Musings on the Dutton Crime Family
billsoccer3 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A milder season finale then in the past, with mixed messages about what's coming. Beth goes full crazy and Rip shows his understanding. Jimmy returns from Texas, impresses his mates, and returns to Tx. Will he be cut out of the series or become an occasional special segment? Jamie finally handles the accusations against him. The protester gets sentenced and John leans on the Judge. Casey ends his ritual and decides - ?

Does all this bode well for future seasons? No idea, but I hope they tone down the craziness. The series seems to have lost its bearings this year.

KIND OF ANTI-CLIMATIC
dollfacecrafter4 January 2022
THIS SEASON WAS NOT the best one, the Kayce story was just dumb, really dumb, and his wife needs some self confidence, she is so jealous all the time. Boring. I love Beth, I know she is evil and horrible to people, but it fits and her and RIP fit also. I heard that Jimmmy and Ranch 6666 is getting a spin off series, so we will see more of that I am sure. Lloyd is just plain weird and the girls need to go, they suck. Hopefully next season willl be better.

You must stand on a cliff of death to understand your purpose in life

Warning: Spoilers
Solid 9 for the Kayce storyline alone, incredibly beautiful and well acted. I am from Florida so don't know firsthand, but Kayce's quest seemed so deep, poignant and very Montana. Cuts right to the bone. Native American people are so insightful and wise, and understand the connection between man and the land better than anyone. Also loved the use of animals during Kayce's experience.

Jimmy is a little boring, but the character is very authentic and the actor plays him well. I like Summer, there is something about her that eases John's loneliness, I would expect to see more of her next season.

Wes Bentley's acting is superb, the scene with his biological father was heartbreaking, even though predictable.

Other than that, I thought it was funny that John ordered salisbury steak for lunch and then sits down to a big steak at dinner, so Montana!

Epic Drama

Greetings from Lithuania.

"Grass on the Streets and Weeds on the Rooftops", a 10th and final episode of season 4 was a solid one. The overall season was heavy on drama, and some not worked, but overall i can only say that i still enjoying this show very much. I will continue watching it when next season will come.

Amazing
richellenls25 February 2022
I absolutely don't understand all the negative reviews on final episode whereas the majority of the reviews seemed to be about the entire 4th season, not just the final episode!! (Now my review is almost the same) At any rate I thoroughly enjoyed the whole season, which I think a lot is based on the fact that I simply just love all the characters!! I looooove Beth & Rip. I love pink hair! I love Tate!!! This show is more character than action slash I appreciate the Native American reminder/culture!!!!

I feel the negative reviewers need to go watch something else instead voicing their weird entitled expectations. Ergo if you dislike it so much THEN STOP WATCHING!!

BTW bobcabobb stop your endless reviews with a generic review rating of 6.

The end!

The Iconic Beth Dutton
Love_Life_Laughter20 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Not since Rene Russo's sexy, articulate and smart character in The Thomas Crown Affair have we seen a woman privileged and wily enough to play and sometimes even win at what is 99% a man's game - big business money, high stakes finance and ownership, and the moxy to take it all on. Openly amoral, sexual, anti-polite, crafty and unapologetic, she knows who she is and what and who is important to her, and does not waver from protecting them, even if she disagrees with what they value and why. Marvelously brought to life by actor Kelly Reilly, her character provides a great catharsis for the rest of us gently reared and (overtly) compliant women as she sizzles on the screen. Mae West would approve. Cringe-worthy, violent, and somehow very real.

Top Notch Writing
allweinz6 May 2022
Let's be honest, while Yellowstone is a very compelling, beautifully shot and well acted series, the character choices and motivations are often unrealistic and pretty ridiculous. Plus, the most interesting character flaws and themes aren't always explored as deeply as they could be. Kinda subjective of course.

