Warning: Spoilers
Violet wants to have a normal family dinner to impress her soon to be mother in law. You have to feel sorry for Christy, and despite what one review said, Violet was not put on the back burner. Christy tries to cook up a great Jewish dinner only to get it bashed by the boyfriend's mother. Despite turning off all phones, that doesn't stop people from bargain in. One funny moment is when Bonnie's "boyfriend" comes over and talks loud, making embarrassing comments everyone hears. Linda Lavin is great at playing the mother who makes wise remarks. Just a very funny dinner.
I gave it 9 stars because I can't stand the Violent character. She sees her mother is trying and still has a fit. I have also noticed the only time she comes over or speaks to her mom is when she wants something. She knows her mom wants her in her life, so Violent uses that to meet her wants. I am glad Linda Lavin, put her in her place in this episode. A good solid 9.

The fact that Linda Lavin wasn't nominated for an Emmy nor a Golden Globe speaks volumes for network TV and how it's overlooked.
Lavin's performance was the funniest guest spot on TV in over 10 years. Watch this episode...I dare you not to laugh.

Linda Lavin steals the show!

What to say about Linda Lavin? She's wonderful in this episode. To the point where she actually steals the entire episode from that talented cast and in my opinion this was the funniest episode of the entire series and I've seen them all. It's definitely my favorite.
Someone mentioned that Linda Lavin should've been nominated for an Emmy award and I completely agree and the fact that she wasn't is just sad. I wish they had brought her back for even more episodes besides the one other that they did later in the series because she would've been a fabulous addition to this cast.
Do see this if you haven't as it's the best of the best!

I hate this episode

I love the series and I'm happy that the kids are eventually just written out of it but honestly.... This episode literally shows you why her daughter (violet) hates her. She asked for one family dinner and she put her daughter on the back burner to help friends with minimal problems. Then it all turns out okay because the mom is helping people. Just bad writing.
