Movies need characters that audience care about - this had none. Main character had one dimension - dead wife. No idea if he loved her or not - as there was no emotions between them. He definitely does not love his daughter and has no reason to live. Others are guessing that the point of the movie is coping with loss - To me it seems that main character hated his life and so did his wife. They both wanted to die and she beat him to it as the guy is such a pu**y. He keeps hoping someone would end his misery (and the audiences) as his wife was wearing the pants (and had the balls) in their family. No one cares so he fails constantly.
There is no point of wife dying way back when in the past and movie skipping about 15 years forward. It just does not make any sense that the dead wife after ten to fifteen years has anything to do with his behaviour. What did he do in-between (was comatose)? In the end he has loses all his sanity and accepts the fact that his life is hell and there is no way out of it.
People who think this is a great movie must think that bdsm is something special and it gives the movie depth and meaning. It does not. It is just boring.
