Feeling About beautifully broken
marlonb-014062 September 2018
Having been to Rwanda and knowing a little history about the Hutu's , Tutsi's and the genocide, I felt a lot of this movie very deeply. The betrayal , sadness , hope ,abuse , brokenness and forgiveness in this movie was done so vividly that one would become , as I did, quite emotional while watching it. The movie depicted a lot of things too numerous to share in this brief post but the hope in humanity and the unlikely people that it came from was refreshing. In each of the families you see what really is important to them regardless of their circumstances . It is family . It doesn't matter if you're a refugee fleeing genocide or or wealthy man living in suburban Nashville. The most beautiful part of it all is the parallel between our brokenness as a result of sin and God's forgiveness to us through Jesus. I do believe you would thoroughly enjoy this. One of my favorite movies this year.

Be aware...
Doalan5 November 2018
We were duped into seeing this film with the offer of free tickets. Near the beginning of the film it talked about how it was a film about three fathers who take care of their families. Sounded awfully patriarchal, but we went along with it. The whole film feels like you're sitting through Sunday school. It's a Christian film that even seeks donations at the end to aid their missionary work in Africa in the name of Jesus. If you're looking for a Chrstian film, maybe you'll like it, but we weren't!

Making Money off of Tragedy
westsideschl31 December 2018
First, a really cheap production avoiding meaningful dialogue as indicated by no English subtitles. That, and actors with non-standard or 2nd language English enuciations. All made even worse by excessively loud background music meant to add drama. Especially challenging for viewers w/hearing issues. The backdrop is the Rwandan genocide w/about 500,000+ Tutsi & others killed & millions displaced by the majority Hutu. Unfortunately that tragedy was glossed over to the point of not really being shown, but what was shown was a veiled attempt to conditionally sell Christianity & Jesus' name to those in need of help. That is not kindness, that is selfishness to force people to choose between their cultural beliefs and that conditional help. Appropriately a donation request at the end.

This movie was so inspiring
vicpanderson25 August 2018
I saw the movie, "Beautifully Broken", this evening. It's an inspirational true story of 3 families that have endured tragedy and were in some way brought together and help each other to heal. I would highly recommend it. "God can use our Brokenness and make something beautiful out of that causing us to be instrumental in helping others."

Bad

Well if you are into Christian movies, where if you are one then everything is perfect this is the movie for you. But if your a Christian and believe Gods is in control but heaven is perfection not here, and this movie is not for you. Multiple story lines jumping from one to the other with no link. What everyone who voted 10, was smoking at the time of watching I do not know.

Terrible Acting and a Weak and Muddled Script
northernlad10 February 2019
I'm not here to review the message of the movie. You can take what you want of it. I'm here to review the messy script and the terrible acting. I can handle movies about Christianity for sure, some of them have great messages and some of them are delivered so nicely. This one not so much. I wish they had cut the script down just a bit and invested just a little to give the actors some lessons. The little girl did nothing but snarl through the entire movie and don't even get me going on the woman playing the mother. Yeesh!

too much God in this for me
watcher20199 June 2020
THe acting wasnt up to much. Myabe i am too old and cynical to believe in some ofthis story now. All that crying and 2 teenagers believing their pain was equal. Well no it wasnt. i suppose it is all relative. I felt some of the heavey stuff was trivulised. Yep her daddy went to prison cos he was in the militia, forced into the militia. Never met anyone yet from a war torn country who wasnt forced into something? Yep too old and cynical to believe in such things now.

A must see!
booj-2616825 August 2018
Please see this movie. I was deeply moved and pulled in to this true story. You will leave having been impacted. A definite must see for all teenagers but I think everyone will relate on some level. This is an independent film so no major 'names' but more movies like this need to be seen and promoted. The actor who played William was amazing and he just draws you in with his performance. This story is about real people and their experiences...and the courage it must have taken for them to be willing to share their story is so inspiring.

Beautifully done!
arringtoncarrie-6372026 August 2018
Amazing true story of three families layered so well. And though it was difficult to see some of the scenes because of their raw, heart wrenching content, it is life for many. Go see this movie. I maybe wouldn't take really small children but I would take my middle schoolers and up. Great conversations to be had after watching this. Just go! Support this film!

Don't write this off as just another movie about God
guppy2530 August 2018
You do not have to believe in God to see the beauty in this movie. I've read the reviews and several people will say it's cliche or too religious. All I saw was a wonderful independent film about how faith in God becomes faith in your ability to help others. If they took God out it would still be an absolutely strong story of how three families overcome pain and come together because of their commitment to be better people. When I look around my world today after seeing this movie I can find many places where I could help and wish everyone could experience this in hopes that we as a culture start thinking of others before ourselves.

Amazing- 3 stories in one
jcg102827 August 2018
An amazing movie and to think it's based on a real story. The music drew me in, and the story closed the deal. For a lower budget film amazingly well shot. We live in a bubble and don't know others paths while we pass judgement. All of us have a story and this movie shows how God can pull the strings of seemly chaotic events into pure beauty- Beautifully Broken.

Powerful film transcends time.
Tobam88-809-45047229 August 2018
The heart of this film in bold, proud and deeply thoughtful. Crossing cultures and spanning generations, it really brings the horrors of the Rwandan genocide and its repercussions to the beauty of being past it now. Required viewing especially for church goers.

Deeply moving and awe inspiring
hcarmich30 August 2018
Even a week later, our family is still talking about this powerful movie. The story is true and unbelievably fascinating. How one family in Nashville Tennessee intersected with two other families from Rwanda and how these happenstances changed the history of so many peoples' lives is extraordinary!

An incredibly special movie!
jonny-4127927 August 2018
This movie brought tears to my eyes and yet I walked away inspired and rejoicing! Hearing this is a TRUE STORY leaves you captivated from the start. I loved the way the film makers took us to dark places in such a personal and understanding manner. I've been to many Christian music concerts where the artists have used their influence with the audience as a bridge to helping address world needs both close to home and worlds away. This movie managed to perform this service in a visually impacting way that left you wanting to do your part in making the world a better place. Thoroughly engaging, I will watch this movie time and time again...

This is such an incredible film
jeniloga2 September 2018
I went to see this with 30 people, many of whom were interested in the Rwandan Genocide component. We had no idea what we were in for. This is a true story, which in and of itself is a mindblower, but the story telling, acting, cinematography, high end film production... CANNOT believe this is an independent film. The two main characters, Scott William Winters and Benjamin A. Onyango, gave Academy Award worthy performances. All 30 of us came out of the movie theater in tears and smiles. LOVED IT.

Thoughtfully told
dmaier-308143 September 2018
This movie is one of the best I have seen. So pleased with how they brought the horrors of war without extreme gore, the heart and kindness of people and their three stories together over decades. I highly recommend for anyone 13+

There is hope!
jerry-swisshelm7 September 2018
We all struggle with challenges, and some may seem overwhelming and unbearable. But there is hope! Here is a true story of how God used even the evil in this world for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28). I highly recommend this movie!

What an amazing true story of God's perfect plans for three families to touch each other's lives, and for them all to know that He can make something beautiful out of us, no matter what we've been through. Well done!
