To control the annual flooding of the Nile, Egyptian authorities decided to build the Aswan High Dam that would endanger Abu Simbel, the colossal stone monuments to pharaoh Ramses II. UNESCO funded a project to raise the monuments to the top of the cliffs and this program documents the engineering and human story.
