Friday Night Football: Thursday Night Football - Round 8 - Adelaide vs Port Adelaide (2024)
Adel vs Port, at Adelaide Oval.
The courageous Rory Sloane hangs up the boots, one of the greats of the football club. Rozee was subbed off with injury last week, but seems to be in the lineup, Aliir still a significant out for Port though. Fogarty with back to back marks and goals to start the game for Adelaide and then Tex goals on the run from 50. Dixon marks and replies, but the Crows kick on. Marshall gets a soft free and goals from outside 50, Adelaide up 8 at quarter-time, with the Power having plenty of field position. Low-scoring, but the Crows still without a blemish. Port holding the man a lot, goalless for the term, Adelaide up 19 at the half. Walker slots one from the angle to start the 3rd and then Rankine slots the banana on the angle. Nothing going Port's way, almost goalless again, with Horne-Francis getting on the board just before 3-quarter time, the Crows lead by 23. Rozee subbed out with the same injury concern. The Power with a barrage, but can't finish. Adelaide fortunate to reply and go on to get the win, by 30 points. The hit-outs were even, Port +10 in the clearances, the Crows with more of the footy and applied 8 more tackles. The Power with 10 more inside 50's, for 3 more scoring shots, but conversion contrast, with Port having a shocker. Rankine best afield, with 5 inside 50's, 2 assists and 3 straight goals. Worrell 22 disposals, 2 contested marks and 8 intercepts. Hinge 25 disposals, 5 tackles, 7 intercepts and 450 metres gained. Soligo 28 disposals, 6 clearances and 10 tackles. For Port, Butters 33 disposals, 7 clearances, 9 inside 50's, 5 tackles, 5 intercepts and 624 metres gained. Horne-Francis 15 disposals, 8 clearances, an assist and 2 goals.
3. (Adel) I. Rankine, 2. (Port) Z. Butters, 1. (Adel) J. Worrell.
NBA on NBA TV: NBA Playoffs - R1G5 - Magic vs Cavaliers (2024)
R1G5 - Magic @ Cavs, Apr 30 2024.
Oh thank god that loud woman's not in the commentary, can watch some of this series. Allen out for Cleveland. Banchero with back to back 3's in the 1st-term, Garland scoring with ease though, has the Cavs up 10 at the quarter break. Mobley with a good block on Carter in the 2nd, Orlando ends the half well, down just 1. I wonder why they play Carter instead of Isaac? Banchero going to work, needs someone to come with him, the Cavs up 5 going into the last. The Magic hit the lead in the 4th with back to back 3's. Mobley with the jam in traffic to put Cleveland ahead late and adds another off a Garland dime. Mobley then with the game-winning block at the basket, playing big down the stretch on both ends. The Cavs take a 3-2 series lead. Orlando shot better from the field, Cleveland better from 3, The Cavs took better care of the ball, with just 10 turnovers, the Magic +4 on the boards. Mobley with 14 points, 13 boards, 2 steals and 2 blocks, just 1 turnover. Garland 23 points, 5 assists and 5 boards. Strus 16 points, 5 assists, 6 boards and 2 steals, just 1 turnover. For the Magic, Banchero an efficient 39 points and 8 boards.
3. (Orl) P. Banchero, 2. (Cle) E. Mobley, 1. (Cle) D. Garland.
12 Strong (2018)
Blah.
12 Strong tells the story of the first Special Forces team deployed to Afghanistan after 9/11; under the leadership of a new captain, the team must work with an Afghan warlord to take down the Taliban.
I don't know, I feel like I'd seen this film 100 times before. For starters the opening, introducing the main characters with their families and purpose had no substance and at no point thereafter did the film engage me at any time either. With a lot of confusion and gunfire, it was just sleep inducing. That's not to put a blight on the real happenings by any means, just the film's weightless and dull. Shooting guns on horses accurately, being an easy target and never getting hit, is also kind of stupid.
The NBA on TNT: NBA Playoffs - R1G5 - Lakers vs Nuggets (2024)
R1G5 - Lakers @ Nuggets, Apr 29 2024.
