Not worth my time. . . or yours.
24 August 2022
The show's hosts think they're funny. They are definitely not. The producers apparently believe they're giving car enthusiasts useful information. They are not. Don't waste your time watching.

Waste of my time.
30 July 2022
Going through dirt, rocks, and creeks on bikes totally unsuitable for the terrain? Who thought that would be interesting?

Their supposedly "clever and funny" narration was neither. BTW, if the terrain was so horrible, how did the camera crew get through? I suppose it was in that car that was accidentally caught on camera behind.

Bottom line - I turned it off.

Without Axe, the show has lost its edge.
31 January 2022
It's a different show, but not for the better. Giamatti's new persona and plans make no sense, nor do Corey Stoll's. The main characters who have left the show have diminished it. The new characters have not improved it.

Walker (2021– )

This show doesn't deserve "Walker" in the title.
8 November 2021
The episodes are poorly written, and an insult to the few good actors in the series. Hint: Jared Padalecki as Walker is NOT one of them. His dialog is virtually always frenetic, accompanied with wild gestures and crazy facial expressions. The plots are so full of holes they make a sieve look like secure storage. Don't waste your time.

Nonsensical and boring.
26 December 2020
This episode has one of the silliest plots so far this season. The plot wanders around like a babe lost in the woods. (Metaphor intended). Was the entire writing staff on holiday, leaving the script to the janitor? Finally, Samuel Anderson as Danny, the school teacher and Clara's love interest is one of the most unlikeable characters in this series.

Too much complaining,
14 October 2020
Allison spends too much time complaining about "the mess" and not enough time about the project. Every four or five minutes, she goes on a rant about how badly her (now ex) partner treated her and the projects. The show has become mostly about her talking to the camera. She's a talented designer, but it's no longer the main focus of the show.

Dumbest hero of any series, ever.
25 August 2020
Hakan, the Protector constantly makes the stupidest decisions of any lead of of any action show I've ever watched - movie, television series, cable program - you name it. On the positive side, the all of the characters are well cast and the scenery and sets in Instanbul are magnificent.

Well done by the crew as usual.
30 July 2020
This redo of a Toyota Land Cruiser was what everyone expects from Chip Foose. Perfect modifications, colors and style. No one designs cars better than Foose, and no crew builds better vehicles than Foose's. Unfortunately, I had to downrate to 9 stars instead of the 10 that Chip usually deserves. It has something to do with the roof, but you'll have to watch to understand why.

New hosts
4 April 2020
I'll watch for a while, but so far I'm not thrilled with the cast change. Bryan Fuller has great qualifications, but his overacting is juvenile. Jeremy Bumpus is OK. Unfortunately, this pair don't match up at all with Lou Santiago and Jarod Zimmerman.

Willie G. and Kevin Byrd May be technically competent, but are on par with an eighth grader's first school play. This show is easily the worst of Motor Trend's auto enthusiast lineup.

How to reincarnate a classic TV series and make it DOA.
30 October 2018
The bad: 1) Feeble attempts at comedy. 2) Feeble attempts at drama. 3) Cheezy plots. 4) Bad acting. 5) miscast lead actors - except for Perdita Weeks.

The good: 1) Perdita Weeks. 2) The Hawaiian scenery.

I wish I could rate it 0 stars.
25 February 2017
I'm always up for a good, inventive home repair / refurbish series, but this one misses the mark by a country mile. The main focus is bickering among the crew members and over-the-top fake drama. I don't know who writes the dialog, but it would embarrass the cast of a grade- school play.

This series is trying to capitalize on the current trend of home- flipper programs, but there isn't a Chip or Joann in the whole cast.

Don't waste your time.

In the annals of science fiction . . . well, never mind. Spaceflight IC-1 doesn't belong there
15 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This movie about a crew of couples and children being sent to another planet in hopes of colonization is barely watchable. There is some science fiction that is so bad that it's funny. This is NOT one of those movies. Spaceflight IC-1 doesn't even qualify as watchable "schlock." The spaceship's (and I use the word 'spacechip' loosely) interior looks like a small, converted, second-rate office building. The characters' uniform insignia denotes their job aboard ship, but there's little mystery there, because of the little sewn tags on their uniforms, such as Captain, Doctor, Teacher, Engineer, etc. Thank you, Captain Obvious. The dialog was stilted, amateurish and generally badly delivered. The only redeeming feature was the dialog delivered at the funerals of two crew members - and that was from the Bible.

