Mystery surrounding a near fatal accident.
mark.waltz27 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
There was no Independence for the cast of "Dark Shadows" in this episode that was filmed on the 4th of July. But it's a relief that Roger's accident just left him bruised and shaken up. But just how did Roger's car crash in the first place? Of course, Victoria spotted Burke Devlin in the Collins family garage, and of course, he did have a solid motive. Then there's David's hatred of his father and the fact that he seems predict that something bad would happen. The regal Joan Bennett is concerned over the fact that groundskeeper Matthew had a car accident at the same spot years ago and expresses concern that more harm could come to her family. With daughter Carolyn flirting with Burke at the expense of her relationship with Joe, there's a concern too that she might end up being a part of Burke's revenge. It's a bit spooky but well done, with Nancy Barrett showing some spunk as she continues to play Burke and Joe against each other.

"Hit Me Over the Head and Drag Me Out of Collinwood"
wes-connors29 July 2011
Malloy reaches Collinwood with news that Roger was not seriously injured in the car crash. Liz (Joan Bennett) remains shaken, "I'm not sure it was an accident." She tells Vicki (Alexandra Moltke) the first suspect should be Burke Devlin, due to his hatred for Roger. At the Blue Whale, Burke (Mitchell Ryan) wonders why Roger hasn't arrived for their meeting. Carolyn (Nancy Barrett) pays more attention to Burke than boyfriend Joe (Joel Crothers), who wants to see a movie in Logansport...

Liz gives more details about Mathew's accident, "seventeen years ago." It's also stated to be the year after (not "before") he started working at Collinwood. However, Ms. Bennett's performance is not assured enough to trust her timeline. Matthew (George Mitchell) is defensive when Liz asks him about the brakes on Roger's car, making him another potential suspect. Matthew states that the brakes on Roger's Ford Mustang were serviced recently; they were "tampered with…"

Just a filler episode

Warning: Spoilers
This episode of DARK SHADOWS is a bit of an anticlimax given the end of the previous instalment. Roger's car accident is merely talked about rather than shown, and once again a lot of the running time is made up of the slightly tiresome love triangle between Burke/Carolyn and Joe. The writers work hard to evoke mystery in the dialogue about the crash but it's all a little slow and stuffy.
