Fearless (1993)
High-end Spiritual movie, and the keyword is Compassion
The Fearless (1998) is a high-end Spiritual movie, and the keyword is Compassion.
The main protagonist, Max, faces a Spiritual Choice.
This experience, decisive for his fate, takes place during an aeroplane crash. In this extraordinary situation during the minimal time, Max must choose his Spiritual direction.
Fear would lead him to the path of Darkness, but choosing Courage - to the Light. And he goes for the second option.
His choice works as a trigger for the program of that life path that is programmed for this choice.
Usually, an average person can't see a consequence of his spiritual choice beforehand, the same with Max.
After the strong mental statement "I am not afraid" Max moves from his seat to help a lonely boy.
As a result, changing the place prevents him from death, which his partner got.
Like a chain reaction, the highest intangible values of Lights switch on and next Max experiences Compassion, which leads him to rescue surviving people.
His soul and mind rejoice because Max not only made the Right Spiritual Choice but also survived: "That was the best what happened with me in my life".
Now Max recognises how much he was close to death. His soul can pick up the "echo" of that life-scenario that remained unmanifest.
He captures this echo not with reason, but with a unique inner feeling. Max, however, is mistaken by thinking that all survived people feel the same. And when he points out that "we are already dead" to Carla, she is not able to understand him because her inner experience is not the same.
Unconditional love is the highest grade of Compassion. That is a stage what, Max, experiences with Carla. She lost her child and desperate, and he is ready to sacrifice his life to awaken her from the depression.
Unfortunately, unconditional love is so rare in people's lives that even sophisticated and caring people, such as Max's wife, cannot understand this.
To make a conclusion, Compassion is one of the highest intangibles values of Lights. Unfortunately, due to our low level of consciousness, most of us do not understand the meaning of it.
As a result, there are not many films with a theme of Compassion. And, as an unfortunate "norm", Compassion does not come from a person, but from a creature not of human origin ( Kyle XY (TV Series 2006-2009), K-PAX (2001).
Fearless (1998) by Peter Weir is a beautiful spiritual film, and the plot could be even stronger if the awakened Max would rethink about his Faith in God.
You can find more about Spiritual Choice and the highest intangible values of Lights in the novel Redemption by Jacklyn A. Lo.
R (2010)
Misleading ending of the movie.
We must understand that just as the "Lights" obey the Laws, the "Darks" must obey the Laws too. Laws help us to evolute and to move forward.
In the film "R (2010)", being loyal to his "godfathers", Rune invents a profitable business scheme, beneficial to many. At a certain moment, a third party set him up, and he became a debtor.
No one from the mature prisoners-"godfathers" gives him an idea of how to deal with the situation. Instead, losing their money without any chance for return, they spend additional resources such as energy, time and risk to murder this guy.
The death of the protagonist is the most absurd idea of the film, which is rare to find!
We have to understand that although "Darks" are harsh, they are not stupid and they take their benefits much more seriously than "Lights". Eliminating a valuable resource as Rune is the same for them as to chop the branch on which they sit. After all, he is of all trades, and who instead of him would do all dirty job?
Another weird thing is that the greedy third party is correctional officers.
They not only put on risk a human life for the little fat but they also ready to jeopardize their careers and stable earnings.
After all, they are a hired labour force and must inform the higher authorities about every severe case of violence. In their turn, their bosses must report each death to the higher authorities and so on.
Also dooming one of the best prisoners to death would be destructive for the prison's discipline and structure. Again, those matters are tightly controlled from the higher instances.
In conclusion.
Each film supposed to teach us something, but which lesson could be learned from this misleading movie?
I'd like to recommend to this story's creators to take a more demanding approach for their projects for the benefit of viewers and themselves.
The plot would be much stronger if instead of murder the "godfathers" implements a punishment for Rune where they would benefit from.
For example, they would force him to pay the interest rate on the debt and therefore make a slave from him. Slavery is one of the "features" of Dark; therefore, it's natural for "godfathers". Rune, in turn, would have invented a way to outwit them.
Bratya Karamazovy (1969)
Excellent movie with spiritual awakening elements
The discussions in Bratya Karamazovy (The Brothers Karamazov) about faith in God, the soul, and bad and good acts take place throughout the story, from beginning to end.
All the main characters take part in those discussions. However, Ivan, the oldest of the Karamazov brothers, has the most important role in the story due to his free thinking.