Denver up 3-1. The Nuggets struggle offensively early, except for Murray. Yet they still lead at the quarter break, by 4. Denver continues to struggle in the 2nd with high turnovers and Davis with another strong 1st-half for the Lakers, but the Nuggets still within 3. Porter never hesitant and making, putting Denver up 2 going into the last. LeBron very aggressive in the 4th, with buckets continuously traded down the stretch. Murray hits the dagger 3 and James ties it up at the line. Murray though with the game-winner once again, to end the series. The Nuggets shot slightly better from the field and significantly better from 3. The Lakers taking better care of the ball, with just 8 turnovers, Denver +4 on the boards. Porter with an efficient 26 points, 2 steals and just 1 turnover. Murray 32 points and 7 assists. Jokic unusually without a free-throw attempt and high turnovers in this one, 25 points, 9 assists and 20 boards, 7 turnovers. Gordon 7 points, 6 assists and 13 boards, 5 offensive. For the Lakers, LeBron 30 points, 11 assists, 9 boards and 4 steals, just 1 turnover. Davis 17 points, 15 boards and 2 blocks.
3. (Den) M. Porter, 2. (Lal) L. James, 1. (Den) J. Murray.
Maya (1989)
Forgotten.
In Maya, an ancient evil awakens in a small Mexican village and many people fall victim to its curse. It is up to a mystical doctor to try and stop this evil power before it is too late.
It's incoherent drivel... like the song by "The Prodigy"... "Voodoo People," thump, thump, thump. The film's lacking of the basics, with no plot, bad stupid characters, poor characterization and just random scenes. Couldn't care about a thing happening, honestly can't remember if I even watched the end or not, not sure. Sultry content included, but doesn't tantalize either. Voodoo people, thump, thump, thump.
NBA on ESPN: NBA Playoffs - R1G4 - Knicks vs 76ers (2024)
R1G4 - Knicks @ Sixers, Apr 28 2024.
The Knicks up 2-1. Melton back in for the Sixers and Robinson out for New York thanks to Embiid's dirty play. Embiid too much for the Knicks on both ends in the opening term, New York managing just 17 points, the Sixers up 10 at the quarter break. Reed a good block in the 2nd, Brunson and Anunoby lift the Knicks to the lead. McBride back to back 3's, Philly up 2 at the half. Maxey a nice and1 in the 3rd and Philly goes on a run. Brunson taking advantage of Harris, as everyone does. Why has Harris been an auto selection undersized 4 forever... DiVincenzo hits back to back 3's, Embiid draws consecutive fouls on Hartenstein, putting on 5 in the term. Brunson with an and1 to end the quarter, New York up 1. Hart with a good block on a Batum stuff attempt, Brunson flopping on everything and whinging when the ref doesn't call it, bit annoying. The Sixers go cold late and the Knicks have the lead. Lowry employs some cheap tactics and savvy almost bringing Philly back, but New York gets the win, taking a commanding 3-1 series lead. Neither team shot well, the Sixers just 35% from the field. Both teams took care of the ball, Philly just 8 turnovers, the Knicks +10 on the boards. Brunson with an efficient 47 points and 10 assists, just 1 turnover. Anunoby 16 points, 14 boards and 3 blocks. Hart 0 of 7 from the field, but 17 boards, 5 offensive and 3 blocks. For Philly, Embiid 27 points, 6 assists, 10 boards, 3 steals and 2 blocks.
3. (Nyk) J. Brunson, 2. (Phi) J. Embiid, 1. (Nyk) O. Anunoby.
Darts: World Championships: 2024 Premier League Darts - Week 13 - Final - Rob Cross vs Luke Littler (2024)

Littler with a 111 checkout to break in the opening leg, then a bang bang combo finish to hold. Luke then comfortably breaks again and takes a 4-0 lead. Cross not in the legs, Littler breaks once more to throw for the match. Rob prevents the first sweep of the Premier League with a break and gets another leg, but Littler wins it 6-2. Claiming king of the hill, for his third night win, sitting clear atop the table. Luke averaging a quality 105 and 54% on doubles, Cross surprisingly averaging 100 still and 33% on doubles. Each player with two 180's apiece, Cross twenty 100+ throws to Luke's sixteen.

