Dolly and Richard meet as planned at the Red Lion in Brassington. Richard explains he's given up the idea of getting their son back. Dolly responds to this by warning Richard not to mess around with her life anymore.
Sam is furious at the thought of Matt spending the night in a hotel room with Dolly. At the Red Lion, Matt announces his intention to go to bed, but Richard insists on a last drink.
Matt returns home from a night out with Dolly with some odd news. On their way through the village they passed the Woolpack. All the lights were on, and it was well past closing time.
Dolly's mother is arriving that evening but the problem is where can she stay? Dolly thinks is if she just tells her to go away. Matt says no to that and calls Joe to ask him if Dolly and her mother can borrow Demdyke Row for a bit.
Sam and Annie are in disagreement over Miss Venables. When Sam tells her not to be too hard on Miss Venables he is sharply informed that Emmerdale is not a hotel.
Wilks arrives at the farm with a brand new caravan for Miss Venables and its not long before everybody is in agreement over what should happen. Miss Venables should leave, and as soon as possible.
Beckindale is invaded by a group of gypsies who have moved onto the village green, much to the anger of the villagers. Outside the village, where Joe is ploughing, a girl called Glenda perches in a tree taking photographs.
A crowd has gathered in the street, surrounding Jed the gypsy. The crowd leaders are Pike and Mrs Bullock. Joe arrives, demanding to know what's going on. It appears that Jed has a dead fox on the back of his truck. ITV.
At Demdyke Row, Joe is in the middle of burning his fingers on the cooker when Glenda arrives for her meal. But she immediately pours cold water on his plans by telling him that her manager Grant Edwards is coming to pick her up at eleven.
Mrs Acaster calls at the vicarage to speak to Hinton. She wants to ask Hinton to look after Dolly's interests as far as the marriage goes. Hinton agrees and then settles down for a long chat with Mrs Acaster, much to his chagrin. ITV.
Annie, Matt, Dolly and Mrs Acaster discuss the plans for the wedding. Mrs Acaster wants to have the wedding in Darlington but is talked into having it in Beckindale, on one condition; she must be allowed to decide on Dolly's wedding dress.
Hinton, having driven out of the village on his rounds, has broken down. But along come Tyler and Mrs Bulstrode who offer him a lift back to the village. ITV.
Amos is informed by Wilks that Glenda has discovered certain facts about Edwards. Apparently he is a bit of a con-man who has masqueraded for years as someone who knows a thing or two about intensive farming. ITV.
Ruth makes waves at Emmerdale Farm when she by Joe, supervising a bulldozer bashing down the corpse. He remonstrates with her but she tells him she needs the land. ITV.
A young man wakes up. He climbs out of his car, looks around, then gets back in again and prepares to drive off. Later on in the day the young man turns up at the vicarage, ITV.
At the vicarage Hinton asks Clive how he intends to spend his time in Beckindale. Clive says that he gold idea has bitten the dust but that he is interested in the possibility of finding flour-spar. ITV.
Clive entertains Ruth and Ian over a few drinks at the vicarage. He talks expansively about his plans for the mine. Ian is still against the scheme, especially now its looking more complicated. ITV.
It is the aftermath of the accident and both Clive and Rod have both been found unconscious and taken to hospital. Ian has gone as well but is later discharged with cuts and bruises. This is small consolation for Ian.ITV.
In the vicarage, Annie and Hinton discuss Clive's disappearance. Hinton feels that he's failed with his son, but Annie thinks that he's done all he can. ITV.
Matt is worried about one of the cows that seems poorly. Joe reassures him but Matt feels they should have asked the vet's advice. Annie appears and there is more chat. ITV.
The condition of the sick cow begins to deteriorate. Matt enters with the news that it has had a spontaneous abortion and that is one of the symptoms of brucellosis. ITV.
Joe and Matt come in for their morning coffee, to be told that Dolly has had to go to Hotten for Sam's cakes. There's a phone call. It's bad news.The Milk Board have discovered brucellosis positive in the monthly milk screening. ITV
Matt tells Dolly that he must know what's the matter. Dolly replies that she wonders if she'll be satisfied with the life of a farmer's wife for the rest of her days. Doesn't he want to do anything with his life, she asks? ITV.
