Solid Dark Comedy
Thine_Spidet1 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Helluva Boss is a really well crafted show with a few minor issues. The dark comedy was well executed and the voice acting was all stellar. The only issues I have are towards some scenes moving too quickly and others feel completely unnecessary, the wife getting killed and Blitzo talking with Stolas respectively. The other issue is one I can see people overlooking, and it's inconsistencies in terms of the character's looks. I'm not bringing up cartoony expressions (those look great!) I'm referring to characters looking slightly off model between shots.

Overall it's a really great time for people with a morbid sense of humor, with a few minor issues.

The independent comedy series kicks it off strong
meieraedan1 November 2020
With snappy comedy, gorgeous animation, and above average voice casting, the first episode of Helluva Boss proves its pilot episode wasn't all talk. While a few surprising casting changes were made for two main characters, beyond that criticism there are no real other glaring issues. This show has terrific potential and I cant wait to see where it goes next.

A Great First Episode

This episode was funny, suspenseful, and very well animated. The part with Stolas was also priceless! This episode was an amazing start to the actual series!

Phenomenal

This episode has an ambition compared to the others that makes it special. You can tell Spindlehorse wanted to start this show as strong as they could. Amazing tension that caught me completely offguard, amazing visuals, amazing action, amazing jokes, this is Helluva Boss at its strongest. The teachers backstory was not only surprisingly engaging, but incredibly fun and ridiculous. Without going into spoiler territory, lets just say that the episode's first scene is one of the greatest I've ever seen in any western adult cartoon comedy. This may be an unpopular opinion, but this is HB's best episode so far.

Great episode.

This episode feels like Helluva Boss. It handles all of its characters extremely well, none feel like they're ever out of character, and compared to the rest of the show, this episode feels like it was actually made for more mature audiences. I never got bored throughout the entire episode, yet one problem I have with every episode is the extremely predictable humor on certain occasions, and the akwardness of some of the jokes. This episode is what Helluva Boss aims to be, yet none of the later episodes have hit me quite as well since. I hope Vivz will someday look back on the earlier episodes and take notes of the way they wrote the first episodes.

An improvemet over the Pilot!

Warning: Spoilers
The Pilot was good, but this is great! The crazy family was hilarious, and one of the best of the show so far. The ending where the family died was the best joke ever in the episode.

A good change, Hope it gets better

With their official episode for their web series (Before Hazbin Hotel will change). So far they improve for this show to work, though the writing might need some balance.

decent, but worse than average for the series.

The weakest episode of the series so far in my opinion. Not bad though.

First was better. Very enjoyable

Yes I loved it! But even for me who enjoyed the dark humor thought it was a lot to much.

Better than the pilot, but has almost the same flaws
elgodzz14 March 2024
As for the pilot, it has better animation, improvement in the structure of the episode, and a little in the humor (not that much)

Among some of the problems are that the episode is that it is too short and is quite rushed, the plot is what you would expect reading the synopsis of the series, and that's it

Maybe another problem would be Loona XD, but for now she is simply an almost filler character who has a lot of screen time, but at this moment i can't hate her as much as I do for the rest of the series

Maybe what makes it not stand out as much is that it is a very basic episode and it does nothing to make it stand out among the following episodes.

It is a standard episode of the series

Mid 6: Enjoyable but very average (Ok)

Not bad
iloverecroom26 April 2024
Plot:Its certainly structured better. Its not mind-blowing,but its not bad. The pacing on the other hand is way too fast. 6/10.

Humor:Its not as good as the pilot. I didn't laugh half as much. There were still some good jokes in there(ex. Stolas's dirty talk,Moxxie's italian accent and Blitzø's quippy dialogue in general) 6/10

Visuals:It has more variety in comparison to the pilot due to the setting. I like the variety and each setting is holy to behold. 8/10

Music:The music's kinda just ok in this one. The teacher song isn't as charming as the I. M. P jingle. 6/10

Voice acting:Brandon Rogers,Richard Horvitz,Vivian Nixon,Erica Lindbeck,Mara Wilson, Jinkx Monsoon and Bryce Pinkham all did amazing for this episode. 10/10

Theme execution:I know this isn't an educational show, but the moral's kinda....horrible. I know its hell, but in my opinion,it would have been nice to get a more morally in between takeaway for this episode....and the way its done is ok,but the overly quick pacing kind of hinders it a bit. 3/10

Overall:6.5/10. A vast improvement from the pilot with a good story structure. Not my favourite, but not too bad for its first episode outing.(the pilot is now not canon)

A bad and generic start.
pablodavogomez20 November 2022
This was the first episode I've watched and it was boring and generic. The dark humor was badly executed imo and the ending was atrocious. I think the idea of this show is decent, but this episode is just an average bad adult cartoon. I'm giving this episode a 4/10 but it's very near to the 3/10.

The characters aren't really memorable or even likable. It's the kind of show that throws a lot of dark jokes and sex jokes and doesn't even try doing an actually funny and creative joke. The animation is good and it's the only thing in the episode that was actually fun to watch, but it wasn't amazing or anything like that.

3.5/10 ~ 4/10, low bad.

Updated: I've watched until S2E4 and the show overall is definitely better than this, but I really wish this first episode was a lot better.
