How can Sonya make that assumption?
eunbi053019 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
My biggest concern surrounding this episode are two moments that are just terrible, for distinct reasons: Rhodes using footage of "Fury" killing Maria Hill two episodes in a row and the "man is bad" trope that has been recurrent in Marvel recently.

It is not hard to consider the first issue as bad writing, in the last episode we were already told by Rhodes that he had footage of "Fury" killing Maria Hill and in today's episode we see Rhodes using that same leverage again? Fury knows about that, so why did he act like Rhodes got nothing on him, so only we are shown the evidence again, for (at least) the third time? Or do they think the audience is ignorant?

As for the second issue, we have Sonya capturing two Skrulls, following one of them threatens to kill the scientist Skrull, then Sonya implies that the "male" Skrull is going to kill the "female" Skrull because that's what males do. This whole "man is bad" thing has been recurrent in Marvel's productions in these recent years, sometimes it seems like they go out of their way to write a scene like this. However, this very same series in the last episode is a huge criticism to this thing: how does Sonya know that Skrull is even a male? We know for a fact from the last episode that Rhodes, despite being a human male, is actually a female Skrull, so did Sonya just assume that Skrulls gender for how they look? Wow...

Boring for a penultimate episode
gabocol-3095519 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode had more action than usual, but the pacing was super slow. The bad writing on this show drives people away for it.

Giah and Priscilla should have had more to do in their action sequence it was just a minute and 30 seconds, and they didn't show how they escaped the house?

The only time I've seen Fury put into big action is the last episode at the end. Rhodey pushing out the video of Fury to the public was annoying, this was the the second time he used that against Fury.

The whole leverage thing is boring and not well written, Marvel is getting lazy. Per usual Marvel saves their budget for their final episode of the season which is rushed.

Feels like we've only scratched the surface
Mesina0215 August 2023
A very minuscule improvement from the last episode mainly due to the fact that I wasn't being bored by this one. This is still not that good of an episode as it still feels like there actively setting even though this is the second to last episode.

It feels like this is written as if this is the midway point to the season like they've had multiple episodes they've planned before the ending. The fact that characters are everywhere and the story doesn't seem like its not really making an impact is something that doesn't go unnoticed.

It still makes me question the nature of what this show was truly intended to be because its not living up to what the fans expected.

Decent Episode

Warning: Spoilers
My Reaction / Review for Secret Invasion Season 1 Episode 5: Episode Four was good and I gave it a rating is 8/10. Previous episode was epic but also too short. I see that this one is short too which sucks. Love the whole subplot with Rhodey Skrull. Oh boy Gravik's men attacked him, this is good. But is Talos really dead? I don't want Talos dead, I really like the character. This episode has some sweet fight scenes. While it's not as good as the previous episode it's still good and it keeps you watching. Storywise not much happens in this episode but that's ok. I expect more from the next episode though. My rating is 7.5/10.

Warning: Spoilers
I was genuinely surprised it's this episode. I'm not sure if it's because the others leading up to this just weren't as meaty or what, but this is probably the best one.

I will say that this probably didn't need to be a series. I probably shouldn't say that without at least watching the finale, but I feel like everything up to this point easily could been a movie and not six whole episodes. Or it at least should have been a shorter series. There just isn't quite enough content for six episodes.

That being said, it has been consistently good. I do genuinely like the plot for what it is, and the acting has been fine and getting better with each episode. I feel like things finally started picking up in the episode before this, and now things are just unraveling. This had quite a bit of violence and action as well as some bada** character exchanges.

The scene where the skrull turned against Gravik was probably the highlight for me. I also liked all of Olivia Colman's scenes. She's a character I would have liked more of in this series.

For the first time in this series, I'm actually a bit excited for the next episode. I wish I had felt that way in other episodes though.

Olivia Coleman saves the day (and this episode)
gbyzp23 July 2023
Overall, this series is a disappointment and quite possibly the worst entry in the MCU.

