A horror classic in the making
18 March 2022
I am proud to say that A24 has put out yet another Horror classic in the making! X is a film that follows a group of youths in their prime looking for stardom through an adult film shoot in 1970s Texas. When they pay off an oblivious elderly couple in order to film using a cabin (and a barn) on their property, things aren't what they seem and their big dreams of stardom quickly become their biggest Nightmare! Every shot in this film has meaning, every character is memorable, and its overall atmosphere is eerie enough to make even the most hardcore of horror fans skin crawl. X is a film that I may be able to confidently say is the scariest horror film in 2022. While obviously I can't say this for certain until the end of the year this films sound design combined with its clearly thought out shots alone, built this tension that simply has to be experienced for one to understand what I mean! While X may not be for everyone (especially the faint hearted) if you're into disturbing straight up horror this film delivers and then some. X is an incredible film for anybody who is looking for an eerie horror film with gripping realism that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout its runtime, I know I was!

Simply a fun time, nothing more nothing less
18 March 2022
Life After Beth is one of those films that you can throw on in the background if you're simply looking to pass some time and still manage to get a chuckle or even a tear out of it. Aubrey Plaza (as well as the rest of the cast) is clearly having a blast with their roles and that simply flows through the audience making Life After Beth a pretty enjoyable experience! It's different and brings something new to the now everyday zombie film that we have all come to expect from the horror subgenre. Life After Beth isn't a blockbuster classic and it knows it, as the viewer you should simply turn off our brain and enjoy the amounts of fun that Life After Beth has to offer as the crazy film that it is!

The Foo Fighters should stick to music
18 March 2022
Im not sure who this was for but it definitely wasn't me.. Studio 666 follows the story of beloved band The Foo Fighters as they attempt to record a unique 10th album for their record label. In order to do this they use an old house which happens to be haunted as their recording grounds. This film was one I through on with low expectations from the beginning, I should've had them lower. Im not sure if Studio 666 was made for Horror fans, Foo Fighter Fans, or music fans but with me being all three of those I found slim to no enjoyment from this. With that being said, who this for is genuinely a difficult question for me to answer. Sure, the film knows how ridiculous it's premise is however all this does is leads to some very forced humor which never really lands.. After sitting through this mess, all I can really say as a last note is that maybe the Foo Fighters should stick to music and music only.

A fun return to form
7 October 2021
Say what you will but V/H/S 94 is a fun return to form for the V/H/S franchise, taking it back to its grittier roots coming off of V/H/S Viral. While the film takes a much more "bizarre" direction than than first two films, its more fun for doing so as it at least stick to the somewhat believable found footage realism that the first two films set up so well. 94 is a refreshing return to the franchises roots after Viral, definitely check it out if you were a fan of those first two films!

Nothing more than a parody of its own franchise
6 October 2021
Coming off of a franchise that I at least enjoyed V/H/S Viral was a massive disappointment! This film feels like nothing more than a cheap parody off of the other two (far superior) films in the franchise. As found footage horror film, the goal is to be scary and/or disturbing using the realism factor of "found footage", something that the first two films pulled off fairly well. Viral takes that film premise and makes a mockery out of it. While V/H/S Viral can be at least "entertaining" at times, I can with certainty tell you that you aren't missing much if you skip this one and stick to the first two.

A worthy sequel
6 October 2021
V/H/S 2 is a sequel that tries to go bigger and better than its predecessor. While this is the sequels achievement, it also managed to be its failure. While I can't for sure say which of these two films I enjoy more than the other I can say that as a found footage film, the polished and big budgeted look hurts V/H/S 2 as it almost gets rid of the realistic feel that the first film set up so well. With that being said the second film does maintain a set much more memorable "tapes" to be viewed within the film. Much like the original, I will say that V/H/S 2 (while not for everyone) is a good film to check out if your itching for a decently disturbing, anthology, found footage, horror film.

Decent Found Footage Horror
6 October 2021
V/H/S is a mixed bag for me making it Incredibly difficult to review.. Where the film has many low points, it also has many high points. While the film makes some bad writing decisions as far as its characters go and also struggles with pacing throughout, to say that it is a bad film wouldn't be fair. V/H/S isn't a film for everyone to enjoy, however if your looking for a decent anthology style, found footage, horror film this is a great option. While I feel that the first "tape" that we see in the film somewhat overshadows the rest, the film maintains that very "realistic" feel that makes found footage horror so great!