However, I would argue that this 4th season is actually the most well written and grounded of the series, despite filming difficulties. In fact, I thought this finale was one of the best of the series, mainly because it really explored the main characters' flaws in a very coherent way while moving the plot forward. Not to mention it had some of the most powerfully written scenes between them. It also didn't feel to me like there was difficulty juggling the various storylines, unlike most of the series. The pacing was excellent and the direction was some of the best I've seen in the series. It makes me wonder about and look forward to the next season.

Other thoughts: Piper Perabo's performance is outstanding, and Jennifer Landon's character work as Teeter is phenomenal.

I find Jimmy to be the most realistic and relatable main character in the series. Jefferson White is underrated and has given the most consistent yet evolving performance out of anyone in the show. He doesn't even look like he's acting; when he responds to what's happening around him, or when he has a realization, you can see him process information like a real life human being. His moments are some of the most powerful and I hope to see more of his journey.

Like I said before , don't expect cops and robbers , murder mayhem , lost keys to the Porsche.

Warning: Spoilers
Season 4 gets wrapped up and was entirely filmed in 2020.

All over Montana , such as Darby , Hamilton , Missoula , Helena , this season was filmed , well fans of Montana and the extra's used from these places , you get thumbs up for reality.

Summer Higgins needs a new profession cause it looks like she will be picking up the trash and weeds along the highway for at least 5 years, kinda lucky when you have a John Dutton as a friend.

Jamie's real dad put into perspective by Beth gets taken out , removed by Jamie at his home along the brook , you could say he did it for his real family the Duttons.

Jimmy says goodbye to the Dutton Ranch , says goodbye to all his fellow ranch hands (great scene) . Floyd and Jimmy was a positive highlight to watch , said something about maturity , Floyd is definitely a father to Rip and now Jimmy , senior wrangler can always be the best friend to a youngster including the kid.

Beth , what can you say about her , she is the back bone of getting things done , especially in communication , her way of expressing what needs to be done and wow she travelled a lot of miles in this season finale , especially waiting for Jamie down by the Wyoming border where the train station is located , wait hold it right there, snap .

Listen to the wolf and she will lead you to two paths , omg Kaycee you did not listen and now looks like in season 5, Monica may have problems with her pregnancy , silly man the wrong path was danger and the right path was Murdocks for a really nice winter jacket.

Well looks like Beth is now Mrs Beth Dutton Wheeler , yes she and Rip gets hitched at the ranch in her golden sparkly dress , sweet , wait i mean nice.

There was a scene in which the kid calls Beth , mama and she said your mama is dead like Beth's , well Beth gave him a home and a job , lighten up , call him son , Rip likes him more then earlier and so does you , you cant have kids , you inherited the boy , call him son. Do a Jamie adopt him .

Season 5 in the eyes of fans should be it , Taylor Sheridan did an amazing job writing Montana Ranch life of today but in all fairness end Yellowstone in a positive fashion.

Bad plot at end.
saner_place5 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So Beth is going to blackmail and control Jamie with (inconclusive) evidence that Jamie killed his dad? To protect the family and John?

What is she going to do? Go to the police with "here is a picture Jamie disposing of his dad"?

Lemme see."OK Miss, where did this occur?"

Is she going to take them to the dump site where they will find the dozens of Yellowstone skeletons and ballistic matches to half the guns on the Dutton Ranch?

Big FACEPALM.

Damn good episode 10, season 4! Just too bad the rest of season 4 was so mediocre and uneventful!
jeersNcheers3 January 2022
I don't understand the low-ish reviews for this 10th episode! Seems like people are rating the entire 4th season, rather than just this 10th episode. I'm willing to focus on just this finale, which was: OMG, and Oh My Goodness, OH SO VERY, VERY GOOD! I don't know who the Writer was for this episode, but please hire her/him and fire the idiot(s) that wrote the other 9 episodes!

PS I love Will Patton, and he did a fantastic job on Yellowstone, but I'm glad...