This ranks even worse than She-Hulk.

This is sad to say because it was always a thrill when Nick Fury would appear in the movies, so a series starring his character set a high bar of expectation.

This show fails to meet that expectation.

The show tries to make up for it's lack of story with lots of guns and fight scenes.

So why did I rate this episode 8 stars? Olivia Coleman!

From the first moment she appears in this episode, she shines. She adds a much needed bit of cocky and sometimes comedic relief in this episode.

In spite of its failings, I will keep watching this series to understand references made in future movies not because this show is good by any measure.

A 30-Minute Penultimate?
MamadNobari9719 July 2023
I honestly don't know what's happening in this show anymore. Not that I knew before or anything, but I just don't know what they are trying to do or what the point is.

First of all, I don't understand why they don't just stick with a fixed runtime. If you want your show to be only half an hour per episode, then do it, lots of shows do that like Barry and they're great. But what's with the 55, 40 and 36-minute episodes when you only have 6 episodes as a whole?

Do they have so little material and story to work with that the last three episodes of the series are only 30 minutes?

Why not make a tv movie when you have the means to do so and also somehow don't have enough story for even merely 6 episodes?

For anyone who somehow can't understand why people are not enjoying this show and think it's terrible, I implore you to rewatch this show as soon as it ends. Binge the whole thing to see how little story there is, how little characterization there is, how bad the storytelling and the writing is, and how bad the villain is.

These episodes are supposed to be build-ups for the finale and to get you hyped, but I didn't see any build-up. I do not care for any character or what's going on. When you have this few episodes, this bafflingly short runtime, and a pretty awful pacing, it's almost impossible to make compelling characters who the audience care about. The only episode that managed to actually managed to grab my attention was the previous one and that's it.

The pacing is just downright horrendous and just like every single other MCU show, the finale is rushed once again.

These writers don't really know how to write a weekly show and these shows are meant to be binge-watched, but Disney gotta Disney and release them weekly. They think if they do that people don't notice how badly the shows are written. There isn't much story progression for each episode and it's really laughable that most of these episodes feel like filler. That's why this shouldn't be a weekly released show. It's like a movie cut down to six episodes instead of an actual mini-series with compelling storytelling for each episode.

Disney is just a big endless trash-making machine. Nothing that comes out of Dinsey Plus' MCU side or even Star Wars side aside from Andor is gonna be worth watching. All Disney spent its money on is fancy actors and that's all. Who needs good writing when people keep buying subscriptions anyway.

Spoilers for 5

Warning: Spoilers
I've always maintained that characters who anger me make for great stories. I'm so angry with Fury. He learned nothing from the original Avengers movie and making weapons from the tesseract. He collected the dna with no input from any Avengers only to have it possibly end up in the wrong hands. The area should have been napalmed. What I like about this series is the same as the rest of much of Phase 5(which I have been enjoying with some exceptions).... I'm looking foward to what this means next for the MCU. I do hope episode 6 is two hours long (I know it won't be) but I really need to know what happened to the real Rhodes, when it happened, and does Skrhodey have control of the War Machine armor.

Harvest
lassegalsgaard21 July 2023
I've never been on the side of people wishing that these shows were longer. I've always thought that a good story could be told in six episodes if it had the right writers and the right creatives behind it. "Secret Invasion" is the first of the MCU shows where my interest has gone more and more for each episode. We're now left with the finale, and I'm not really sure where I stand. I'm going to watch it, but the question is, should I really? This was by far the worst episode of this show and maybe the worst episode of an MCU show period.