This series had promise, but it wandered off course.
3 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The concept of a generation ship is not new, but after watching the first two episodes I was really intrigued. The visual effects were well done, and the casting was reasonable. Not exceptional, but reasonable.

Spoiler alert: By the third episode, when it was revealed that it was not a generation ship, but an experiment to determine how a generation ship would survive . . . or not, I was even more interested.

However, by the fourth episode, I was starting to lose interest. There were too many technical errors, particularly about the command structure.

After that episode, it really fell apart. Plot structure was seemingly random in many aspects. Parts of the plot made a lot of sense, but many more just seemed to be time fillers.

I watched all of the episodes because of the time I had invested, but now I'm sorry I started watching the series in the first place.

Not even close in quality to the original Criminal Minds
28 May 2016
Let me see . . . some American gets in trouble in a third-world country with no real infrastructure or effective law enforcement and a mega- plane filled with a cross-culture FBI team flies in to save the day?

In a country where the highest communication technology is a little north of tin cans with string, they use a monster database cross- referencing the UNSUB's operating area with the color of his shirt, his mother's laundry detergent and what he had for lunch on Wednesday to locate him? Seriously?

The cast is OK, but whomever develops the story lines has literally lost the plot. I began watching it because of the show's lineage and Gary Sinese . . . but I'm done with it.

Castle's ridiculous theories
28 April 2016
I have loved this show for years, but the current season is driving me up the wall. The underlying stories are interesting, but Castle's continuing invention of insane theories, conspiracies and motives has become seriously boring and detrimental to the overall quality of the show.

In this episode, the relentless, ridiculous 'superhero' theme was so overdone that it became tedious, repetitious and overwhelmed the underlying plot.

While the other characters in the series have grown, Castle has become a caricature.

"Reality" TV at its worst.
11 March 2013
I tuned in to this program after being out of the US for three years, and was really looking forward to a quality auto restoration series. What I found was about 70% yelling, screaming, complaining and editorializing about how awful the rest of the staff was. They work on amazing cars - it's a pity that we don't get to see much of the work. This program makes American Chopper look like a Sunday school class. The premise is supposedly about bringing classic cars back to life, in the words of owner Mark Worman. It's more about Mark Worman preaching and pontificating. Worman said that he "wanted a docudrama." Well, he got it in spades, heavy on the drama. This is one guy who's tuning out.

Brainless & mediocre
4 November 2012
The back story on this movie is apparently that Cage needs money to pay off his $12 million tax bill. An unbelievable plot infused with characters making completely stupid decisions does not make a good movie.

Teacher Will Gerard's wife is brutally raped, and he makes a deal with a shadowy figure representing a vigilante group. He can't see that this group likely has ulterior motives and that making this deal will incur a debt that he can't pay.

The rest of the story is standard fare. Nobody believes him, and he keeps digging himself deeper and deeper.

If it's free on TV, and you need some brainless entertainment, watch it. If you want a good movie, find something else.

SEAL Team VI (2008)

This filmmaking team . . .
16 October 2011
. . . should drop to bended knees with their collective faces in the dirt and BEG Seal Team VI for forgiveness. IT. IS. THAT. BAD.

The story (and I take literary license for calling it a story) is somehow connected to Operation Desert Shield, although the connection is tenuous at best. Basically, it's drop behind enemy lines (by HALO jump from a C-130 AFTER going aloft in a helo?) shoot at Islamists, get shot at by Islamists, and use a jumpy camera to give that "intensity of action" effect.

Nevermind that the uniforms are wrong, the weapons are wrong, and the air support comes from stock footage rather than real aircraft.

Then, there's the 10 minute "patriotic sermon" at the end. I haven't heard a diatribe like that since the third "Billy Jack" movie.

The same guy was director, writer, producer, sound department, editorial department and underwater cameraman. He has only one credit on IMDb. This film shows why.

If this is the only thing on TV, go sort your sock drawer. It will be infinitely more satisfying.