2024 Premier League - W13 - SF - van Gerwen vs Cross.
Van Gerwen misses a break opportunity in the opening leg and Rob holds with last dart in hand. Michael continues to miss doubles and Cross breaks. Both players with consecutive misses and van Gerwen breaks after missing his first 12 double attempts. Both continue to miss doubles, Cross breaks. He then follows with a 121 checkout and breaks again to win it, 6-2, potentially keeping his Premier League campaign alive. Cross averaging 98 and 43% on doubles, van Gerwen averaging 90 and a woeful 11% on doubles. Cross with three 180's to van Gerwen's one, Rob eighteen 100+ throws to Michael's seventeen.
NBA on ESPN: NBA Playoffs - R1G4 - Nuggets vs Lakers (2024)
Nuggets @ Lakers, Apr 27 2024.
Denver up 3-0, will they sweep the Lakers again? The Lakers up 5 at quarter break. Porter continues to shoot it well and move without the ball, the Lakers go up double-digits though. Davis with a really strong start again, the Lakers up 13 at the half. LeBron with a good trail block on Murray. Porter with the 3, Caldwell-Pope the steal and transition hoop, the Nuggets cutting into the deficit. Porter with 15 for the term, the Lakers still take an 11-point lead into the 4th though. Don't think they're gonna let this one slip, it's crazy how the refs don't tech up LeBron though, always screaming at everyone. The Lakers get the win on the board to prevent the sweep, comfortably in this one. They're always acknowledging random famous people in the seats for Lakers games, but no mention of Amy Adams next to the Lakers bench... okay get some taste please. The Lakers shot better from field, took a little better care of the ball and were +6 on the boards. Davis with 25 points, 6 assists and 23 boards, just 1 turnover. Russell 21 points, just 1 turnover. LeBron 30 points, 5 boards and 3 steals, 6 turnovers though. Reaves 21 points and 6 assists, just 1 turnover. For Denver, Jokic an efficient 33-point triple-double, with 14 assists and 14 boards, 5 offensive. Porter 27 points and 11 boards. Caldwell-Pope 14 points, 6 of 8 from the field, with 4 steals.
3. (Den) N. Jokic, 2. (Lal) A. Davis, 1. (Den) M. Porter.
The NBA on TNT: NBA Playoffs - R1G3 - Knicks vs 76ers (2024)
Knicks @ Sixers, Apr 25 2024.
New York up 2-0. I don't understand when Philly comes down and puts up a shot without getting the ball to Embiid, unless it's Maxey. I mean they're certainly not gonna win an effort battle verse this Knicks team. Hartenstein making all his floaters. Embiid pretty fortunate not to be ejected on multiple plays. I would've ejected him for grabbing Robinson's legs from the floor like that, with potential for serious injury, regardless of the ejection's significance. New York up 2 at the quarter break. Payne with back to back 3's off the bench. Hartenstein in foul trouble and Robinson limping from Embiid's earlier action, which the commentary never mentions. There are way too many stoppages in this game, DiVincenzo ends the half well, the Knicks up 3. Maxey with a good steal and transition hoop to start the 3rd and lifts the Sixers. Embiid with back to back 3's and Philly as a whole just can't miss in the term, putting up 43 and taking a 13-point lead into the 4th. Can't stand when a player voluntarily jumps out of bounds... i.e. Brunson and the ref gifts them a whistle. Embiid just keeps knocking down 3's, Anunoby with back to back 3's, but the Sixers home comfortably, making a series of it. Both teams shot well, Philly lights out, with much more production from the line. Neither team turned it over, the Sixers +4 on the boards. Embiid with a super efficient 50 points, 19 of 21 from the line and 8 boards, though lucky not be to thrown out and the series over at the same time. Maxey 25 points, 7 assists and 2 steals, with just 1 turnover. Payne three 3's and 2 blocks off the bench. For New York, Hart 20 points, 6 assists and 6 boards, no turnovers. Brunson 39 points and 13 assists.
3. (Phi) J. Embiid, 2. (Nyk) J. Hart, 1. (Phi) T. Maxey.
