Now THIS is what the series is capable of! What a stunning episode!
sam_l_kay21 December 2019
The story we see Geralt follow in this episode is a brilliant tale in the book series and honestly it's just how I imagined it on the page, this is the world of the Witcher at its best and the best episode in the series so far!

Yennifer's new storyline is coming into its own and the climax of this episode is absolutely superb. Everything about this episode oozes the lore and intrigue of the franchise and I'm so happy we got to see one of the great stories of the books be recreated in beautiful detail on the screen.

The best one yet
nazirkulovb20 December 2019
The best episode yet, every storyline worked well and I really like how they try and do good at focusing on one theme, but at the same time using diffrent timelines and characters, so you can grasp just how rich and big the world of The Witcher is.

Note to every book reader - it is an ADAPTATION. You can see that the writers love the source material and just drop a lot of lines, pieces of information that came much, much later in the saga. Writers did their homework, that's for sure.

So all the changes worked out great and it was a good adapted shorty story, with other characters background's sprinkled on top, especially Yennefer's. My vote is 9, would be an 8 if not for the neck-biting part, glad they kept it.

Going good but uneven storytelling.
cruise0129 December 2019
4 out of 5 stars

Geralt takes a task to hunt down a monster to find out it was cursed. Which he tries to fight it and save it. Meanwhile, Yennefer is pushed aside from being a sorceress to a King which she wants to be with. But she will make a sacrifice to become beautiful.

The episode is good. I love the action fight scene with Geralt and a cursed princess. It was exciting. The script is lacking in character development and story development. It is uneven. Which besides Geralt. Yennefer. And Ciri. It makes other people forgettable with its direction. Still a good epic story that is still expanding.

I do like it! But...
pvsteijn21 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I desperately want to like this show and this episode in particular, as the Striga story is probably my favourite out of the first book. And I did, I enjoyed it. But..

I don't mind the writers changing things, I really don't. Here however, it takes away too much of what makes the story great. The intrigue and emotions that come into play with Foltest are completely cut, making Foltest a totally un-interesting character. That also causes a very important side of Geralt to get way less time on screen, making the viewer miss out on a lot of why we, as readers of the books, love him. I had the exact same complaint during the first episode and I really hope this doesn't become a theme.

I also have to say that the fight with the Striga was slightly disappointing too. It turned more into a shove and push battle than the almost dancing conflict and the epicness that is described in the book. I also really don't like that they skipped the, dare I say, famous preperation scene in this story. I'm starting to get a little scared that they've skipped the more 'up close and personal' side of Geralt and made him more of an action figure.

I like Yen's backstory, but if it comes at the cost of the valuable screen-time that is simply needed to portray these short stories in a manner that respects their depth, it feels like a bit of a waste. Seeing the, what is supposed to be epic fight against the Striga compilated with Yen's transformation did not do it justice, I have to say. It feels rushed and that's a shame.

I can't give it a low grade, as I'd be lying. I did enjoy myself, but I don't want what I've described here to become a theme. Cutting the what I consider to be very important 'slower' scenes and, at least in my eyes, rushing some of the stories that provide the foundation on which characters - Geralt in particular - are built, is an incredible waste.

Still enjoying it, but I'm starting to see some cracks. Let's hope, as I've said, it doesn't become a theme.

Favorite of the short stories
ghanima_atrieadies21 December 2019
Geralt and the strigga was my favorite in the Last Wish book. I'm glad to see how it was adapted and I loved it all. There were some deviations but overall...I love this episode and this show.

The show is getting better
k_g_barreto27 December 2019
This was an interesting episode. Introduced Triss, a character that I know even knowing very little about the lore of The Witcher universe, showed us that Yennefer's arc is before Geralts, so there are two different timelines in this series, I don't if this is the best decision but its' a interesting take. I liked the episode much because of the focus on Geralt, he is the protagonist but I din't feel him in the first two episodes. His fight against the Striga was good, I liked, and one of the best parts of this episode was his fight against the monster intercalated with Yennefer's transformation, and I'm starting to care about her, which is good, the character are getting more . The acting continues fine, the photography is great, the same with the previous episodes, the soundtrack is really good, and I could go on. I expect that the season keep the quality.

Thank you !
algasov_dd21 December 2019
Just only a small comment of appreciation for the team that worked for making this peace of brilliance come true. As a fan of Witcher books and games this series made me relive best moments / parts of the work initiated by Mr. Sapkowski and continued by amazing / talented developpers / film makers. Thanks to you all ! :)

Stennis. Triss Merigold. And the lovely Striga from Witcher 1's intro cinematic.

Possibly one of the first ever moments see of the Witcher for many, it was so great to see the filmmakers do this short side quest justice

It was more enjoyable than the previous episode, which is good.
LegendaryFang5620 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
More enjoyable and eventful than the previous episode, at least. I'm glad Geralt got focused on more with a little bit, but enough, of Yennefer, and very little of Ciri. I feel like Ciri's parts have been the least interesting to watch (but still necessary, I imagine), so I'm glad there isn't THAT much of her, yet.

