Cancer Attack
ahmedmedht10 February 2023
Wiley is a piece of Al's self that has been buried beneath his Paperboi persona, thus a ghost.

Wiley's appearance is exactly how Al sees that part of himself. Al is insecure which is the real reason why hes so worried about his phone. Al's real art is on that phone... "is there something special about this phone?.". Wiley starts off saying things like "we all have to die sometime.

Maybe my end should come at the hands of Paperboj" (Wiley/Al vs Paperboi). When Wiley says "were you told as a child you talk white.. must have made you feel separate. Its interesting when people aren't allowed in the universal group" he is throwing shade at Earn and Paperboi while also hinting at his metaphysical nature. He's saying that Paperboi is hiding the real Al.. so that part of him does not exist in this universe. Earn looked past Al during his search for community and friendship and now money. Earlier in the episode Al tries to start a conversation with Earn but Earn is too busy to talk unless Paperboi has a question about ginger beer. So everything Wiley been saying has struck multiple chords in Paperboi.

When Wiley looks PB in the eyes and says "I don't think you'll get what you want that way" he finally understands and tells himself (Wiley) a secret about his creative block. Al "was never really into rapping". Everything is then confirmed with the birthdays and Wiley/Al lyrics which is why PB is in shock and lets Wiley leave "you were my mirror my best friend we used to be one and the same. I swear i saw the other side i never wanted less because i don't want more of vou". I think it means he threwaway the real part of himself that he doesnt like and now that part of him is "on the other side" Veg. The idea of twin flame/soul fits as a replacement for this "self theory" too but based on this season I think Wiley is the ghost of Al's self.

I Think I Understand it

Warning: Spoilers
This episode seems to be about Paper Boi and wanting to recapture his lost love of the art of rapping.

What we see is a person that represents that personification right in front of his eyes (who he thinks stole his phone). It's the final song that he plays to Paper Boi that seems to be a haunting reflection of paper bois love and therefore loss of the music he plays. Darius had brought up that the venue they played at is haunted, so this seems to be a literal and metaphorical ghost (Wiley) of paper boi that speaks to the group.

The only thing I don't understand is why the group would continue to let Sox continue with them after his demeanor last episode, however I have a sneaking suspicion that he has a lot more of a part to play in this seasons wild ride of symbolism.

Made me so mad

This episode is really good. It had even deeper look into paperboi as a person. I know Atlanta makes rollercoaster episodes like the barber shop, but this was infuriating.

One of the most beautiful episodes of television I've seen
Peanutman202015 April 2022
This episode is a bit slower paced but the way it unravels is both unexpected and beautiful. This episode was pure character development and changes how the future of Atlanta will play out.

tobyezulike15 April 2022
Everything landed with this one the jokes, the tone, the characters specifically Sox and miley or whatever his name is I also loved how they dug deeper into the character of Alfred with the interrogation scene it really had me glued to the screen since we've never seen him be that open before. Also that ending had me fuming lol.

Great episode

This is the type of episode I expected from Season 3. Funny, deep, emotional, and I look into Al we haven't seen yet. Had me on my toes throughout, and took me by surprise at the end. Lots of development to build off with Van, Socks, and Al. Good bounce back from last episode.

What a bounce back from the last one!

Finally!! This is what I needed. Especially after 3rd episode. The real evolution and beautiful transformation of Atlanta. This episode needs multiple viewings, it was like a surreal poetic journey, a work of art, about facet of reflections with a hint of existentialism. The deep look into the psyche of paperboi, best character development. Man, I friggin love this episode. One of my favourites. :')

Interesting

Warning: Spoilers
Surreal in parts. Like a Beckett play with Paper Boi stuck in Limbo trying to track down his phone. I liked the random acoustic guitar performance and how it spoke to Al. A reminder of why music might be important to him and why not to be just phoning it in. Might be worth a rewatch.

Overall a strong and varied season so far.

The loudest in the room..ending was upsetting to see how casually he got away with it and to know he gained absolutely nothing from it since it was simply thrown away but then you realize these guys all know the script and just appreciate good television.

To be honest what happened to the show it's just boring now I'm hoping it gets better in the next few episodes. I mean the first two episodes were good then the rest of them just not my cup of tea, Last two seasons were more interesting in so many ways.

By far my least favorite episode of the series
alecramsey-6248330 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
For one, it was immediately clear to me that Socks took the phone, given how hard he was trying to seem upset when he has no reason to be. I also find his inclusion insufferable to the point where I don't really understand the point of him being in the show at all, or why he ended up touring with them in the first place. At least with a character like Tracy, there's history between him and Al, but Socks' presence takes away much more than it adds.

I also have many questions about Wiley. How did he know the personal information in Al's lyrics, if he didn't steal the phone? How did he know his phone number? Just seems like the writers tried too hard to lead us into thinking Wiley stole it. Many other reviews are bringing up the possibility that he's some kind of ghost, but then why would he trick them into thinking he has the phone? I think a more likely explanation would be that he was conspiring with Socks, but the show leaves it pretty open ended in a way that makes for a really unsatisfying ending. This show likes to ask a lot of questions, and not provide a single answer. In most cases, it works very well, but this just felt like a narrative mess.

Postal Mixtape

Warning: Spoilers
1. Alfred performs 2. Al loses his phone 3. Socks throws away his phone

This episode was a fun one for sure. It felt very cracked in many ways but it didn't have the sense of surrealism. It felt more like absurd comedy. I guess you could say it's more of a filler episode but I found it cool that Earn has now totally settled into his manager role. This is a huge step up from how fumbled he was in season 1 and 2. I think it's definitely a big jump in terms of character development but I don't feel like it bothers me that much. It's just hard to process how different of circumstances these characters are in compared to the earlier seasons.

The performance of Wiley (Samuel Blenkin) was strange but worthy of taking the role. The song he sang was surprisingly good. It almost felt like a twisted fan interaction. It was actually quite touching to see Alfred express himself in a deeper than usual way. Not sure what the purpose of the cancer patient was but it was funny. Socks being the culprit for the phone is an interesting aspect. I don't think anybody particularly likes that character - he incited an unnecessary attack on MK from two episodes ago. It also seems like he's basically psychopathic as he must have set this up to see the conflict escalate. In fact, it might have been him that brought up the idea of Wiley.

I don't know how this character will add more to the series but we will see.

The best episode so far

Warning: Spoilers
I love the suspense in this episode. Although I knew Socks did have stolen the phone, I just felt it, it was still an utterly unpredictable story to watch. And I absolutely loved Willey's song. I want to see more episodes like this.

What was this episode?
woleomojokun17 April 2022
I feel like I don't understand the show anymore with this season, and this episode left me more dumbfounded than ever.

What was actually the point of this episode? All of that, and for what? I may have just watched my last Atlanta episode.

Painful to watch
gaishot24 May 2022
Halfway through this episode I was checking the clock every 5 minutes, hoping it would end soon. Not entertaining in any way, stupid, pointless ending, really just a big waste of time.