Darts: World Championships: 2024 Premier League Darts - Week 13 - Semi-Final - Nathan Aspinall vs Luke Littler (2024)
2024 Premier League - W13 - SF - Aspinall vs Littler.
Both strong in their opening games. Littler breaks in the opening leg, Luke misses and Aspinall breaks back. Then Aspinall misses a break opportunity, but gets another and does break. Littler not at his best, Aspinall with a clutch hold last dart in hand. Littler has an 11-darter, Aspinall misses match darts and Littler breaks. Luke really amped up, both miss and Littler holds to take it to a deciding leg. Luke breaks again to win it, 6-5. Littler despite not seeming to play that well, ends with an average of 98 and 43% on doubles, Aspinall averaging 94 and 31% on doubles. Littler with six 180's to Aspinall's two, Nathan with twenty-two 100+ throws to Luke's sixteen.
Darts: World Championships: 2024 Premier League Darts - Week 13 - Michael Smith vs Rob Smith (2024)
2024 Premier League - W13 - M.Smith vs Smith.
Get the feeling being a role model means significantly more to Michael Smith than the other players. Both with comfortable early holds, Smith misses a break opportunity and Cross breaks him instead. Smith hits a clutch 138 checkout to break back. Cross breaks once more though with last dart in hand, to throw for the match. Smith breaks again, but Cross breaks once more to win it, 6-4. Smith with a higher average of 103 and 44% on doubles despite losing, Cross averaging 102 and a quality 67% on doubles. Cross with two 180's to Smith with one, Michael with twenty-six 100+ throws to Cross with twenty-two.

Van Gerwen breaks again to throw for the match and wins it, 6-3. Wright with the better average of 99 and 37% on doubles despite losing, van Gerwen averaging 92 and 46% on doubles. Humphries fortunate to hold and get on the board despite multiple misses. Aspinall on his game, Luke though manages to stay in touch. Nathan hits a clutch 106 checkout to hold and then breaks again to throw for the match. Where he wins it 6-2, in a super strong performance. Nathan averaging a quality 106 and 75% on doubles, Humphries averaging a not too shabby 99, but just 22% on doubles. Darts: World Championships: 2024 Premier League Darts - Week 13 - Gerwyn Price vs Luke Littler (2024)
2024 Premier League - W13 - Price vs Littler.
Coming down the stretch now, here in Liverpool. Where some have fallen well off the pace and will need to put together a run of nightly wins, which includes Price, yet to get a night win. It's all comfortable holds of throw early, until the 6th-leg where Littler gets the first break and he goes on to convincingly win it, 6-3, ending Price's Premier League run and sitting atop the table. Littler averaging 101 and a quality 50% on doubles, Price averaging 96 and 37% on doubles. Despite the high averages, Price with the only 180 of the game, Gerwyn with nineteen 100+ throws to Littler's eighteen.
Saturday Afternoon AFL: Round 7 - Fremantle vs W-Bulldogs (2024)
Frem vs Wb, at Optus Stadium.
Liberatore and Ugle-Hagan remain out for the Dogs, Amiss the Dockers. Jackson kicks the opener for Freo. A good paced high-pressure game, Freo a bit wasteful. Treacy goals after the quarter-time siren, to put the Dockers up 8. Why do they keep playing Walters... A back and forth 2nd-term, Freo up 3 at the half. Serong doing it all, but Walters consistently conceding ground and turning it over unforced. Treacy though slots his third and really flying for the ball, creating opportunities even when he doesn't get it. Bontempelli unusually misses from right in front and Walters continues to give away free-kicks for jumping early at marks. Sam Darcy too tall for the Freo defense, goals after the 3-quarter time siren, to bring the Dogs within 5. Fremantle ahead late and Banfield slots back to back goals to put the Dogs away. Friday Night Football: Round 7 - Port Adelaide vs St Kilda (2024)
Port vs Stk, at Adelaide Oval.