Ivan's mind is polluted by atheism; his linear way of thinking does not perceive the world of God.
Feeling himself separated from others (i.e., other beings), Ivan continuously expresses his anti-divine's ideas, including full rights for any action without punishment. The youngest of the Karamazov brothers, the devout Aliosha, calls Ivan's mental statement "a hell in the mind" and questions how Ivan can live like that.
Footman Smerdyakov is another "dark" personality in the movie. Looking to accomplish his dream of attaining 3,000 rubles belonging to his master (Ivan's father), he stumbles upon Ivan's concept that "you can do whatever you want because there is no God or immortal soul".
Being a confederate of the Karamazov father, Smerdyakov makes a plan to get the money, but he is too afraid to cross a line - killing his master.
Smerdyakov needs someone who will approve of murder and Ivan, with his high density of consciousness, seems to be the right person for this purpose.
Ivan doesn't state his approval of Smerdyakov's plan, but for the footman, a quick glance is enough. What he reads in Ivan's eyes gives him the green light for murder.
A mental wish for his father's death leads Ivan to even more pollution of his mind; he approaches the spiritual realm of the darks and meets a demon. Even with a demon, Ivan continues his dispute about the reality of non-materialistic worlds, God and His existence without giving up his disbelief.
The end of the story clarifies how Ivan's philosophy is wrong.
Unconscious fear of the coming karma and pangs of conscience force Smerdyakov to give away the stolen money and commit suicide. These actions help him reduce the heaviness of the negative karma, which has already started its punishment for the killing of a human.
Ivan, bringing the money to the court, accuses himself of the murder, but is not able to get rid of the demon.
The lesson learnt:
Every action in the physical world follows a mental statement - a thought, which is a product of the mind. A pure mind is a source of pure thoughts, while a polluted mind produces polluted thoughts and, following them, destructive actions.
The Rite (2011)
This is about a man's agony in finding faith in God.
This is a movie about a man's agony in finding faith in God.
The culmination of the film is the protagonist's Spiritual Choice.
Spiritual Choice comes with doubts, confusion and hesitation, which are always in our way at any particular period of one's life.
The protagonist is at a higher level of consciousness than the average human, which is what makes the Choice so tough.
An interactive physical reality plays strangely around the protagonist and he starts to think he is going insane. His Choice of Light is not obvious to either himself or the movie's audience.
However, after a long period of struggling with his inner self, Michael, with the help of other people and situations, finally makes his Choice to head toward Light and obtains Faith in God. The chosen direction opens a New Path to Michael – to help other people.
P.S. This story is a great example of the significant effort our Higher Brotherhood puts into each and every one of us to help with our Choice towards Light!
Also, I like that in this movie a Church is shown as a powerful institution, one with the skills and intelligence to support and help people, which is unfortunately not always the case.
The Rite is an excellent movie and I highly recommend it to any spiritual seeker.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
A fine journey to a parallel world
This movie is about a parallel world called Narnia, its inhabitants and human kids who have found a portal to this land. In accordance with New Age "gurus", there are 7 parallel worlds around our Earth, each of them full of various creatures. Those creatures have different appearances such as, goblins, boggarts, etc., but also other dissimilar capabilities from our world. For example, animals - inhabitants in Narnia are able to talk, other creatures, like the witch, are capable of transforming a living person into a frozen statue.
Normally, the inhabitants in the parallel worlds do not interact with each other, except in specific circumstances.
The entry happens through certain portals on Earth. One of the most famous portals on Earth is Bermuda Triangle. In the Chronicles of Narnia, the portal is the wardrobe. In accordance to prophecy, Narnia will be freed from the power of the White Witch by the hand of a human.
Prophecy as a spiritual awakening element is a very mysterious concept, which normally charms or/and scares people. From a spiritual point of view, prophecy is a destiny (= scenario), written for a land, person or even a civilization. Some predictions, as in this movie, give a hope and some induce a fear because humankind doesn't know how to deal with that.
One more exiting spiritual element in the story is time. Time in the parallel world runs in a different way to our world. Kids are returning back home as the same age they had when they started their journey to Narnia.
This positive movie with several spiritual-awakening elements is recommended for the whole family.
