Donkey Kong isn't exactly scintillating stuff. You have directional arrows and a jump button, going up ladders and avoiding barrels and flame guys, repeating the same three levels. Give me "Frogger" any day. The hammer's kind of annoying as you can't go up the ladder or jump with it, so it slows you down as you have to wait for it to expire when there's nothing to hit.
Of course this was the starting block for the character and others, as you've got Donkey Kong in "Mario Kart" and "Super Smash Bros" etc and its very own all-time great in "Donkey Kong Country." This however, does not affect my rating.