Both sides well beaten last week, Stkilda needing to turn their season around. Soldo out for Port, with Dixon back in. Howard in for the Saints after a lengthy absence. Owens gets multiple soft calls early and kicks the opener for the Saints, Rozee replies. The Power super wasteful and Hill actually puts one through for the Saints from distance, StKilda up 7 at quarter-time. Hill though turns it over for a goal, countering his good work. Bit of a stalemate before the Power go ahead, the Saints need to learn how to score. The umpires start to takeover with consecutive dangerous tackles and penalties. Mark interference... just making up rules now are we, wasn't an arm chop, push or front-on contact. Poor defense by the Saints, Rioli dancing around two players. Port up 10 at the half, with Dixon slotting a late goal. Aliir subbed out, Dixon bananas another on the angle. Membrey goals from 50 and then Sharman outside 50. The Saints winning the clearances in the 3rd and Port's defense looking vulnerable, the Power up 13 at 3-quarter time. Rozee off with injury concern. Hard to win without scoring with the soft frees they pay for shots on goal. Wines puts the Saints away, Port home by 10 points. The NBA on TNT: NBA Playoffs - R1G2 - Pelicans vs Thunder (2024)
R1G2 - Pelicans @ Thunder, Apr 24 2024.
Oklahoma up 1-0. Valanciunas killing it early offensively with New Orleans entire score, but it doesn't look like they're going to adjust anything defensively, which gave up so many open 3's. Holmgren hitting those 3's early, which I said they were fortunate to get away with in game 1. Gilgeous-Alexander gets going and the Thunder get out to a double-digit lead and up 13 at the quarter break. Dort knocking the 3's too. Valanciunas coming out to cover Holmgren on the 3 doesn't work either, as he just gets taken off the dribble, the margin remains at 13 at halftime. McCollum non-existent offensively and a liability defensively, the Thunder extend the lead to 18 going into the last. Oklahoma blowing it out further and home comfortably, as expected, to take a 2-0 series lead. The Thunder shooting lights out, 59% from the field and 48% from 3, the Pelicans just 27% from 3. Oklahoma taking care of the ball with just 8 turnovers, while New Orleans had more turnovers than assists, the Thunder +2 on the boards. Holmgren with an efficient 26 points, 7 boards and 2 blocks. Gilgeous-Alexander an efficient 33 points, 5 assists and 2 steals. Jalen Williams 21 points, 7 assists and 5 boards. Dort on Ingram, with four 3's. For New Orleans, Jones an efficient 18 points.
3. (Okc) C. Holmgren, 2. (Okc) S. G-A, 1. (Okc) Jal. Williams.

Key players in Taylor, Greene and Coniglio out for GWS, McInerney and Bailey for Lions. Brown kicks the opener for the Giants from 50 and then Tom Green from 55, before Cameron gets Brisbane on the board. Jones with super quickness in his debut, goals on the run, the Giants up 11 at quarter-time. It's all Brisbane early in the 2nd, Rayner with two goals. Brown goals from 50 again though and Riccardi likewise to put the Giants back ahead. Andrews thwarting so many GWS attacks. Neale probably shouldn't be getting chippy with the Giants, won't end well. Kelly goals after the halftime siren, the Giants up 8. GWS run it from end to end for a run-in goal and start to kick away. Briggs doing what he likes against Fort, Brisbane goalless for the term, the margin blown out to 38 at 3-quarter time. Brown kicks another from 50 and Perryman likewise. A dominant display by the Giants, home by 54 points. The Giants won the hit-outs, were +4 in the clearances, had much more of the footy and still with 4 more tackles applied. They had 5 more inside 50's, for 7 more scoring shots and had good conversion. Tom Green best afield, with 37 disposals, 17 contested, 7 clearances, 5 tackles, a goal and an assist. Kelly 25 disposals, 6 inside 50's, 5 tackles, 5 intercepts, 491 metres gained and a goal. Brown and Riccardi 3 straight goals apiece, most from outside 50. Friday Night Football: Thursday Night Football - Round 7 - Anzac Day - Essendon vs Collingwood (2024)
Ess vs Coll, at the MCG.