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006)
Dark Fantasy with a few drops of spirituality
The most unique part in this story is an extraordinary quality of the protagonist, Jean- Baptiste Grenouille, who sees the world around him (= materialistic reality) through scents. THE WHOLE FILM IS ABOUT HIS REALITY ANYWAY. Having a superior olfactory sense, he is able to distinguish the finest aromas in the world. The "no return" turning point of the movie happens when Jean-Baptiste Grenouille attracted by a fine smell, follows a young girl and inadvertently kills her. The beauty of the smell slowly but steadily disappears from the dead body and the young man is left alone. Jean-Baptiste begins to search for a panacea to save the smell for a long time and found a perfume maker who started teaching the young man the process of the obtaining "the soul of flowers". Following his paranoia to find the ultimate scent (= the soul of beauty), Jean-Baptiste becomes a ruthless serial killer of young girls, but finally made the perfume of his desire.
An important lesson learned from the movie – people make their decisions based on their own values.
Ghost (1990)
A life after death.
This is a supernatural thriller about a life after death.
Sam, the main protagonist, was murdered by his best friend Carl. Sam's physical body was buried, but his soul stays alive and wanders around as a ghost.
The new existence is a new experience for Sam - he not only has to adapt to it, but also to protect his beloved girlfriend and to get revenge.
As a ghost, Sam leans new skills – the ability to go through material objects, such as walls or people, to influence on the world around him by the power of his will and to be heard by a psychic.
After their death, Carl and his accomplice also become ghosts. We see supernatural entities such as demons that came to Earth to take away both murderers.
The culmination of the movie is sad, but positive - the murderers have been punished and Sam is taken to Heaven by the power of Light.
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
A bizarre movie with dark characters.
This is simply the best of Kubrick.
The main protagonist, Alex DeLarge (awesomely played of Malcolm McDowell), is a spiritual entity moving towards Darkness (violence, no regrets for wrong doings, cruelty and control of the gang members).
At the certain point, Alex becomes extremely dangerous and an uptight society is pushed to isolate him by the sending the young man to prison. A copy of the New Testament, which was giving to Alex to become a better person, attracts him only from a Dark character point of view - there is no compassion for Jesus, but an enjoyment of the cruelty of a Roman solder beating Jesus.
Prison is not the best place for Alex and he takes advantage of a chance offered from the government to get out of prison – to go through a experiment. A priest is pitching an idea of giving Alex his own (Spiritual) choice (towards Light), as a true cure for the young man (and society), but nobody is interested in it. (as a matter of fact, the "no-choice" is a feature of Darks). After the cure, Alex gets his freedom, but negative karma for all his bad doings is acting against him and demanding pay back so he suffers. The ending of the movie provides a new twist of survival for the protagonist. Alex is getting help from a representative of highest society, who is offering him a mutually beneficial deal.
The evolution of Alex towards Darkness continues on a new level.
Excellent movie.
Damien: Omen II (1978)
Who Are We?
All Omen series are very powerful and full of mystery. Each of the series has its own hypnotizing effect based on mystical twists of the story and great play of the actors (e.g., Sam Neill). However, the second series, Damien: Omen II, was the most thought- provoking one for me. A key point of that series is Who Are We? The main protagonist, Damien, being a son of Satan, hasn't been aware of that till age thirteen (!). Before that revelation, he felt like an ordinary kid doing his daily routine, playing with other children, and following the same rules as they do. I was in my twenties when I watched the movie the first time and I was in shock. The son of the Prince of Darkness got that revelation, but how and where do we humans get the most important information in our life? The question "Who am I?" naturally comes after watching this story. If even the background of Satan's son was closed for him, how do I know who I am? It has been taken sometime for me to dig out this info. In accordance with New Age knowledge, all spiritual entities including human-beings have been getting own programs for their life existence, designed especially for that particular entity. Both our spiritual and materialistic pasts are closed from us. We don't know our previous backgrounds; we can only guess. It's done for many reasons, but perhaps the most important one is to make a materialistic reality more attractive and appealing for us. Have I been a priest or farmer, cosmonaut or housewife? Male or female or perhaps asexual? Or maybe this is my very first time on the earth? We also don't know our good and bad deeds, what karma we have accumulated on our evolutionary path and what choices we have been doing. Everything is closed from us to make our experience more challenging, unique and exciting.
Wonderful movie!
Phenomenon (1996)
Optimistic Drama
The protagonist, the average guy from the average place, had been affected by supernatural phenomena with an unknown origin.