I don't know why this show seems to be so disinterested in its subject matter. It's almost treating this entire storyline - which didn't necessarily impress critics in its comic-form either, but has a lot of supporters - as a big joke; not really taking the gravity of this situation seriously. I know that they want to scale it back and do a smaller show, but this is not the storyline to do it. We've been left now with a protagonist who does the bare minimum every time we meet him and an antagonist who seems to just come up with his plan in the direction of where the wind blows. None of the characters are really taking on, and while I do love Nick Fury, it seems like Samuel L. Jackson has simply taken this character to the same area he takes all his other characters. It's pretty much just Samuel L. Jackson at this point. They've also managed to take out all the surprise from the show, coming up with sequences that leave you guessing whatever is coming from a mile away. And now, everything that's left is a finale that doesn't have a lot of good will left over from the previous episodes. The episode does leave fans off on a bit of a tease that is very interesting and leaves the door open for an epic conclusion, but with the lazy approach that the writers have taken to the show so far, it's hard to imagine anything different coming up for the finale.

"Harvest" is not just the worst episode of this show, but may be some of the worst material that the MCU has done so far. There's nothing to grasp on in this; none of the stories are interesting anymore and the show has set itself up to be one of the least fascinating MCU projects.

I was entertained.
mikekohr-9135419 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was entertained. Isn't that the goal? Could this episode been longer? Sure, It could have. But I enjoyed it anyway. The right amount of character development m I xed with action The action sequence featured weapons being reloaded, which is often overlooked. I think we might have also seen a potential way to neutralize Gravik. I hope Rhodey gets outed by Fury, just for being smug. I sure hope the real Rhodey is alive somewhere to return, but if not, so be it. But it would be better if Priscilla did in the female Skrull playing Rhodey. Will it be Fury or Ghia to neutralize Gravik. Very good series overall with great casting.

Acting is still the savior
justserag11 November 2023
  • Acting is the still the savior with "Harvest" The 5th episode of Secret Invasion

  • Samuel L. Jackson takes every chance to show his best and supreme performance sides as Fury within the otherwise rehashed narrative of the series

  • Same goes for Don Cheadle who properly seizes the opportunity to do something different with Rhodes

  • Olivia Coleman is charming and magnificent; achieving wonders on her own terms

  • The plot is bland, paint-by-numbers, and convoluted. Implausiblity is everywhere when you think of it, and Ali Selim's direction is so basic and cannot develop the show any further

  • All the supporting cast provide iconic moments despite a stagnate script and stalemate operations; most notably, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Charlayne Woodard

  • Nick Fury's theme finally grew onto my ears.

S01E05 - Small scale, low budget and Underwhelming
frank_ack19 July 2023
The Secret Invasion has an Earth threaten storyline but is told on a ridiculously small scale.

Clearly Marvel made this show on such a low budget, the whole story arc seems farcical as evidenced by:
  • scenes with the US President with no security, in an empty hospital
  • Multiple scenes with 2 or 3 people talking about the forthcoming global apocalypse
  • low grade CGI, if any.

The obvious retort to this critique would be to emphasis the word "Secret" in the title, to which one could simply reply this is a thin veil for a "Cheap Invasion".

Consider the grand scale of the Battle for New York vs this show.

At no time does the threat to Earth seem real - not withstanding this point, wouldn't such grave threat require Fury to call for some help from the league of Marvel heros to help, as he has done many times before?

The answer is simple, Marvel don't have the budget for this show.

As so the decline of the MCU continues ...