Wright back in for Essendon, after his long ridiculous suspension. Langford kicks the opener for the Bombers, then Jakey goals from distance on the angle. Stringer dominating the clearance, Essendon with a blistering start, Collingwood can't get the ball. A poor kick-out turnover by Martin gets the Pies on the board. Wright with his second big contested mark and converts. He kicks another from 50 from a soft free. Durham and Caldwell with rundown tackling once more. Hill a tough matchup, need help on him, sets up Elliott for the goal, the Bombers lead by 19 at quarter-time. Stringer misses from right in front to start the 3rd. Mihocek gets a gift from the umpire, the Pies even it up and even hit the lead with Nick Daicos taking full advantage of the advantage rule time and again, Essendon up 1 at the half. Elliott with the skyscraper mark and goal. Schultz converts the set-shot to put Collingwood ahead late in term, up 1 at 3-quarter time. Josh Daicos goals from distance on the angle to start the 4th. Martin moved forward, giving the Bombers a lift and Langford slots his fourth. The Pies respond, before Mihocek has back to back shanks on goal. Langford misses and it's tied with under a minute to play and a draw, the result. Both teams were poor on set-shots for the day, Durham though has quickly become an on-ball leader for Essendon. The Bombers won the hit-outs and dominated the clearances +17, with much more of the footy. Essendon with just 2 more inside 50's though and equal scoring shots. Parish best afield, with 25 disposals, 5 clearances, 7 inside 50's, 5 tackles, 549 metres gained, an assist and a goal. Merrett 31 disposals, 6 clearances, 5 inside 50's, 9 tackles and 522 metres gained. Langford 14 disposals, 2 contested marks and 4 goals. McGrath with a solid job on Hill, having 31 disposals, 10 intercepts and 442 metres gained. Jakey and Martin excellent in patches as well. For the Pies, Moore 23 disposals, 2 contested marks and 12 intercepts. Nick Daicos 27 disposals, 8 inside 50's, 6 intercepts, 625 metres gained, a goal and an assist.

Nights in Rodanthe (2008)
Needed more.
Nights in Rodanthe isn't entirely empty, but it's most definitely without a film-worthy plot and not the most engaging of film's. Not sure even the characters who've made this rare connection, connect.
The ending of more despair is to emphasize the most important thing is the mending of relationships between the mother/daughter and father/son, which the main character Adrienne states in the film. Which I feel is the part that actually works, which the reviews here seem to be missing, yet for some reason are still giving such positive feedback. That those around us inspire us to better ourselves, I assume, I dunno.
Late Night with the Devil (2023)
Doesn't bring anything to the table.
In Late Night with the Devil, a live television broadcast in 1977 goes horribly wrong, unleashing evil into the nation's living rooms.
Unfortunately it mostly disappoints. Taking too long to start, going on and on about a fictional show and host. You add a TV-set and other elements, but at the end of the day you've still just got the "Paranormal Activity" type flashing of lights/flickering nonsense and random deaths and such, not too enthralling. You actually lose the atmosphere you would otherwise get by doing it this way. I did however like the expert skeptic, doing hypnosis to prove his case.
Friday Night Football: Wednesday Night Football - Round 7: ANZAC Eve - Richmond vs Melbourne (2024)
Rich vs Melb, at the MCG.
Richmond injury plagued. Van Rooyen kicks the opener for the Demons, Dusty misses an easy set-shot. The Tigers winning field position for no result, with Melbourne intercepting with ease. Lefau finally gets Richmond on the board late in the 1st-term, before Fritsch converts the set-shot to have the Dees up 6 at quarter-time. Very low-scoring game, surprising the Tigers are still with them, up 1 at the half. Melbourne start to put some score on the board in the 3rd, up 23 at 3-quarter time. Fritsch a good finish, conversely Morris Rioli skill's not up to scratch. The Dees home comfortably in the end, by 43 points. The hit-outs were even, Melbourne +7 in the clearances, with more of the footy. The inside 50's even, the Dees with 5 more scoring shots and good conversion. Lever best afield, with 26 disposals, 2 contested marks and 15 intercepts. Gawn 23 disposals, 4 contested marks, 26 hit-outs, 5 clearances and a goal. May 23 disposals, 22 effective, 6 intercepts and 460 metres gained. Fritsch and Pickett good as well with 2 goals apiece.