Physically, George (John Travolta) was staying absolutely the same, but the "phenomena" affected him internally and changed the world around him.
The plot revealed such paranormal things as psychokinesis, super- fast learning, enormous operational power, fatigue-free, upgraded vision with understanding of things in depth, synergy with nature, etc.
What I enjoyed the most: The story reveals that ALL THINGS have ENERGETIC origin and belong to the law of ENERGY. As such, everything could be observed, analysed, changed, etc. on the ENERGY level (widely used in the Ayurvedic medicine, PRANA-healing methodology; unfortunately unknown by most of the Western-world).
The movie's watcher sees an amazing partnership of the protagonist with all things around.
At the end of the movie, you will ask yourself if you would prefer to live a long but ordinary life or rather to enjoy the "phenomena" and have a very saturated but shorter existence as the protagonist did.
Excellent movie!
The Man from Earth (2007)
Low-cost thriller with Q&A and Bible characters
The story of the movie is based on a very simple but unique idea about a human who was born 14 thousands years ago.
It is a contained, very low-cost thriller based on a fascinating question and answer session done in a very entertaining way and supportive by an excellent cast.
In general, the story of time-traveling for the 14k-year-old man was presented very naturally and believably; that is, until they reached biblical times. The story failed to deliver the right concepts and depictions of Bible characters.
Questioning the myth about the prophet Moses is questioning the Old Testament itself and God itself afterwards, which is very vulnerable for young souls with unstable faith in God.
The same threat comes with Jesus Christ. To deny his spiritual choice, enlightenment and following resurrection is downscaling a power of a human being as a spiritual being, which gives space for brutality, degradation of the human consciousness and the distraction of atheism.
Mr. Nobody (2009)
A bizarre mix of fantasy, sci-fi, drama, romance and spirituality
Mr. Nobody is a bizarre mix of fantasy, sci-fi, drama, romance and spirituality.
In short, it's about a human and his choice, the choice that could change the life whether this or that way.
An old man has problems with his memory. With the help of a psychic, he travels into a number of scenarios of his life. This sets up his future, as he wakes up with different partners and in the different situations.
It could be explained by the theory that there are a few different parallel worlds where everyone has different lives. A little nuance in the situation influences the choice of a human being and the human is getting a new life scenario.
Another concept represented in the movie is "chose your parents" before you're born, so everything is defined by choices.
My favorite part is the futuristic element, because of the sci-fi innovative ideas, which are well-implemented into the movie.
Empire of the Sun (1987)
Amazing historical movie based on a true story.
Main protagonist is a high-society British boy dropped into the harsh environment of Shanghai during WW2 and has to ensure his own survival.
Steven Spielberg delivered a very well made a mixture of the four cultures - Japanese, Chinese, British and American, with behavior patterns and nuances typical to each nationality. The magnificence of the Shanghai metropolis and the tragedy of the civilians facing the cruelty of wartime were remarkable.
However, the most amazing thing in this movie is the boy Jamie Graham (young Christian Bale). Having a rich imagination and wisdom, Jamie tells to his mom that God, in his dream, was playing in tennis, and he assumes that if people can see God in their dreams, perhaps God sees humans in His dreams too.
Jamie not only has his own opinions, but he also has his own vision. While adults, using logic and statistics, calculating the potential outcome of the war on the number of people and weapons, Jamie notes that the war will be won by someone who has COURAGE and that COURAGE is a national value of the Japanese.
Separated from his parents by a cruel destiny, Jamie tries to survive in his new situation. Hunger is a driving force for the boy, who looks for opportunities.
Gut feelings or intuition is helping him escape from a big evil - a Chinese street boy - and to join a smaller one - an American pragmatist called Basie. Giving a portion of the rice to Jamie, Basie has a far-fetched plan - to sell the boy - but his plan failed. Jamie is observing and learning the Art of surviving.
Driven by a strong will to get through, Jamie is taking a University of life from Basie. Death is all around, but Basie is teaching Jim (his nickname for Jamie) to see opportunities even from the dead, whether it be an extra potato or pair of the golf shoes.
At a certain point, Jamie even jumped above his teacher's head and saved lives of a British doctor and his patients.
We see atomic bomb's explosion in front of Jamie's eyes. The boy amazingly compares the flash of it with the snapshot done by God.
The end of the movie is HAPPY - Jamie is reunited with his parents.
