As far as pilots go, I found this lukewarm at best. The few familiar faces in the ensemble cast (Swan, Leung, Rheon) didn't do much to elevate this episode much above the pedestrian, unfortunately.

Action? Nothing much to speak of. Plot/intrigue? Rudimentary. Writing/dialogue? A catalogue of "You-should-have-been-mine" and "How-very-dare-you" clichés. CGI/FX? Embarrassing. Queen Medusa's hair looks like it was copied and pasted from Jessica in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?", Gorgon's hooves look like he picked up some theater prop hairy pants at the dollar store, Iwan Rheon stars as Ramsay Bolton starring as Maximus and proceeds to "Reek" the entire population of Attilan, and our parting impression of the mighty Black Bolt is essentially as a mute in a suit, and a hapless one at that. Lockjaw is the Royal Family's teleporter, but serves mainly as comic relief.

Being a fan of Marvel doesn't save this from being dead in the water. It feels like various studio execs are simply milking Marvel for all it's worth, adapting any team or hero possible to the screen in order to turn a profit, with scant regard for their craft. I'll slog through this season, but with exceedingly low expectations, and am unsurprised to learn that it never made it to a Season 2.

Rushed, but a good start
SyoKennex29 October 2017
Advertised for a while, Inhumans finally hit the UK television screens recently, and excited, I decided to settle down and watch it. I grabbed the pop corn, I cracked open a can of Coke, and cuddled up in my Marvel thermal pyjamas to start watching it. I was prepared for disappointment, following how lacking and political Civil War had been, and how boring Agents of Shield became after a few seasons, and was waiting for Marvel to let us down. This was an absolutely spectacular start to Inhumans, and I'm really glad I went in expecting less, because I was given more on top of more.

Marvel have produced quality television with Inhumans, following the story of the Inhumans, scared to go to Earth, banished away from the planet for their own safety. Within the first episode, we see the backstory of this, and how the Inhumans live.

I do think however, this moved quite fast. It felt rushed, with the background, and then all the events happening within the first episode of the first season of the show, but there is potential within it. I suspect the director and producer just wanted to get as much out in backstory and current events as they could to move the story line along and make something gripping, and to pull people in; however this could have been done in less quantity than it was. I felt too breathless trying to keep up.

However, we are shown some very strong characters. Black, Asian, female; they're all in the mix and looking at some of Marvel's mistakes in the past, this is wonderful to see now. A lot of work has been put into this show, and I'm extremely excited to see how the characters grow and develop. There's a lot of potential for development, and although some of the characters seem very two dimensional, there's room there, there is potential. I hope they just don't screw that up.

Although this doesn't follow the comics, this is really well done, and I'm definitely excited to see more.

Kinda interesting
marcotiero5 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It's kind of interesting, but feels a bit rushed. Should have took more time to introduce the characters. Staging the coup so quickly when it could have been handled better. Give the villain a few episodes to gradually emerge and stage a coup. After all, Palpatine took his time in Star Wars and is one of the greatest villains in cinema.

The story itself is nothing original, but the unique characters are what makes a show like this different, Agents of Shield is one of the best TV shows, and what they did with the diverse characters was fantastic television.

I'll be interested to see where the show goes from here, as it's rarely easy to get a show right from the first episode.

It's better than the score, but..

Warning: Spoilers
If they are trying to make Maximus out to be the bad guy, they're not doing a very good job. He's been pretty justified in all the actions he's taken, plus he's not been killing everyone willy-nilly. There's been no definable bad guy except for that girl that's loyal to maximus. I suppose we will see the bad guy in him when he gets to earth. All that hate about humans because he is one, we will see him kill them without much thought.

One of the worst shows that I've ever seen
ejramirezf10 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
First I would like to admit that my interest in this show was divided, half of my interest was set on Serinda Swan (watched her on Ballers and think she is mighty fine) and the other half of my interest was on a promising show (without knowing much of the comics). I just wanted to watch something sci-fi like The Orville or Star Trek Discovery (actually while I wait for the episodes to air)

I couldn't believe the disappointment since the first 15 minutes of the show and I wanted to shut it down. But just to be fair I saw the whole chapter. My comments:

-Terrible wardrobe and costumes (almost as bad as R.R green lantern's cgi suit) -Awful narrative and acting (The acting on the guy that can weigh every outcome, karnak, is really awful, not that smart to be funny) -Seriously Ramsay Snow/Bolton? Seriously? Don;t get me wrong I think he did a spectacular job on GoT but you can't repeat the formula just like that and expect the same results. Shame because on my eyes at least he was a promising actor. At least they could've shaved his head or given him a different look. -CGI everywhere and bad CGI actually the dog was the best CGI of the show and really when a massive teleporting dog is the best CGI of the show, boy are you in trouble.

