Husbands need to include wives in important decisions
patmobile13 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
While I agree with others that Melissa is a cold blooded killer, I think her husband should have discussed his plans to give away his fortune with his wife.

This story was set in the '70's , when women were considered coequals in a marriage.

Melissa was actually pretty talented - she could swim for hours in open seas and she could perform underwater acrobatics in the Bahamas while wearing a blonde wig. She also knew how to blow up an RV and make it look like an accident.

The family estate is beautiful as are the automobiles!!

Also, I notice Y. A. Adams reviewing some episodes and calling them predictable, then giving a rating of 1/10. If he doesn't like the show, then why is he bothering to watch it?

This woman is trouble!
planktonrules14 July 2021
When the story begins, a rich older man finds Melissa (Pamela Franklin) aboard his yacht when he's out to sea. She apparently has been dating the man's son....and he informs her that he knows she's a gold digger. Well, she apparently IS only out for the family's money...and arranges an 'accident' to happen to the man.

Barnaby is hired by the dead man's sister. She cannot believe such an experienced sailor could die by accident while boating. And, on hand at the family estate is the dead man's two sons....one a ne'er do well and the other a really nice guy....who just married Melissa. What's next??

This woman is a real black widow...and I loved how it ended. All in all, a well written and tense episode.

I WANT ALL YOUR MONEY, THE SOONER THE BETTER!

Pamela Franklin, who at the time was appearing some cult movie thrillers, is perfect for this bad, bad girl role. She plays Melissa who is a gold digger on steroids.

The fabulously wealthy father of the young man she is dating knows the score -- and he's about to expose her. He hasn't got a chance!

Franklin is the whole show here, and she's dynamic. This was similar to a part she played in an eerie episode of CANNON, where Franklin had a twin sister who was homicidal.

It's an interesting case, because the murder takes place on the gentleman's yacht, so Melissa actually had to swim back to shore. Not only is she rather clever, she's also a champion swimmer of sorts!

Lots of familiar character actors in this one, and fun to place the face. Robert Pine guest stars and veteran actress Phyllis Thaxter plays Aunt Meg.

Well directed by Ralph Senensky, who brought out some fine performances by everybody. Ralph was best known for many classic episodes of STAR TREK and THE FBI. He also did comedy and was associated with the PARTRIDGE FAMILY.

SEASON 3 EPISODE 15 remastered CBS dvd box set.

Another formulaic Predictable Plot
WYAdams2 August 2022
Once again the writers pulled out the Barnaby Jones outline to give us another predictable story. As with every episode, it starts with a murder, this time deliberate rather than accidental. Then we get the second murder to cover the first. This time they put a little spin on it by having the second person murdered to stop blackmail, although the blackmail was for something else, the blackmailer suspected the person may have committed the first murder. Then, as usual, Barnaby arrives in the nick of time to stop a third murder.

It's like the writers pull out a prewritten plot and add names and a few details. They did change it slightly by eliminating the final shootout, that is why I rated ir three stars instead of one.