This movie a good recommendation to be watched by the whole family, and few times.
Dark City (1998)
Dark movie. Underdeveloped protagonist. Unjustified cruelty.
This movie is about a fight between John Murdoch and aliens, who came to the Earth from outer space for their survival.
The Aliens are presented as entities with supernatural abilities, such as teleportation, hypnosis, and collective consciousness. However, in order to get through, they are hunting for humans' memories. The aliens understand they will benefit from getting a variety of humans experiences. The daily implementation of their strategy is - to freeze humans in the city at 12:00 am sharp, to change an surrounding for each human, to send a doctor to make a new-memory-injection into each human's brain. The doctor is the only one who does these injections. In accordance to the plot, John Murdoch has got the same super power as the aliens. The plot is built around one of the most mysterious matters for human kind - memories. A memory, in the movie, is shown as a liquid, which is a subject to be analyzed and to embed into a human or alien. (In accordance to New age knowledge human's memories of the current life belong to consciousness; the memories of the past lives- to subconscious. The both, consciousness and subconscious, are properties of our soul, and the access to our souls is given only to super power entities, such as God and his assistants).
I agree, that the assumption that a certain city on Earth has been taken under the control of aliens, is making for a thrilling effect. However, the implementation of this idea in Dark City is pretty weak. The aliens' intentions look like an expensive, absurd and improbable project.
In addition, there is an unwarranted violence from them; they have cruelly killed humans, which are valuable resources for them, without any proper reason. Although they were so powerful that they even could control the Sun, they use such a primitive weapon as a knife to murder people. The story could have been much stronger if there had been an explanation as to why John M and only him got the supernatural capabilities.
During the movie, I have been asking myself– what is a targeted audience for this play? Kids? Too much violence. Adults? Too many naive ideas.
Catch Me If You Can (2002)
AMAZING TRUE story with SPIRITUAL CHOICE
The actors Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio have been playing protagonists so naturally as if they were that characters themselves!
I like the very beginning. TV watchers supposed to find out a true Frank among three men. I especially enjoyed the question from the interviewer regarding a CHOICE. The question has been addressed to the first Frank, the fake one.
Unfortunately, Steven Spielberg decided to address to a real Frank a NEW question and missed an opportunity to make the play stronger by giving a "chance" to answer: " I didn't have any choice."
By answering that, the real Frank would have gained an extra dose of mystery, which is always good for a thriller, and he might have also gotten some additional sympathy from the audience. In short, it would have added a few cents to the character development.
That answer would have been a powerful attention grabber for the watchers, who would be waiting for an explanation, and the interpretation would come through the story itself.
Now, why didn't the real Frank have any choice?
This is what we see in the movie:
The boy was thrown into turmoil due to the divorce of his beloved parents. Thrashing between mom and dad, Frank, to avoid an emotional storm, runs away from both of them. After this point, he has been pushed to do what he could for survival, without being given any choice. The teenage boy started to face the cruelty of the materialistic reality - each independent step is costing MONEY.
Already, before his parents' divorce, we observe that Frank had a high self- defense "mechanism" – episode of his transformation into a school-teacher.
Using the inheritance from his father – the "mice pray" and the empty bank checks, Frank, thanks to his cleverness, is gaining success, ensuring his physical and emotional survival.
As a matter of fact, he faces a real CHOICE and hesitation of a decision in the end of the movie. Frank is supposed to decide - whether to continue with the FBI or to shift to the illegal "free style" life.
Shutter Island (2010)
Drama thriller with a karmic aspect
I got a link to Shutter Island (SI) via a review of the movie Lazarus Project, which was said to have similarities to SI. I agree with that from the point of the setting - the both movies (at least partly) are set in psycho clinics. However, the main idea of Shutter Island is close to Machinist (M).
In both movies (SI and M), the protagonist is someone who committed a sin. The sin is generated by taking the life of a human being. In the Machinist, the protagonist, Trevor, hit a little boy with his car and left him, without helping; In SI it's Teddy, who shot his mentally ill wife. Afterwards, as a payment of the sin, the both of them are hit by negative karma, which is reaching them in their present lives.
However, there are significant differences in these stories too.
The protagonist in the Machinist is the only one who pays the spiritual debt. Trevor is a very smart guy and he has been able to hide his crime from the society so that nobody knows about it.
