotten Tomatoes and was really bewildered to see the show had a 100% rating.

As for Pros i guess some of the characters were fine. I liked the two main characters. I also liked the intro for the show, it was the only creative idea that worked.

As for Cons, basically everything else. Every critic on the planet is praising this show for how "funny" it is, when in reality this show's definition of humor is "HAHAHA sex joke, HAHAHAHA that boy banged a pillow and got a pillow humanoid child, HAHAHAHA, so funny, this girl is overly obnoxious and annoying HAHAHAHA, are you not entertained!?" And people are defending this show with Nostalgia. Most make claims like "The show is portraying us when we we're that young and gross, the show is great because you can relate to it and what the characters go through." Okay sure, but do you know how many Movies and other TV shows have handled this topic better? I mean great movies such as Superbad, Stand By Me, Edge of Seventeen, and the Show South Park have all had themes of puberty. But what separates these from Big Mouth is Puberty is so much more then sex jokes and periods. There's actual emotions, identity problems, anxiety, authority struggles, etc. Big Mouth's problem is it's missing the raw emotion and drama that comes with puberty. It doesn't attempt to balance drama with comedy, no it's a comedy first and with little elements of drama sprinkled throughout. Even when the show brings drama to the table it's treated in such a lazy manner. The Drama doesn't impact the characters and they learn nothing from it. This show is just a big Husk.

So all in all Big Mouth is an instantly disposable show that while it's not all horrible, it's not all good either. The show brings many excellent ideas like the hormone monster but they end up being bland and flavorless. Big Mouth could've been up there with South Park if it really wanted to, but little effort seemed present in this show. 5/10

The Predator (2018)
Tired of using your brain? No worries, come see The Predator
18 September 2018
Ever since i saw The Predator trailer, i wasn't sure of what to think (mostly because the trailer couldn't decide what tone this movie was going for). So i went in with low expectations and as a long time fan of the Franchise, i was joyfully impressed.

The Predator is a movie where you can simply turn your brain off and enjoy a bunch of nonsense being thrown at the screen. Does one ounce of if make sense? No. Is the plot original and well thought out? No. But i think that was the point.

In terms of quality, i would say the movie could do better. While the gore and action is badass, it really is choppy and can be headache inducing. The humor for the most part was fine, i mean the main cast kinda fits the picture, but because of so much humor i couldn't really tell when the movie was attempting to be serious.

This movie is one of those films where i agree with both sides of how they thought the movie was. If someone were to say they hated it because they turned it into a comedy, i would semi agree. If you said you liked it because it did something new with the Franchise, i would agree. If you thought it was out of character for the (main) Predator to be like he was, i would agree.

So all in all, The Predator should NOT be taken seriously at all. It's messy and could be better for sure, but like everyone in the movie; i had fun with it. It's kinda nice to get away from the Oscar-bait movies. Also grab some friends, it is a blast with a group of buddies. 7/10

My Personal Favorite Movie by The Coen Brothers
30 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I heard about this movie when it was being advertised in 2007. I really wanted to see it but as i always do, i kinda put it off and i slowly forgot this film even existed. But recently i watched some of the other Coen Brother films such as The Big Lebowski (great movie), and Fargo (pretty good but not the best they've made), and i guess that alone sparked my interest to see this movie, and to this day i still hate myself for not seeing it when it came out.

No Country for Old Men is a "Neo-Western" film (meaning it takes place in a western setting, but differs from the usual western movie) that takes place in the early 80's. It all starts when a Hunter (played by Josh Brolin) stumbles across a drug deal gone wrong and takes 2 million dollars from which he recovered from the site. Soon after, a ruthless hitman is hired to retrieve the stolen money and kill the man who took it.

First of all, i gotta hand it to the Coen Brothers. They made such a spectacular looking movie with astounding visuals and camera work. Another thing that makes this movie special is that the soundtrack, is barely present. There's only one time in the entire movie where you can slightly hear it, and it's done in such a good way, almost as if it were creeping up on you. Goes to show you don't need music to build suspense nor do you need it during a thrilling action sequence. The performances were pretty amazing. Josh Brolin has a lot of time to show off his acting skills, Javier Bardem is absolutely terrific and he really carried this movie, and Tommy Lee Jones was a great supporting character and it was cool to hear his character's point of view on life.

While the action and acting is great, there's something deeper to this movie that i love even more. There are countless of questions the film puts out, but there are few answers. I believe this was a creative choice by the Coen Brothers whether it would be the philosophy of not everything as an explanation, or they wanted the audience to make their own portrait of it. The film also has a theme of justice and how it's not all that it seems. The main character of the film is killed off screen by the Mexican Mob without the classic showdown in a typical western. The Sheriff (played by Tommy Lee Jones) later visits the Murder site of Llewelyn Moss while Anton Chigurh is waiting for him. But he shows up and leaves, leaving the audience with no payoff or justice as to what happens to the main antagonist. The end of the film shows that Anton Chigurh kills Moss's woman, and soon after he is hit by a car and nearly killed. I find that pure poetry, Chigurh views himself as an unstoppable force of Fate. And fate has been given to him. He is injured, weak, and vulnerable. Chigurh and the Sheriff are now Old Men as the title claims, and there is No Country for Old Men.

This is easily my favorite film by the Coen Brothers and one of my all time favorites. 10/10 would watch again, and again, and again.

Black Panther (2018)
5/10
Eh
8 May 2018
Ever since i saw Captain America: Civil War, i was instantly invested in the character Black Panther. Immedietly after the movie i went home and looked into everything about this character, his backstory, comic lore, etc. And i was so excited that he was getting his own solo movie. But i saw it, and i hate to say this but i was extremely disappointed.

Well this movie is not completely bad, first off all of the characters did an excellent job and when they have an emotional moment, you totally buy it. Even though i am probably the last person to say this, Killmonger is one of the best MCU Villains. I totally agree with what this guy is doing even though his methods of doing so were a little cruel. Also the music was very good. It gave the movie a sense of tone and even gave a little in depth view of other world cultures. Also the action sequences are pretty fun (for the most part). And sadly that's all i have for positives, i just wish i could've put more here.

My biggest complaint of this movie by far was the pacing. The first 30 minutes of the film were a huge drag. Then things start to pick up, then the entire movie feels rushed from there. Also the film's CGI was bad in parts. For example that entire battle sequince at the end looked like graphics you see in a PS2 game. I understand CGI can be a good tool when there are difficult things to add into a movie (I mean armored rhinos isent something you can add in a movie perfectly), but i mean this movie's budget is way to high for the CGI to look like that. Other films old and new have done better with smaller budgets. Near the middle of the movie i told myself that "It's gonna be a slow burn, then the big pay off with make everything right!" But the movie does not give you the pay off you want.

So all in all, Black Panther was a pretty average Marvel Movie. I feel like this movie was rushed in the making. It felt like one of the Producers said "Oh wait we need Black Panther in Infinity War, but he has no movie! Okay we will make a movie about him in the span of 2 years and he will have been a fully developed character by then." I do believe this is one of Marvel's weakest films. However i wonder, would i have enjoyed it more if i didn't hype it up?