The Eye Patch is back
moviesfilmsreviewsinc21 December 2023
Nick Fury, a character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), excels when he forms a team with Skrulls, SHIELD agents, or Avengers. In Secret Invasion, Nick's greatest achievements are attributed to his worker bees. In the fifth episode, "Harvest," Nick's new team begins forming to help him deal with the Gravik situation. The "good guys" are split into pairs, with G'iah and Varra dealing with Talos' body and Gravik's kill squad, and Nick and Sonya relocating to Finland to retrieve The Harvest, all the Avengers' DNA Nick managed to scrape off the battlefield. Nick claims that Gravik even dreamed up the idea for Super Skrulls after seeing blood samples collected during the mission. The montage in Secret Invasion is particularly ludicrous, as Nick Fury's suit and gun are all stored in separate compartments, making it seem like they could fit in one. The Harvest also raises questions about the Avengers' DNA and the creator's intentions. Gravik's plan to start WWIII seems to be based on his reluctance to kill Nick Fury, a man he hates, to gain leverage to acquire a newly-revealed MacGuffin. This makes the nature of Gravik's cause messy and his efforts convoluted, making it difficult to see how bringing The Harvest to Gravik works in Nick's favor. The show is filled with smart spies doing incredibly dumb things, often killed off or yoinked from the brink of death just to get to the next episode. The show is filled with smart spies doing incredibly dumb things, often simply killed off or yoinked from the brink of death just to get to the next episode. However, at least this one didn't end with another person being shot or stabbed for dramatic effect, and gave us more Olivia Colman being fabulous. The episode "Harvest" fails to deliver on its promise due to a lack of poignancy in its build-up. The main characters do not grieve the loss of Talos or Maria, and the ramifications of the Skrull invasion and Gravik's terrorism are only observed through brief news clips. The Black Widow references are not done, as the Widows' tech and connections continue to support Nick when he travels incognito. O-T Fagbenle reprises his role from Marvel's Black Widow movie as Rick Mason, the "private contractor" who helped Natasha escape Thaddeus Ross. The Widow's Veil, a mask that can change facial appearance, returns, but Nick insists he does not have the new version of the tech. The audience must use their imagination to determine how he obtained the old one. As Marvel's Secret Invasion draws to a close, viewers question the show's limited scope. The Skrull conspiracy, supposedly far-reaching and world-threatening, feels like a bunch of terrorists playing dress-up. With only one episode left, it's clear why Nick Fury refuses to call in his superhero friends. However, 'Harvest' might be the strongest episode so far, with solid and bloody action beats. The fifth chapter is entertaining, with no head-scratching scenes or villains being shot in the head. Emilia Clarke finds something half-compelling to work with. Harvest
Prismark1020 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It was hard to take Secret Invasion seriously before the opening title credits rolled.

President Ritson is injured and Nick Fury rushes him to the hospital He whispers to the president's ear that Rhodey cannot be trusted.

Only for Rhodey to arrive and both he and Fury have a standoff. The moment Rhodey gets into the hospital room alone with Ritson, Fury knows the president will be murdered.

Of course given that no one is with the president at the moment. A skrull medic in disguise could have already killed Ritson.

When Rhodey threatens to reveal the footage of Fury killing Maria Hill. Fury hops it out of the hospital. Thereby leaving Rhodey alone with the president!

Harvest main plot was Fury used skrulls to take blood samples spilt by the superheroes when in battle. I did wonder how the skrulls could differentiate between human blood, animal blood and superhero blood. So much blood was spilt in those Marvel movies.

And down below we go..
Sjark20 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Was debating with myself whether to review this episode, because it was terrible, and can you really reiterate how terrible a show is from only 5 episodes?

Yes.. yes, you can, because Marvel is repeating the same mistakes that passes for storytelling in every single show now. You could turn it into a drinking game for every time men gets put down, to being the fathers, brothers or son of some significant Woman who made him into this "unique" character that must remember to give thanks to their matriarch.

Now.. you'd go blind from alcohol poisoning playing this game, so there's some advantages I suppose..

Constant misandry aside however, I can't review this episode riddled with plot holes without addressing the "secret safe lair" troupe marvel really loves doing. They did it in that other marvel movie with the chubby child with the magic bracelet, and they did it here.. Priscilla even made the point that for the house to appeal to him, it had to have the 3 things that mattered to him the most.. lots of privacy, lots of security and lots of light... Apparently the light part took charge of the equation, as every single surface is GLASS. The walls are massive windows, and even the ceiling is indeed glass.

So it must be bulletproof right? The leader of S. H. I. E. L. D. wouldn't just have bought some glass at walmart and called it a day.. right?