In SI both Teddy and the society are guilty in his family's tragedy and they all pay for that. The sin of the society is not obvious. In fact, the society itself is blaming Teddy for the crime, avoiding to take direct responsibility for its own guilt. The society knew about the mental problems of Teddy's wife. Teddy, actually, has been very busy serving the society at the best of his abilities - he had a very stressful job.
The negative karma is following the society and it is supposed to allocate enormous resources to keep Teddy in an isolated psycho clinic and to improve his mental condition.
Accepting its sin would bring the society to a true cooperation with Teddy and his own identity. Denying the sin is only prolonging a game between them.
Excellent movie!
The Lazarus Project (2008)
A disappointing experience. Nothing to learn
Lazarus project (2008)
I picked this movie up because it was on the list of the movies with Spiritual Awakening. However, it was a disappointing experience.
Intriguing begging with a glimpse of an Enlightening idea failed to be developed into a good plot for the story.
The script was written callously, it lacks basic logic, and the spiritual core totally collapses; there ISN'T anything to learn.
The protagonist (Ben) for a NEW LIFE given (for FREE!) is not only ungrateful for that, but he also becomes a trouble-maker for all people around him, including the members of his own family.
In the NEW life the return home is the obsession of the protagonist.
Ben, who at the beginning of the movie failed to reach any "basic" challenge – neither to find a new job, nor to succeed in his criminal action; at the end of the movie, becomes" illegal without doubt " and appears in front of his family with empty hands and an awful track of records.
It looks like the director of the movie primarily focuses on the commercial success, not on teaching an audience anything.
I rated this movie a generous 3 stars for the beautiful eyes of the protagonist ONLY.
The Machinist (2004)
Wonderful psychological thriller with hidden spiritual awakening
It's a MUST TO WATCH TILL THE END high-quality movie.
Protagonist (Trevor) is pushed to pay out for his sin in his present life. The sin is about hiding a crime done about 1 year ago. The negative karma's payment is coming not only through the suffering of his physical body (he is not capable to get some sleep; having bad anorexia), but also via his psycho (hallucinations; memory loss, etc).
One of the psychological disorders is the protagonist's interaction with Ivan, a brutal unpleasant man, who is not visible for other people. At the certain moment, Trevor realized that the brutal man is himself, his own (imaginarily) transformation, which has happened with him due to his sin.
Realization of this is awakening his memory and causing an internal protest, which is pushing Trevor to announce his crime to the police.
Excellent play of the protagonist by Christian Bale.
The name of the movie is neutral – it's not cold or hot, it's nor giving any hint for the plot, neither misleading. However, it would be perfect if the name could reflect the spiritual core of the story.
The Truman Show (1998)
A cheerful movie with optimism, hope & power of an individual
The Truman Show. Review. IMDb Director: Peter Weir Main role: Jim Carrey
A cheerful movie with optimism, hope & power of an individual. I really enjoyed this tragicomedy with spiritual core! The plot is an allegory of a spiritual reality, which is created for the protagonist ( and read between lines - for every and each human being) in accordance to develop his consciousness, i.e. a soul.
The "one man show" is revealing a huge investment and effort of a Higher World (Director of the show and his crew in the movie) into a human being as well as human's challenges to get rid of the illusion of the tough magnetism of materialistic reality.
Young and charming Jim Carrey is awesome in the role of Truman Burbank. That character is probably the most positive role of Jim Carrey.
The culmination of the movie was when the director of the show dramatically increased the volume of the storm and Truman almost died in the waves. This could be considered as an allegory of a spiritual challenge and Burbank's victory.
The end is open: what will happen the next to this guy?
This movie is a wonderful sample how a very complex spiritual idea could be implemented into entertaining movie. BRAVO!
Der Himmel über Berlin (1987)
I like City of Angels much more
Wings of Desire
I picked up this movie because City of Angels is inspired by it.
What I like the most: a general idea of spiritual entities around human beings; the name of the movie.
What I dislike: pointless angels hanging around without any particular goal or idea.
The Wings of Desire might have been an enjoyable movie for the 80's, but it doesn't look that great anymore. The general dynamics of the movie is pretty slow, with over extended scenes and angels who seem to have nothing to do. Of course, then there is something to do in the sinful human world and
one of them falls!