Started strong then faded each episode culminating with disappointing finale
jasonscott-104407 January 2022
Love me some Yellowstone and was excited for the direction of the series and was pumped after the first episode and then.... It just got worse and made less sense- wtf is this Kayce subplot and the name of the episode is based on the protestor plotline, which can go away and take Kayce's wife with it.

Was jumbled and the final episode was predictable and didn't really have me "wanting" season 5 to start. It's sad when the Jimmy storyline was the most interesting - and can Beth get off the whole Jamie destroyed my life - didn't she ask for his help and you are telling me she had no idea what they were doing?? Just seems too forced and overdramatic at this point.

Hopefully they turn things around.

You really let me down Taylor Sheridan.
avalosraul3 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This whole season was a massive disappointment. There was no narrative or real plot. You left so many questions and the tone was so dull. I love Yellowstone but this season was tough to get through. John and company were completely separated from kayce as if he is not even related to him anymore. Why have Garrett Randall and johns encounter in the diner with threats thrown just for Jamie to be the one to kill him. There was no satisfaction and no excitement. Season 4 was a 1883 and 6666 promotion. Taylor has just given up and turned this to a soap. Focused on other projects trying to run 4 shows at once. I am waiting for season 5 with hopes we might see the REAL Yellowstone again.

It wasn't as exciting as the previous finale but thank god there were no huge cliffhangers. It was still a great episode and it resolved some plots hopefully we don't have to wait too long for season 5.

The weakest season but very enjoyable

Warning: Spoilers
This is my less favorite Yellowstone season, but he have many great moments, i didn't care about Jimmy and his texas girlfriend, like who cares about that, the fight beetwen the singer and Lloyd i don't care neither, the hippie girlfriend of Dutton who cares, Jimmy and his father that's interesting but little screen tine for that's story, Rio and Beth marriage was wholesome but overall not a big fan of this 10 episodes of season 4, i still watching season 5.

"That will be in, what, 75 years" (dialog)
A_Different_Drummer17 April 2022
The haters don't get it. This was never intended to be a typical end of season episode. This is Taylor Sheridan putting on a writing clinic to show the world what he can do. There is more punch per pound here (script wise!) than any other episode in the series. Sometimes a man has to do what a man has to do. This is Sheridan's signature 'sode. He is taking a bow that he has earned.

All the naysayers
robertdalton-4362128 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ive seen a lot of naysayers commenting on here about this season. I guess a lot of people are only happy if there's a lot of contention and blowing things up but there's more to a good movie or television show or episode than that.

For three and a half seasons we've seen a wishy washy Jimmy hanging on to Mia thinking that was love and she's only making him into what she wants, not caring if he ends up possibly paralyzed. She's addicted to the rodeo, not caring about him.

Bravo to Jefferson White for portraying Jimmy from the young, struggling youth, to the man he was meant to be. Seeing how he handled himself, carried himself, was a wonder to behold. He made the best choice was in returning to Texas. Down there, he's has proven himself as an equal. In Montana, he will still be seen as dippy Jimmy. Yes, they are amazed at how he's changed but he will always be seen as the dippy kid. He also escapes the crap that revolves around that ranch and it would darken his soul.

The best part of the episode is he made the right choice in choosing Emily over Mia. She was happy with how Jimmy is and not like Mia who only wanted him around if he fit the mold SHE wanted. No person should ever stay with a person who won't accept them as they are!

Boring, Weak and a lack of creativity in every episode.
IMDBelievable4 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Let me first preface by saying that the first three seasons of this show were absolutely riveting and on point. The shows writing, acting, intensity and cinematography put it on par with any show on Television right now. Season 4 I expected to be the best season to date however right from the start it was a let down.

My issue immediately was how easily all the Dutton's survived that attack and recovered, John Dutton on a horse within months??? We needed a major death, Game of Thrones like balls where the writer takes the heart and rips it right out of you. Beth dying would have been unbelievable and the most realistic scenario considering how the explosions happened. It would have made the character so vulnerable and pulled them even closer together. This would have opened the door to see Rip become a mad man and we could have continued the story line with Josh Holloway as a perfect villain, which by the way what a wasted storyline...they could have carried that into Season 4 and built up such intensity.

