Nick Fury, a character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), excels when he forms a team with Skrulls, SHIELD agents, or Avengers. In Secret Invasion, Nick's greatest achievements are attributed to his worker bees. In the fifth episode, "Harvest," Nick's new team begins forming to help him deal with the Gravik situation. The "good guys" are split into pairs, with G'iah and Varra dealing with Talos' body and Gravik's kill squad, and Nick and Sonya relocating to Finland to retrieve The Harvest, all the Avengers' DNA Nick managed to scrape off the battlefield. Nick claims that Gravik even dreamed up the idea for Super Skrulls after seeing blood samples collected during the mission. The montage in Secret Invasion is particularly ludicrous, as Nick Fury's suit and gun are all stored in separate compartments, making it seem like they could fit in one. The Harvest also raises questions about the Avengers' DNA and the creator's intentions. Gravik's plan to start WWIII seems to be based on his reluctance to kill Nick Fury, a man he hates, to gain leverage to acquire a newly-revealed MacGuffin. This makes the nature of Gravik's cause messy and his efforts convoluted, making it difficult to see how bringing The Harvest to Gravik works in Nick's favor. The show is filled with smart spies doing incredibly dumb things, often killed off or yoinked from the brink of death just to get to the next episode. The show is filled with smart spies doing incredibly dumb things, often simply killed off or yoinked from the brink of death just to get to the next episode. However, at least this one didn't end with another person being shot or stabbed for dramatic effect, and gave us more Olivia Colman being fabulous. The episode "Harvest" fails to deliver on its promise due to a lack of poignancy in its build-up. The main characters do not grieve the loss of Talos or Maria, and the ramifications of the Skrull invasion and Gravik's terrorism are only observed through brief news clips. The Black Widow references are not done, as the Widows' tech and connections continue to support Nick when he travels incognito. O-T Fagbenle reprises his role from Marvel's Black Widow movie as Rick Mason, the "private contractor" who helped Natasha escape Thaddeus Ross. The Widow's Veil, a mask that can change facial appearance, returns, but Nick insists he does not have the new version of the tech. The audience must use their imagination to determine how he obtained the old one. As Marvel's Secret Invasion draws to a close, viewers question the show's limited scope. The Skrull conspiracy, supposedly far-reaching and world-threatening, feels like a bunch of terrorists playing dress-up. With only one episode left, it's clear why Nick Fury refuses to call in his superhero friends. However, 'Harvest' might be the strongest episode so far, with solid and bloody action beats. The fifth chapter is entertaining, with no head-scratching scenes or villains being shot in the head. Emilia Clarke finds something half-compelling to work with.
