The difficulty of adapting
callanvass9 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Danny Tamer (Bob Saget) has a wife who is killed in a car accident. Danny's Mother stays for a while to help out, but Danny gets sick of her, despite protesting from two of his daughters. He has his two best friends Jesse & Joey come live with them, so they can help out around the house. D.J is forced to let her little sister move in with her, and she doesn't take too kindly to the idea. Joey & Jesse have trouble changing diapers. I hadn't seen this show in years, but I caught it the other night, and I'm definitely going to watch more episodes. This episode is a great message about how to adapt when life throws curveballs at you. I've never had to deal with a dead parent, but I was highly impressed at how this one was done. I empathized with D.J's annoyance at having to let her sister move in as well. As a kid, you don't really understand why you have to do such a thing. It was pretty easy to tell that this show would be a huge hit. It has a great theme song, the cast is lively and charismatic, and it's genuine, which is a huge recipe for success. I am especially amazed at how poised Candace Bure & Jodi Sweetin were for their ages. Dave Coulier has the tendency to be irritating once in a while, but he does some amazing impressions, including Pee Wee Herman, among others. The Olsen sisters are babies, so the impact wasn't there as of yet. The ending is especially well done, and moved me very much. Bob Saget impressed me with his emotional turn at the end. After all…Bob Saget is a mean, mean. Hugging machine! This is a great pilot. The show is very amiable, and anyone with a proper mind should get into it.

Our Very First Time Changing A Diaper...

Warning: Spoilers
I love this episode. I think it was a great first episode of a show. It was funny. It was smart. And was very entertaining. Danny Tanner's wife, Pam has just died, three months ago. He has three children, DJ who is ten, Stephanie who is five, and Michelle who is just a baby. Danny's mother, had been staying with them, but when she decides to go back home, Danny get's Joey, his best friend and Jessie, his brother-in-law to move in with him to help raise his children. And some wacky stuff happens. I love the cast of the show. I love watching Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen play a baby, and I love watching John Stamos and Dave Coulier try to changer her diaper. I can't believe they were that naive. I mean it's not that hard to change one. I love that they put her in a cooking pot, and wrap a cloth around her. I also love when Stephanie asked, if that's how they change a diaper, how do you roast a turkey. And that she didn't say that there were diapers, right there. I feel bad for DJ because she seems to reject the rest of her family. It is a very emotional time for her. She was only ten years old. She was old enough to understand what had happened to her mother. Stephanie didn't really understand, and Michelle was a baby. A great series premiere, defiantly one of the best ones I've seen.

Classic baby scene
mitchrmp2 December 2013
I still remember seeing the commercials that advertised this brand new sitcom coming to ABC. The scene that caught my attention was the diaper- changing scene. This is probably one of the most comic relief scenes ever made in modern times!

In this first episode, the girls are saying goodbye to Grandma Tanner (she'll later be played by a different person). In the original un- aired plot, D.J. tries to pay Grandma $25 to stay, but it's not in the one that aired.

Uncle Jessie soon arrives and then Joey. In this episode, their characters are really established. Danny's maniac-cleanness hasn't taken yet, but it soon will.

Of course, the best scene is the diaper changing scene, but the entire episode is just full of humor! One of the best episodes of Season One.

Destined To Be A Classic.
Movie-ManDan2 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of those pilots that is a true start to a series. Not one of those that could be placed anywhere. This is a perfect summary of the series and shows exactly how it all started.

This show revolves around sports anchor Danny Tanner (Bob Saget) and his three daughters DJ (Candace Cameron), Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and Michelle (the Olsen Twins). Danny's wife recently died in a car accident and his mother is returning home, so he gets his brother-in-law Jesse (John Stamos) and best friend Joey (Dave Coulier) to move in and help raise his family. Jesse is an up-and-coming rockstar who is irresponsible and a playboy. Joey is an immature, up-and-coming comedian who can brighten anybody's day.

In this pilot, Danny's mother leaves, Joey and Jesse move in, Danny goes to work, and Joey and Jesse are left with he girls. The most classic scene in this episode is when they try to change baby Michelle's diaper. Their ignorance on how to do it makes for one funny sequence. Later, DJ moves into the garage after she is forced to share her room with Stephanie. It is cheesy how she moves back in, but it is very heartfelt and honest. Her mother dies, her grandma leave, and her bedroom in being diminished. Who can blame her? Luckily, every problem in this show gets fixed in a half hour.

Things I like about this episode:

  • Bob Saget's performance as Danny Tanner.

  • John Stamos's performance as Uncle Jesse.

  • Dave Coulier's performance as Joey Gladstone.

  • Candace Cameron Bure's performance as DJ Tanner.

  • Jodie Sweetin's performance as Stephanie Tanner.

  • Joey impersonating Kermit the Frog and Pee-Wee Herman to Michelle in a high-pitched voice.

  • Joey and Jesse putting Michelle on the pot to change her diaper.

  • The family singing the Flintstones theme song.

  • DJ living down in the garage to get away from Stephanie but then moves back in.

Roommates

Warning: Spoilers
The father has three girls and his brother-in-law and best friend moves in. Uncle Jesse starts talking about a showgirl and going to have sex but the father calls it eating food.

DJ is upset she has to share a room with her sister. Her friend has her own room and own phone.

The baby is so cute and the guys have issues with changing her diaper. They even put her bum in front of the fan.
