For a first ep this is hard to fault - I loved it
andycottier4 February 2022
Very believable tough guy who is like Sherlock Holmes.

My only knowledge of Jack Reacher is Tom Cruise's films which I really liked.

This was better though - everyone is great in it - fight scenes are nicely done.

A few "remember you wanted this' moments.

I like this show! Great stuff!

Ritchson Shows Range!
ericnh-456055 February 2022
Alan Ritchson really pulls off Jack Reacher. More authentically than previous iterations for sure. I was on the fence when I heard he was going to be the new Reacher. My mind immediately went to his roles in Blue Mountain State and Workaholics and I just couldn't see it. Pleased to be wrong about that.

Looking forward to seeing more!

Wow! Super series start!
lotekguy-19 February 2022
Never read the books. Never heard of Alan Ritchson, who looks like an almost exact John Cena clone (in a good way). Since he's supposedly a match for the dude in the novels, halfway through this opener I fully understood why Original Recipe fans were pissed about Little Tommy getting the movie gigs. Eight episodes? One-day binge? Not a problem.

Wow!
dieter-531304 February 2022
For me, as a german reader of all 23 books (translated to german), i am really flashed! Alan Richtson did a very good Job. He has the right size and he is the charakter i imagined during reading the novels. Amazon nailed it, i'm looking forward to the next episodes..., Tom Cruise was such a waste of money, this poor little chap...

Wow. Just Wow.
silvrhairdevil-792474 February 2022
Without taking anything away from Cruise's movies, this is incredible. Ritchson looks exactly like my mental image of Reacher. The subtle nuggets of humor are like "Easter Eggs".

Watching the first 4 episodes on Prime (I was up 'til 4:00 AM) gave me the same "feeling" that reading the books did. Not surprising. Lee Child's influence was noticeable.

I do hope the same level of excellence carries over to the next seasons, 'cause this really has legs.

Wow, a real surprise here!
theburrus17 February 2022
In the media buildup of this series I had seen before it released, I believed it had promise. Definitely go in to this and erase all previous Reacher character portrayals you saw before, (mmm...mmm.. A guy by the name is Tom Cruise). This series gives a real true novel ty feel to it, not jazzed up too much; kinda reminds me of the newest Jack Ryan series sorta The reviews were good and sure enough, this is a true Reacher I think even Lee Child would approve of. One episode in and it's got me hooked in so far. Hope it keeps chugging along.

So funny. Laughed my ass of. This is Reacher. He has got everything right. The stature, the moves, the elbow technique, speed and grace. Wonderful. Good job.

Reacher is huge. Haha.
wandernn1-81-6832745 February 2022
Really liked the two Tom Cruise Reacher movies. I haven't read the books. I was impressed with what I've seen here at the beginning. Much more impressive than a lot of new series that have come out recently. I thought I wasn't going to like it, but I was wrong. I can see the same mannerisms being acted by Ritchson as they were by Cruise, so I'm assuming this is how Jack Reacher is supposed to be. Good fight scenes. To me the series could go even more TV-MA.

Looking forward to watching the rest of the Season.

Great show
conorkinkead4 February 2022
Good action, storyline and acting. The show has good pacing and the story arc is put together well. Home run. Reacher casting is great, captures the character well. He is both menacing yet funny and relatable at the same time. Hard to do. Roscoe is a great pairing as well. She owns each scene.

Good Adaption from the Book
polsixe5 February 2022
The Tom Cruise movies were slammed by Reacher fans as the actor did not have the physical presence of the character from the source novels. Here the star is well chosen and has the correct attributes. I didn't like the original book as the plotting and narrative was a little over the top and amateurish, so never carried on with the written series. This works well though as a mini series teleplay and has a fair mix of action and tension. Odd though all the actors seem to be unrecognizable from any previous works.

BEST REACHER YET!!!
Erin502664 February 2022
10 min into episode 1: already this show is better than the two movies! WHY? Cuz no matter what else, Alan Ritchson is not only a better actor than Tom Cruise, (ok, not a hard task!), but so much closer to Lee Child's Jack Reacher, which is what we lovers of the books care about! So I am already a fan! I don't care how closely the episodes resemble the books, cuz they shouldn't really, but the spirit has already been planted. This was sadly lacking in both movies so I am thrilled! Thanks, Amazon, once again, you rock da small screen!

Welcome to Margrave
Prismark108 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Jack Reacher is back and this time on the small screen. He is also a lot taller and packed with more muscle.

This is more the Jack Reacher as described in the books rather than the more diminutive Reacher played by Tom Cruise in the movies.

The first episode sees Reacher (Alan Ritchson) getting arrested in the small town of Margrave in Georgia.