Que the "surprise" assassins not needing even a plastic explosive to push down the super secure front door.. Giah already did that by gently pushing it open with her hands.. nay, let's just sweep in through the amazingly fragile windows so we can have a 2 gal fire fight defeat a swat like military force who got a drop on 2 people standing around marvelling over how amazing they both are in a literal glass house.. super easy, not even breaking a sweat..

There were other developments, but at this stage.. who even cares?

They'll rewrite the impact of it in another 20 minutes of screenplay, which is the average length of actual story per episode.

What The Show Was Supposed To Be
SHU_Movies19 July 2023
Now this is the kind of thing I expected from this show! This episode is short, but a lot faster-paced than others in the show, and we get to see Fury more as he should've been, rather than the older, tireder and more battered shell of himself he has been in the previous episodes

The acting was good, the soundtrack is awesome, the writing is great, and the story is starting to come to a close in a great way. That said, I can't shake the feeling that this could've been done in four episodes instead of six, and it could've definitely helped with the pacing

I am really excited, though, for the finale. Hopefully it will be as good as the last couple episodes.

A Review And Explanation For The Ep.5 !
zawandxoshnaw30 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The fifth episode of the series had a very unique story, details and background that many people certainly didn't notice, but it did. The problem is that the episode was good, so? Of course not. Fans complain about the short time that was less than 30 minutes. These directors really don't know how to write a story properly. How can you wait a week for a 25-minute episode? This is not the first time this mistake has occurred in the opening and closing scenes. Similarly, Sonia's character's ugly racial behavior when the Scrolls man wants to kill the woman suddenly says, "Human men are like that," when she isn't sure the Scrolls were male Because as we know, female scrolls can transform into males just because their humans controlled them he was a man! Then this issue of feminism has become very common in Marvel, but not in a way that insults the male gender It was so beautifully shot that it should have lasted longer instead of seeing the dialogue Their relationship was very annoying for myself, especially Nick Fury's wife... Unlike the fact that the series has no heroes for personal reasons, Nick Fury thinks what if one day there are no heroes, someone like me does except we know any victory the Avengers They did it because of Nick Fury, except for Infinity War, which didn't appear. Unfortunately, the poor writing of this episode spoiled it like the others.

Then this article needs to be explained in a few points that many people do not fully understand

The harvest, whom Gravik is after, threatened to declare World War III if nick did not give it to him

-What is The Harvest?

The Harvest is a collector that contains all the DNA of the Avengers, especially much of Captain Marvel. When the End Game War ended, the whole area was filled with Avengers blood to shed Nick Fury has cleaned up some of his DNA, but secretly without the Avengers knowing

-How did Nick Fury collect it?

Nick Fury used the help of the Scrolls and created a whole organization for this great job and appointed Gravik as a manager there, so Gravik now wants to use it against the Earth and capture it because Nick Fury promised them a planet but didn't keep it for a long time

Why did Nick Fury collect it?

This is due to three theories: 1. Nick Fury may have simply carried it to provide the Avengers with a blood transfusion or something without them knowing

2. This is very dark, but it is very likely. To be used against themselves in any unwanted incident, just like Bruce Wayne in the Justice League

3. Giving it to someone and receive supernatural powers if the Avengers are destroyed

"I give it 4/10 in the end. I feel like a 25-minute episode is written in 20 minutes and the only good thing about the episode is the action.

Episode 5
bobcobb30127 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Well, I supposed that "Harvest" may have been a little better than some other episodes of the show, but Secret Invasion continues to just drag and drag. They rely on the same formula of building up to this big mission and making it seem like there is no way out and then, yep, they find a way out. Try shaking up the formula even a little bit, but I guess that is one of the things she was talking about in She-Hulk.

It is a Marvel show with only 6 episodes so of course I will stick with it and finish the thing, but this is testing my patience because there is potential here, just not good writing at all.