The end of the plot is quite disgusting – a pensioner is picking up a woman 35-years younger than him. He doesn't even have a single word to tell her - just an action.
in my opinion, the lightening and camera-work are artistically done and I add a credit for that.
I have to admit that the remake, City of Angels, is developed much further as a spiritual awakening movie. But BIG thanks to W of D for innovation, which helped to create the remake!
The Thirteenth Floor (1999)
Entertaining but a shallow movie
"The Thirteenth Floor" is a mix of sci-fi, mystery, spiritual, romance and action. My review is mostly about a spiritual side of the plot.
There are 3 main spiritual ideas in the movie: 1. Transfer of consciousness 2. Creation of virtually programmed world 3. Multi-layered reality
Glued together these thrilling ideas are working entertaining, but not answering the main question: How the developers of the virtual world created a consciousness?
This question is not only non-answered, but it's totally ignored and leading to the number of other doubts: 1. Where the consciousness of the virtual people disappears when an upper-level entities-hosts enter their bodies? 2. How a virtual person remembers what his host has been doing in his body?
And so on
We have to remember that creation of consciousness is a sacral magic with access by only ONE- our Spiritual Father. The gang of three from 1990 could build a virtual world, but could NOT create a consciousness, which means they COULD NOT move their own consciousness into the virtual world.
The love represented in the plot is hastily done too: a woman from the upper layer is cheating her husband with a virtual character. Her explanation of that - the virtual character is nice, that why she falls in love with him.
The movie is ended abruptly without providing any explanation what actually this multilayered "matryoshka" means.
There are randomly dropped spiritually fancy words and phrases in the plot such as déjà vu, "not in this life", soul, etc. However, they are not corresponding any further explanations.
I have to admit that the "vinaigrette" content has been packaged in entertaining way and probably gained a commercial success, HOWEVER, we have to be aware that trash movies could be far more dangerous than trash loans with more unpredictable and dangerous consequences for humankind.
What is a learning message? I guess nobody knows. I m generously rating this movie by 2 stars for entertaining fantasy ONLY.
City of Angels (1998)
Gentle supernatural romance with sad end.
Gentle supernatural romance with sad end.
In a few words, I would describe this movie as "human world vs angels city." An excellent implementation of the story, with intangible matters and thin entities in the movie. Great play of the main actors - Nicolas Cage, Meg Ryan.
The plot is based on the concept of Free Will, which allows any spiritual entity to make its own choice. Such a choice is done by Seth. Originally angel he started to desire to become a human due to his love for a woman. Seth got what he wanted, but his happiness wasn't long lasting. The love story ends tragically, revealing the non- perfect humans world for what it is and pointing out the big risks of having a human' existence.
PS My dying husband was staring at something behind my left shoulder in the same manner as dying Meggie was watching behind Seth's shoulder. I was talking to him and he always looked at my face, but not that day. It was several hours before he was gone. I was curious what the entity was looking like, but I didn't ask. My intention was to encourage him for the transition to another world, but I was afraid that the entity had an awful appearance and I would spoil the last moments of his life by emphasizing on the matter. However, if "it" was looking like Seth- its not terrible at all and this gives me a release :).
Thank you for the wonderful movie helping us to clarify a reality beyond the border!
Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988)
Separate the wheat from the chaff
Wonderful movie with an excellent play by Cassandra Peterson, in the main role of seductive Elvira. It's an action horror comedy about an ambitious, goal-driven entrepreneurial- minded entertainer, who appeared in the town of hypocrites. In this town she is experiencing ups and downs, taking risks, ripping off the masks from the goodies and even facing a real danger. The movie is ending up with Elvira's victory and dreams coming true as a result.
The key learning message in the movie could be presented by the quote from Bible: "Separate the wheat from the chaff".
Thanks for great job!

the way to Light via mud

the way to Light via mud or high-risk taking approach on the way to a DREAM.
Going for a DREAM is a "feature" of the direction towards LIGHT. The main hero has a dream- to become rich. He also has a talent to implement his dream - excellent sales skills. He supposed to make a choice- whether to keep a low-risk approach, continuing to be nice with low probability to achieve his dream or to go for a high risk & sink into the mud with higher probability to catch his dream. He choose the 2nd one. Typically drugs, sex outside of the official marriage and fraud are considered as weapons of Satan. However, in this particular story these "weapons" are just a DETAIL on the way to perfection. Amazing story, amazing implementation., 10 points out of 10!