The police suspect him for the killing of a man that happened earlier in the morning. The trouble is Reacher just arrived by bus and walked to a diner. He wanted to find out more about the blues singer Blind Blake.

The story is based on Killing Floor, the debut novel by Lee Child. Ritchson gets to show his physical presence in several fight scenes in prison.

It is not all brawn as he displays to chief detective Oscar Finlay hsi deduction skills. Reacher was a former military policeman.

This is a good introductory episode. Some of the writing is perfunctory, some of it was too silly such as when female officer threatens Reacher that she could kick his butt.

By the end, this is a mystery that becomes personal to Jack Reacher.

Shockingly bad
CannedHeat771 March 2022
Was looking forward to this show and am stunned how bad it is.

No the cops can't just take any suspect they want into custody for any length of time without charging them. Stupid. And going straight to PRISON without ever appearing in front of a judge. LOL! All the procedural elements of this show are like this. Oh and reacher is supposedly this law enforcement beast, but he never objects. That darn Sheriff!

The lead is a super bad actor and his physique is so dumb. I'm sorry I can't take this dude seriously looking looking like Moose from the Archie comics.

Anyway this show is reeeeal dumb.

Starting of with near perfection!
ha77y73ad9711 March 2022
What a way to open a series! This literally couldnt have started or ended in a better spot for an opening episode!

Alan Richardson is a specimen of a man and that is what Reacher should be about! All of the books, until the later where they change to fit the narrative of Tom Cruise, of the crazy strong quiet type that if he says hes going to break your face hes going to and he captures this without being as much of a douche in the books and adhering himself to the audience. Roscoe has the right temperament but have to say the wrong look compared to the books but dam i can see this chemistry growing the same way as the books for this series! Finley i love just love that guy!

The whole story so far has been very fast paced with them arresting him, jail weekend and the emergence of his brother being the unnamed John Doe but couldnt have asked for a better way to end the episode! Special plaudits to the fight against the nazis, you can really tell they've eput their time into reading the book and how he should be conducting himself throughout this!

With them all being available i cannot wait! I'll starting this straight after hitting submit!

Good Series, little bad language!
eddymessick4 February 2022
Loved the movies with Tom Cruise so thought I would check it out. Reacher + Jason Bourne = good stuff. Worth watching. Instead of 5'6" Cruise, we have a 6'2" mammoth of a man in Richtman who can do man size physical things. He's a stud. Women will not be able to get enough of him. Roscoe is from my town, Nashville, TN. She does a good job.

I'm a Cruise fan ... but this is the guy who should be playing Jack Reacher.
rik-938-11427126 February 2022
Fame and draw power aside, Cruise was an improper casting. Reacher is 6'5" and blonde in the books. Now it's right. I read this book... and the first episode is an outstanding start. Assuming they maintain the quality, I look forward to the rest ... and hopefully many more seasons.

Now THIS IS Jack Reacher!!
SherryHKuhn14 February 2022
Thank you for actually casting an actor that fits the overall description and personality of Reacher! I've read the books, I've listened to the audio books as well and all I can say is Tom Cruise must have paid alot of money to be cast as Reacher because he is the furthest from Reacher as can be. I've never watched the Cruise movies and never plan on it but I've enjoyed this series so far!!

He's a Big'un
Hitchcoc8 March 2022
Having no past experience with this character, I have to say he appeals to our baser instincts. He gets arrested by a small town police force and an overzealous chief detective. He is thrown in jail where he destroys everyone with whom he comes in contact. He gets a rude surprise at the end which will drive him forward. The town is a cesspool and even an seemingly indestructible character has to have some kryptonite around.

Strong opener
Leofwine_draca19 May 2022
Here we have the new Amazon series of JACK REACHER, based on the books by Lee Child. So far this surpasses the Tom Cruise movies as the hero is much more like in the books. This first episode has a lot going on from involved plotting to decent set-pieces, and the latter action scenes really wow. Let's hope it continues on the same level...

"In an investigation, details matter."
LegendaryFang569 February 2022
Admittedly, my low-key expectation was that this would be "worse" than it was, which could still develop to be the case; this was only the premiere. The reason was Amazon's Prime Video. Their shows tend to be hit-or-miss. Out of those I've watched, there was an element of underwhelming-ness in some of them. Especially Hanna. So far, that isn't the case with this show, although as I said: this was only the premiere. I hope it stays like this to the end or even gets better, at times or consistently.

As far as the source material is concerned, I haven't read any of the novels, but I think I've seen 'Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.' I'm not sure about the first movie. I don't remember much, except maybe it seemed like your "average" action-type film, whereas this premiere is already giving off a completely different vibe. Of course, that's not a dig at Tom Cruise or that movie.