Now to the lazy writing and frustrating character arcs:

Jaime: He has become so pathetic and weak. He is so much stronger and sharper than this. He's as smart as any of them, write him a better angle. Your wasting all he can be.

Kaycee: Once again, another waste. WHERE ARE YOU GOING WITH THIS TAYLOR?! Kaycee is arguably the 2nd lead on this show, he needs to be more involved.

Beth: Unlikable and over the top, almost too ridiculous. Stop with the Beth worship. We're tired of it.

Overall a terrible season and it makes me feel like Taylor Sheridan didn't care at all, so why should we?

Addictive viewing

Just got to the end of Season 4 having binge watched to this point. At this time it looks like 8 new episodes await with new ones to come. I regularly look at other comments here which I'd say are largely positive. Whilst there are characters and storylines that are annoying at times, you have to take the rough with the smooth.

I'm a fan and love the show. I watched 1883 first which I thought was magnificent. Next I saw 1923 which I enjoyed less but still a great show. I appreciate the brutality and reality of the shows. Shocking stuff at times.

Ok, which characters are my favourites, warts and all. I absolutely adore Monica. The actress is stunningly beautiful, captivatingly gorgeous. I can forgive her anything. I like Kayce too, he's a good guy.

Jimmy is great, I'm always rooting for him.

Now to Beth. What a fantastic actress Kelly is. Her character pushes and pushes, further and further. This I think isn't realistic or at least, she'd have met her comeuppance by now. I feel for Jamie but don't understand why he's held responsible for the abortion etc? That's down to Beth and her father surely?

Don't know how much longer this rather ridiculous state of affairs can go on. Make it stop please, one way or another.

This isn't Yellowstone
alattawi904 January 2022
The weakest season so far If it wasn't for the bunkhouse, and Jimmy Hurdstram trip to Texas, it'll be much worse We supposed to like beth, but apparently we can't, she's too powerful, i mean it would be perfect if the show is in the MCU or DC comics, not here Not even John has this much power, not realistic at all She is in fact my biggest problem this season, the writers relys on her to fix everything and it's not sitting well with me Also how they burn Jamie character is beyond me, he's now just a pawn in the game.

I'm not stopping watching it, love the show so much and it's not that bad to quit it, but i hope Taylor find the tracks quickly Also, 1883 is so damn amazing.

What????
regcombs5 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Beth has got to be the most unlikeable character in the history of television. Somehow she has deluded herself into blaming her entire failed life on Jamie?? Ok so he made a mistake taking you to an Indian abortion clinic, but you're telling me no one in the entire clinic told you that this abortion would lead to sterilization??? And even if they didn't, You're the irresponsible brat that got pregnant in the first place how is that on Jamie. I hate how they write him to seem so weak and scared. He's a lawyer and a Dutton for Christ sake, give him a better arc. Beth is intolerable.. Not even sure what's going on with Kayce so not even going to speak on that. And heightened focus on Jimmy would have been ok if our main character arcs were better developed. It's mostly just Beth doing wtf she wants with no consequence. Please kill her off 😂 3/10 out of respect for the show but do better.

Boring
kamstradoor3 January 2022
Boring doesn't even begin to summarize how slow and unfullfilling this was. Everything felt disjointed with no resolution to what happened at all this season. With little or virtually no setup to next season. Basically leaving you with the same old same old.

The finale of a disappointing season.....
hpringnitz10 January 2022
....is only another disappointment. There is nothing at the end of this season that makes me wish season 5 was coming soon. Not like last season did. Not even close. It was a lackluster season that reflected a half hearted effort from the writers.

I do look forward to the 6666 spinoff and the 1883 spinoff. Which, I can only surmise, was the intention of the writers for this entire ten episode let down.

Oh well. Nothing good lasts forever. Yellowstone was good. Damn good. Now? Not so much.