According to a particular comment that I've read, each timeline starts becoming intertwined in or after the fourth episode. That should make things more enjoyable without requiring you to mentally wear yourself out trying to keep up with the "when" in a general sense of all three timelines combined while at the same time, trying to follow along with everything else, what's happening at the moment for the audience.

That being said, I do have a question. As far as the premiere up to this episode is concerned, Yennefer's storyline is in the past, Geralt's storyline is in the present, and Ciri's storyline is in the future, right? Or is Geralt's storyline in the present for us, the audience, but Ciri's storyline is/will be the present after each timeline is connected? That's two questions, oops.

When? Where? Why? What? Who?
kristi237422 December 2019
Apparently, it does not take much to confuse me, as these are the questions I have been asking for 3 episodes. This was the worst of the three. I really do not have any connection to the characters. I do not know who they are or what the heck is going on. There are more plot holes than SEE on Apple TV+. That is bad news for this show! I noticed the critics aren't giving this show a great reception either. I will stick it out to see if things get better, but even mentioning Game of Thrones in the same review is a travesty. By episode 3 of Game of Thrones, you fell in love with the characters and lands. I do not care about anything on The Witcher so far. All I care about is the show getting better!

Loving it
brodieford22 December 2019
After reading and playing the video games for so long I am loving this adaptation. I just wish they had found a Red Head for the part of Triss. This actress could end up to be awesome, but it's just not Triss without the hair.

I'm giving a 10 purely on action
joelferguson9818 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I've no idea what's going on in the story and plot. I can't be the only one that has no idea what the hell is going on in every scene?

The fight scene was epic. I'm watching it at midnight which is a big regret. Proper action and detail in the cinematography.

The timeline switching is more deft here...
richardderus24 December 2019
...or I've become accustomed to it. The beautiful Hogwarts-esque ballroom scene is nice, but the Witcher-vs-striga is the standout set-piece of this episode. I've heard much carping about the muddy storytelling; I think the structure lacks narrative thrust but it's a risk to spend a season setting up an epic. I think it could pay off if Netflix does more between-seasons sales and access media gladhanding. AND stops with the straight-boy fan service nekkid gurlz covered in slick stuff.

Two very enganging stories.
That chapter have an interesting Intrigue Story with a mistery that Geralt have to resolve and an engaging story that give an evolution to the character of Jenefeer.

Great stories but way too rushed
sadako1118 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The whole Yennefer and the magic school story felt extremely rushed.

Apparently she is the best of the best at magic or something but we barely saw her training or doing something special (unless you count as magic pushing a couple of snails into a river).

The magic school and it's hierarchy or structure was never properly explained.

Why Yenn boyfriend is always alone? Why is he there? Where is he? In the basement? In the same building? Is he from a different school? Who was that guy who talked to him? His boss, master?

Did Yenn really loved him or she was a selfish powerhungry b*itch since the beginning?

Another problem with the show as a whole is the lack of a clear time frame. How many days, week, months, years have gone by since the first episode? I have no idea.

Exciting
amindostiari23 January 2021
This episode was exciting enough and it followed a good storyline but it is very slow. I think everything we've seen so far is an introduction and the main story has not yet begun!

10% Geralt 90% gore and nudity
brkykmsz22 December 2019
Too much screen time for nudity, too unnecessary. This is comparable to Game of Thrones already, which the producers have previously claimed the otherwise.

Warning: Spoilers
I have struggled to get through the first 3 episodes, and overall I am highly unimpressed. I just think in general it's poor. A lot of unnecessary parts and too many deep things are happening too soon. Like I'm not attached enough to these characters to care about all the drama. Queens hubs died in the battle? Aw dang that's sad but idc. Quazzie got a make over? Man, look like that hurt but good for her. Still don't care though. And what is with that dance floor? It looks all shiny and futuristic and it's out of place and made me uncomfortable. My goodness I may not even make it through the show. How on earth does one actually see this as "good"? There is no depth in this show. It's a puddle. A freaking puddle. Sheeeeesssshhhhh just do better. And clearly I know I'm the minority here but I was so frustrated watching this I had to vent a little. To those who care- I'll give more feedback as I proceed.. if I do.

Really Big fan of Witcher books and games trilogy!
psyhocaki2 January 2020
As I said on my main review of this series so far (I was really enjoying first episode second too),but then BOOM. I didnt expect to be sick like this! I WAS Sweating how tense this episode was and how much creepiness level it was and how much excited I was. Fantasy In her best light! The adrenaline hit me a lot that I couldnt sit anymore on my chair when Geralt was fighting vs Striga monster, and in meanwhile Yennefer with... I just standed up and watched it while standing. I mean REALLY DAMN!!! Some scenes , It really reminds of old classic Christopher Lambert movie called "Beowulf" , but with lot more creepiness and tense moments then it was in that movie. I cant believe what I just watched , ufff, and I like they put Striga monster from Witcher 1. Its really good job from producers! Now I need to chill after this episode, uhh, then continue to episode 4.

aboalhyjaa22 December 2019
This show aint got. It has a different story and a different dialogue. But that doesn't mean its not as good as got. Its to soon to judge because theres only one season of it. But for its so far so good.