All I know about the character, specifically; I don't know anything regarding any of the novels' plots: he's described more in line with Alan Ritchson than Tom Cruise, as well as being tall like the former. So much so: there were instances where his physique was ridiculous enough to where he was close to superhuman. I think that's (one of, or) the main reason why some people didn't like Tom Cruise's portrayal of the character.

So far, Alan Ritchson's Jack Reacher is like a different character than Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher, although the former may still be similar to other characters played by Alan, like Hank Hall/Hawk in Titans. But I guess the same could be said with Tom Cruise as well. Not (enough) much differentiation between each character played by both Alan and Tom; the overall acting performance. Acting-wise, Tom Cruise is better than Alan Ritchson. But regarding this specific character, the latter's portrayal of said character is the favorable one, it seems, and not just because of Alan's height and physique.

  • It's nice to see Malcolm Goodwin. From the first few episodes of iZombie I watched (I think), his character seemed to be a stand-out. In this show, his character already seems different, yet at times, similar. Based on what I vaguely remember regarding his character in that show. I'm interested in seeing more of his character in this show.

  • For the quote, "In an investigation, details matter," to be like a running gag, there's irony in that there seemed to be an inconsistency or inconsistencies, supposedly. Like calling a suppressor/silencer a silencer instead of a can. I don't quite get that one. I guess people who are knowledgeable in that field call them cans. And supposedly, there were other inconsistencies as well: military inconsistencies. I don't know what they are; I didn't even know about suppressors, that they're called cans. So, as you can imagine, I couldn't care less about any of that, let alone see those inconsistencies negatively to where it affects the overall enjoyment of the episode.

  • The quick and efficient handling of that guy in the prison cell was good. Even though it was almost over instantaneously, compared to the fight sequence in the shower area, I liked it a little better. The fight choreography of the latter was pretty decent. I hope there's more stuff like that in the rest of the season; action-type stuff.

  • I noticed familiarity with the dialogue written for Jack Reacher: and just his general attitude. It reminded me of Tom Cruise('s) (dialogue) as Jack Reacher. I wonder if the writers of this show took inspiration from that or if both iterations are Jack Reacher-esque, and it just comes down to whose portrayal people like better.

  • Alan Ritchson's performance as Jack Reacher seems pretty decent so far. He seems to embody the character in a general sense. Maybe because, acting-wise, he's not in unfamiliar territory. The way he plays Jack Reacher seemed reminiscent of how he played Hank Hall/Hawk in Titans. Maybe even other roles of his, too. He doesn't seem to be acting out of his range, playing a character requiring him to act entirely different than all of his roles. But that's not to say: "He's doing a bad job."

I thought this was a decent introduction to the show. Since this was a premiere, it focused on setting up the storyline and getting you somewhat familiar with the characters: Jack's investigative skills served as a bit of disguised exposition. Sometimes, premieres are underwhelming because of that; the focus on setting up the storyline, etc. This one wasn't. If you want to be specific, the beginning was a bit slow; the episode overall was a bit slow, too. But that was never a problem. Its entirety was thoroughly entertaining, and in hindsight, it was even better.

Outstanding the best!!
tracysamsanders15 February 2022
I followed a series with Tom Cruise. Loved it watched it several times this is one of the best action pictures with a great story and great action throughout the whole show. The way the series tells the story is a very in-depth process which brings the character to life and understanding of Jack reacher. I do hope they carry on with the series the actors and actresses are outstanding.

Count of Three
dannylee-780828 September 2022
This show is totally Anime protagonist type show. I am not blown away by Alan Ritchson's performance, but I am impressed how overpowered his character is. His superb detective skills (I am sucker for these Sherlock Holmes type moments). His physique makes me wants to hit the gym. Really brings out the masculine instincts in me as well. Other supporting characters like Roscoe and Finlay are also interesting as well. Roscoe is so in love with Reacher it's so funny. I wasn't super convinced of the show until the turn at the end, which I won't spoil for now. Great pilot. Love what they are doing with this show!

Acting class anyone?
fredpolvere13 February 2022
I have seen better acting in high school productions. Everyone is wooden. Making things worse is the awful dialog.

While "details matter" - the plot lines don't add up.

I am not sure how this story can run for another seven episodes.

Nice Transition
PartialMovieViewer18 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ok, Tom Cruise fan and as disappointed he didn't carry on, this is promising. Acting, directing, plot, script start off nicely. I would suggest filming the big guy, straight on, instead of filming up at his nostrils to overemphasize his size. Come on, we know he's a monster, focus in on his eyes. The pupils are the windows to his confidence and intelligence. Good show, can get better. Great cast.

Kickass!
Goodfella516 February 2022
Have not read the books, but Alan Ritchson absolutely OWNS as Reacher from start to finish. Overall story was a bit anticlimactic but it was still fast fun and action the whole time. Hoping this gets multiple seasons.