Not bad
kallamis29 September 2017
Is it the comic book? No, it is not. But then neither is anything else that is being done, either by Marvel or DC. The whiners and complainers are just that. Whining because it doesn't fit an impossible standard. Lets be honest, no one on Earth is as good looking as the comic book versions, or as finely built. This is a good show. Ignore the losers that complain, and just enjoy it like you are supposed to do. If you want only comic book methods and concepts, then stay with the comic book. If you want to enjoy The Inhumans, then this is the place to do it. It's not a 10, but it is definitely above an 8, so once again, ignore the losers that do nothing but complain because every little detail isn't to their insane and ignorant standards, as no comic book adaption of anything ever will be exact. Look at the FF. When they started it was cosmic rays. We learned that would not do such things over time, so it got changed. Same here. Enjoy folks. We sure did.

The warnings about the badness of this show were not exaggerated....
jfkennichnich30 September 2017
Just watched the first episode. The show has the wrong title... It should be called "Marvel's Wimpy Greek God Stand-in Wannabes". Bad dialogue, shitty special effects, not at all like the other Marvel stuff... I only gave this show two points since there are actually a few worse shows on TV at the moment (You know who you are, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow...) My advice: Cancel, NOW...

Not as bad as everyone is saying.
Elewis119530 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Maybe people who read the comics have a different perspective. I read Marvel growing up through college, but mostly X-Men and Avengers. I barely read an inhumans comic so I don't know them that well, other than the basics.

I found the characters and the situation believable enough. They're trying to avoid contact with humans and they have their tradition. Maxiumus was believable as the envious brother plotting for leadership and rule. Black Bolt was sufficiently somber and genuine enough. It's hard to act an entirely non speaking role. In comics that's less of an issue, cause they can put in what he's thinking or write down what others think of him. TV doesn't allow for thought bubbles, so he's going to be silent the entire show. That might not work.

The show portrays some of the sacrifice of leadership, especially in the Medusa character and even implies some unjust cast system which makes Maximus, in addition to his manipulative ways and cruel actions, a tiny bit sympathetic.

Ultimately, shows like this often work or don't work if there's good chemistry between the characters. Gorgon is the most likable of the bunch and Crystal is fun too as a young almost teenager like contrast to the seriousness of everyone else. Individual characters stand out as mostly OK, with the possible exception of Karnak who I didn't find interesting at all, but I don't see the chemistry between them. That's probably the biggest weakness.

I still give the show a weak 8 (or a strong 7). It's a super hero show that's trying to tell it's own story while also being true to the characters that opens to significant drama. They had to make lockjaw into a "stupid dog" to separate everybody, but I can live with that.

I'll definitely keep watching and it's off to a fine start.

was this TV show a mistake? mu soul hurts after episode 1
louiethepitt2 October 2017
OMG guys... I really was waiting for a long time for a live adaptation of this Marvel ethnic group...and wow It was such a let down....let me give you the positive from my point of view. 1-Attilan looks as good as it gets...a very good interpretation. 2-Black Bolt 3-Lockjaw 4-Crystal 5-the sky and the moon look good 6-some of the scenes look incredible and then the rest looks awful

as you see I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel for good stuff to talk about.

the bad: -the first thing you note immediately is that the Inhumans (the population of the city) look awfully Human...very little to non genetic mutations visible in the general population.

-the whole passe of the series is painfully slow and boring guys.

-the primary characters are way off from the source material characters...starting with Karnak that for no reason at all looks nothing like Karnak and in this Alternative Universe has become an Asian Inhuman...Gorgon nothing from his personality remains and now also for no reason his is a Black Inhuman, Triton that should be this Merfolk looking creature now looks like an Asian but with Green skin and no hair...he is by far the worst...and Medussa's hair...omg it deserves an aword for wort interpretation of the year...the whole dialog puts you to sleep in a coma like state...it is the worst interaction of Characters in Comic Book live adaptations so far...I really can't remember one that was worst than this

at the end each episode feels like a chore a painful slow boring chore that stretches and drains you from the will to slap your face in order to wake up from the trance...it is a shame this first episode.

verdict...skip this episode guys...cross your fingers that episode 2 gets better.

