Also dooming one of the best prisoners to death would be destructive for the prison's discipline and structure. Again, those matters are tightly controlled from the higher instances.

I'd like to recommend to this story's creators to take a more demanding approach for their projects for the benefit of viewers and themselves.
The plot would be much stronger if instead of murder the "godfathers" implements a punishment for Rune where they would benefit from.
For example, they would force him to pay the interest rate on the debt and therefore make a slave from him. Slavery is one of the "features" of Dark; therefore, it's natural for "godfathers". Rune, in turn, would have invented a way to outwit them.