Sam is no longer romantically inclined to Mrs Ratcliffe and when Annie starts getting inquisitive about when he's next seeing Mrs Ratcliffe, Sam gets shirty, saying he's more important things to think of. ITV.
A phone call at the farm confirms that the tests have proved that there is no disease in the herd which is the cue for a celebration. Mrs Ratcliffe visits Sam at the farm and they go to his shed for a private conversation. ITV.
Sam quizzes Joe about Pip but Joe denies it. After all, Pip is going out with Steve. Meanwhile, the Steve that Joe is talking about is spying on the Coulter house where through a window he sees some religious service being conducted. ITV.
Wilks tells Annie about his quarrel with Hinton yesterday and insists that the vicar is wrong not to do something about Paul. Toleration can be taken too far. ITV.
Sam tells Annie that Will told him that Pip wants to marry Steve. Annie decides to tell Hinton and Sam suggests that Pip and Steve might have eloped. ITV.
Steve shows the shot gun he's stolen from Joe's cottage to Pip, who's been waiting for him. It frightens her and she is afraid of what they are about to do. ITV.
Hinton is woken in the vicarage by loud, violent banging on his front door. It is Mr and Mrs Coulter who have come to find their daughter and think that Hinton is responsible for their daughter's disappearance. ITV.
PC Edwards informs Annie that her car has been found in Manchester, still no sign of Steve and Pip. Hinton is in discussion with Paul Pargrave when he receives a phone call from Annie who wants him to go and see the Coulter family. ITV.
Dolly receives a letter from her mother that clearly holds the worst of news. Mrs Acaster is still going on about the dress and demanding taffets. And now she's also got a bee in her bonnet about the reception. ITV.
Jessie insists that she can't break her promise to Mrs Acaster to see the wedding is planned right and this includes getting Dolly baptised, which must be done if the wedding is to take place. ITV.
Mystery continues to surround the skull, but Hinton is determined to find out if it is the Hannah Eliazbeth that everyone is mentioning so he delves into the parish records. ITV.
The police are outside the Hawkers house which sets them thinking about the fate of Pip and Steve. It emerges that they have been arrested in Liverpool so Amos looks forward in anticipation to his role of chief witness in the trial. ITV.
Hannah Elizabeth was married to a Pearson, Moeketsi continues to investigate her ancestry with the help of Seth who asks him not to tell Sam of their discovery until they are sure it's genuine. ITV.
Sam walks through the graveyard, soulful as he thinks of his long dead ancestor. Moeketsi meets him and attempts consolation but all Sam can do is apologise for his suspicions about Moeketsi's reading lessons with Seth. ITV.
Dolly receives a letter from her mother saying that she can't be bothered with the wedding. Dolly is clearly upset because she wanted her mother to be involved rather than all the responsibility being given to Annie. ITV.
Annie Matt and Dolly are making wedding plans. Joe is to be the best man. The phone rings. It is a long lost cousin of Matt's. Polly Ferris was at the orphanage with Matt before she went to Tasmania with their Uncle Ned. ITV.
Amos is collecting the mail from the front door, complaining that he always starts at sudden noises since the robbery. Wilks suggests he visits the doctor, which stirs Amos to feel that he's being got at. ITV.
Matt and Dolly discuss the wedding arrangements. There is still no word from Dolly's mother so Dolly says that she has decided to forget about her altogether. ITV.
Pip Coulter arrives at the bus stop in Beckindale, and is surprised to find Annie waiting for her. They go immediately to the Police Station. Dolly is still dazed by the prospect of her new stepfather. ITV.
Sam phones from Hotten with the shock news that Steve and Pip have been married, Steve having been let out of prison to do so. This has all been Alec's doing and they are all extremely grateful. ITV.
The day of the Verney Sale arrives and Amos has a shrewd idea of what Francesca's bidding for. Matt and Dolly have their eye on something else at the Verney's - a place of their own. ITV.
At Emmerdale the dispute over the Top 20 Meadow seems to be going against the Sugdens. Francesca hasn't returned to the Woolpack and Amos suspects the worst. ITV.