I really wanted to love this show, being a huge Marvel fan, but was very disappointed
darkkoiblis3 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This show is not up to MCU standards. The special effects for the dog Lockjaw were comical, not realistic whatsoever. The legs for Gorgon was completely laughable. Triton looked like a mutation that went wrong, and did not act like the fearless warrior like in the comic series. He was a wimp. Black Bolt one of the most powerful beings in the MCU taken out by some patrol cops. Really? And he accidentally whispers pain when being hurt. That is NOT the real Black Bolt that has been in plenty of battles without making a sound. Plus he can fly. Why did he just not fly away? And he is using American sign language, but has no idea of the Earthly world? Black Bolt does NOT use sign language. The conversations were extremely bad writing, and wooden. They made it like that they had no idea what this world of streets and cars were. What happened to the cocoons? I really wanted to love this show, and I'm a huge Marvel fan, but this was bad. Let's not even get into the amateur cosplay costumes. I hate the quality of the DC shows. They were written for kids, and this is worse. They need to fire that Buck guy. He's horrible.

Conheçam...Os Inumanos
foxbrvar4 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Inumanos (2017)

Series

1st Season

Episode One - Conheçam...Os Inumanos

They tried to reprise the rivalry between Thor and Loki, but they forgot a big factor, what makes this rivalry very interesting is Tom Hiddleston's performance and charisma, something that neither of these two actors have, it wasn't the script for Thor 1 and Thor 2 that played Loki, a great villain, and yes, the good performance and a lot of charisma from the actor, in fact the first two Thor films are very bad, what saves the film is Loki.

I didn't care about any of the characters, it doesn't matter to me, maybe just Crystal, because the actress is very pretty, but other than that, I'll watch it just because it's just a few episodes.

The scene with Medusa losing her hair reminded me of a Brazilian soap opera that I don't remember the name of.

There are so many Slow-Motion scenes, which is not normal for something from Marvel, that I thought I was watching something by Jack Snyder (not a compliment).

Previous Series: Os Defensores (2017)

Episode one of the first season of the Inumanos Miniseries watched on May 4, 2024.

Rating: 4/10.

Behold... The Inhumans
Prismark1026 October 2017
As a newbie who is not really into Marvel comics or DC comics apart from the films released in the cinema. The opening episode had me lost already, so what are the difference between Inhumans and the X-Men? The first episode kind of assumes you are a comic book nerd rather than a casual viewer.

Inhumans live in a secret stronghold of Attilan on the dark side of the moon which appears to have a rigid social structure including slavery for those without special powers.

The early scenes include a coming of age ceremony as young people expose themselves to Terrigen crystals to discover their special abilities.

Black Bolt (Anson Mount) is the King of the Inhumans who does not speak because of his powerful voice which is destructive. Medusa (Serinda Swan) is his wife and the Queen of Attilan. Her red hair is flowing and strong and can be manipulated.

The villain is Maximus (Iwan Rheon) Black Bolt's brother who seemingly does not have any special powers but has loyal followers as he schemes to overthrow his brother.

Luckily for the Royal family, Lockjaw is a giant dog has the power to teleport and takes Black Bolt and others to Earth.

Maximus managed to get rid of his rival brother rather easily in the first episode but it was just not gripping. There is some location shooting in Hawaii, there was plenty of CGI but it really is a Dallas/Dynasty type soap opera with superheros.

This show feels rushed and soulless definitely subpar for a Marvel show
teacupalice29 March 2022
I am a big nerd of both Marvel and DC comics, I loved the stories about the Inhumans and how often tie in with other heroes even though they keep mostly to the background with Attilan being its own separate world distinct and separate from the main one. Other reviews said "what's the difference between Inhumans and X-men" well the difference is very easy to spot, the X-men are mutants while the Inhumans were born in a more similar fashion to Spider-man, they are basically meta-humans usually in their stories born at the Dawn of time similarly to Vandal Savage from the DC comics. The show clearly didn't go this route and instead decided to set their base immediately on the moon with everything already settled in, this definitely gave non-hardcore fans a headache and of course it confused them. They decided to explain their story through mindless exposition and flashback which were as boring and as flat as the characters themselves. Even Black Bolt came out as boring on this show, Black Bolt which is one of the most compelling and interestingly complex characters in the Marvel universe, not to say one of the most powerful too. I was truly disappointed by this show and to no surprise it failed on practically every front, it was a train wreck and I'm glad it didn't find its way to the main universe. I hope they'll try again with another portrayal of the Inhumans, this time around a decent one.
