Big Mouth tells the story of a group of teens who deal with their hormonal changes as it gets in the way of everyday life. I recently finished Season 2 and the show was okay at best, for me anyways. But one day i was browsing through Rotten Tomatoes and was really bewildered to see the show had a 100% rating.
As for Pros i guess some of the characters were fine. I liked the two main characters. I also liked the intro for the show, it was the only creative idea that worked.
As for Cons, basically everything else. Every critic on the planet is praising this show for how "funny" it is, when in reality this show's definition of humor is "HAHAHA sex joke, HAHAHAHA that boy banged a pillow and got a pillow humanoid child, HAHAHAHA, so funny, this girl is overly obnoxious and annoying HAHAHAHA, are you not entertained!?" And people are defending this show with Nostalgia. Most make claims like "The show is portraying us when we we're that young and gross, the show is great because you can relate to it and what the characters go through." Okay sure, but do you know how many Movies and other TV shows have handled this topic better? I mean great movies such as Superbad, Stand By Me, Edge of Seventeen, and the Show South Park have all had themes of puberty. But what separates these from Big Mouth is Puberty is so much more then sex jokes and periods. There's actual emotions, identity problems, anxiety, authority struggles, etc. Big Mouth's problem is it's missing the raw emotion and drama that comes with puberty. It doesn't attempt to balance drama with comedy, no it's a comedy first and with little elements of drama sprinkled throughout. Even when the show brings drama to the table it's treated in such a lazy manner. The Drama doesn't impact the characters and they learn nothing from it. This show is just a big Husk.
So all in all Big Mouth is an instantly disposable show that while it's not all horrible, it's not all good either. The show brings many excellent ideas like the hormone monster but they end up being bland and flavorless. Big Mouth could've been up there with South Park if it really wanted to, but little effort seemed present in this show. 5/10
