Vera and Maurice are back from their honeymoon and his mother tells Selwyn that he has been evicted from his shared bedroom. He sleeps on the chair, and looks in the newspaper for a place to live, but to no avail. The committee take pity on him and give him a makeshift bed at the club.

The annual Scarsdale Gala is here. Selwyn volunteers for so many jobs at the fair, that Jack, Harry, Clive and Ray just sit in the beer tent all day drinking. At the end of the event, Selwyn is exhausted and asks for help to get the empty beer bottles back to the club. They won't help, and Selwyn makes another mess of things by doing it on his own.

Selwyn volunteers to join the Scarsdale band. He drives his family crazy by practicing at all hours. He is so proud, he tells the committee about it, and they let him know that the band has be defunct for a few months. So he decides to have a group photo to hang over the bar, but the drum rolls away.

Selwyn gets a promotion at work and is now a wrecking ball operator. When he is sent to Mr. Goodall's home to pull it down, he finds him barricaded in. He quits, and Mr Bromley orders him to come down off the truck. Selwyn hits a lever and accidentally drops the ball on Bromley's new car.

After helping a young boy, the boy tells Selwyn that he is bullied at school. The bullies call the boy Selwyn Froggitt. Selwyn takes it to heart and gets a set of encyclopedias. A radio quiz comes on and the question is on the exact item he is reading in the book. He wins £10 and his ego is boosted. There is graffiti all over town to celebrate.

At the annual committee meeting, Selwyn confesses that he lost £10 from the petty cash box. He put it in an envelope and took it home. He decides to have a sponsored bike race to raise the money. After doing 50 laps of the town, he only made £2. That night, his mum finds the envelope.

Selwyn and his puppet Johnny entertain the kids at the children's home. He then goes to the pub to collect the miserable Mr. Ramshaw, the senior the Froggitt's have to entertain for Christmas this year. Selwyn takes him to Church, the cemetery to visit all three wives, home for lunch, charades, I spy games, and then back to the pub for the Christmas raffle. Mr. Ramshaw wins the giant stuffed teddy with only one ticket. Selwyn spent £6 on tickets and is disappointed. Ramshaw gives him the teddy and Selwyn takes it to the Children's Home.
