An absolutely Beautiful Piece of Comedy with a heart
accounts-901-2343905 June 2023
This is a beautiful ending to the second series and is worthy of any, of all the Sitcoms that came before it.

You know that this is written by people who come from this strata of society and can see both sides. Both the rawness and the love.

Full of beautifully drawn characters which contain enough truth for you to recognise their traits in someone you know.

Anyone, absolutely anyone that compares this un-favourably to Only Fools and Horses hasn't got a clue how good comedy works. This works and is some of the best Comedy that these Isles have produced for a while.

That's not to denigrate the genius of Only Fools and Horses, but this is a modern classic as worthy as the diamond in John Sullivan's work.

This full of emotion and takes the viewers on an emotional journey from disaster to triumph.

If there's any justice this will get another series... a whole tranche of series.

It's a gem.

The Wedding - Part 2

Tom Davis as creator of King Gary hoped it would be remembered in the same way as Only Fools and Horses.

A statement that would bring more laughs than the rest of this sorry sitcom.

Davis forgot two important things. Make it funny and make your characters likeable.

Del Boy might be a bit dodgy, but he would do anything for his family and close friends like Trigger and Denzil. He raised Rodney since he was a nipper. He also had to look after his doddery granddad.

When Rodney got married, Del Boy took a beating from the Driscoll brothers just so Rodney's wedding could go ahead without a hitch.

John Sullivan could do funny (the chandelier scene, Del Boy falling through the bar, the fluorescent paint in the Chinese restaurant) but his writing also had lots of pathos and drama. Del Boy talking about how he had to be a tough guy not because he wanted to, but he had to do it.

What do you get here. Gary is a bully, his parents are bigger bullies and his wife to be is a grasping freeloader more concerned about keeping up with the Joneses on social media.

Most of the guests at the wedding dislike Gary. His workers cannot really stand him.

I cared little about this episode. It was a bore as Gary deals with complaints and tries to salvage his dream wedding in a castle. It certainly was not humorous.