Freaky (2020)
7/10
A fun film that turns the drained slasher subgenre on its head
4 October 2021
Freaky does not come without its flaws (of course) but it does add an interesting and rather fun premise of a film into the iconicly cliche slasher subgenre! I could say that the beginning of this film sets up a cliche premise or that the ending of the film was as predictable as it gets. While both of those statements may be true, the entire rest of the film goes a totally different direction than expected making the basic opening forgivable and the lackluster ending is barely noticeable on first watch coming off of the fun Rollercoaster ride that Freaky was throughout! Before I close out this review i should also add that Vince Vaughn runs the show in this film putting his full acting ability on display! He manages to make you belive that he is a teenage girl trapped in a grown man's body and it is hilarious, impressive, and entertaining (nowhere near as awkward as one might assume it too be). Freaky is a fun horror comedy that turns a beat to death slasher premise on its head and makes it unique. While the body switching premise has been done 100 times before, seeing it done in a slasher film was interesting and new! If you can get through the low points of this film, your bound to have a good time!

The Heart is Gone
15 July 2021
Back when I was growing up, Icarly was one of my favorite shows to watch with my family. Whenever a new episode was airing we would all gather in the living room, turn on Nickelodeon, and watch it while eating our own Spaghetti Tacos (which of course is a staple to the show and the Fandom)! We did this until the show eventually came to an end, watching Icarly each and every week were some of the most fondest memories spent with my family so to say that I was looking forward to this revival of the series would be a huge understatement! I couldn't help but think about how amazing this could be. Icarly (2021) would've been introducing a whole younger generation to an incredible series from our childhoods while also reintroducing us to Carly, Freddy, Spencer, and all of our favorite and loveable Icarly characters. I thought that my family might even get back to watching a new episode every week together for old times sake! With that being said, I could not have been more let down by this series.. the heart and fun of the original series is pretty much entirely absent for this revival. The characters (including the ones that we grew up loving) are dull and hardly entertaining to watch, the social commentary is way overbearing, and Harper is simply no substitute for Sam! Sadly, the Revival is nowhere near the original in terms of heart, fun and overall entertainment.

A Decent Send off to Cesar's Story
28 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
War for the Planet of the Apes may not be as good as its two predecessors but it still manages to send the trilogy off on a high note. I may have mentioned this in both of my reviews for the previous two films but its simply impossible not to mention when reviewing this trilogy. The visuals throughout this film absolutely steals the show! War for the Planet of the Apes easily has the most convincing visual effects of the entire trilogy which is obviously an impressive feat to say the least. The action sequences are also incredible as expected from this trilogy by this point. Where the film falls behind for me in comparison however, is it's pacing as well as its ending. War is paced nowhere near as well as the first two and can feel a bit slow and even boring at times which was a major issue for me. Ontop of that the ending just wasn't satisfying for me at all especially given that it was the finale of Cesar's story. Cesar's story and his legacy is something that has been built throughout the entirety of this trilogy and ends rather abruptly within this film.. other than those issues, this is still an incredible sci-fi action film that will tug on your heartstrings as much as it will have you cheering on the edge of your seat!

An Epic Followup
28 June 2021
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes does exactly what a sequel should do! It takes everything that made the first film so great and cranks it up to 11. In this film we get to see how the events of Rise of the Planet of the Apes has affected the world as time has gone by. Much like its predecessor, the films is visually stunning with incredible motion capture performances and memorable cinematography. The human side of this story is a bit lack luster in comparison to Rise but thats a small issue as the rest of the film is jaw dropping in every other way. The action sequences are uncomfortable to anything I have ever seen and we are given incredible character development for both our protagonist Cesar as well as our antagonists Koba who's rivalry carries this film and sets up the next installment in this franchise perfectly!

A Show I can Relate to
27 June 2021
When I was in high-school, I accidently met a girl online while playing an internet role playing game titled IMVU. We ended up talking and eventually dating which eventually led to me driving out to meet her, she lived in Maryland while I lived in Pennsylvania. That experience makes Catfish all the more engaging for me to watch as I can Relate to alot of the emotions that are being felt by people that are going through these events! I've felt the nerves, I've felt the doubt, and I've felt the love that you can feel simply from talking to someone online. If you don't have this type of experience you may not understand or connect the show as much but it is definitely a great service to help these people get that little push towards meeting who they believe they are in love with and onto of that, makes for a great reality TV series.

Not what I was expecting..
27 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
As a huge Godzilla fan anything new regarding the big guy is always welcome in my book. With that being said it's easy to forget that this show has anything to do with the titular monster as it take around 6 or 7 episodes for him to even make a real appearance.. It isn't all bad however, the monster action is always fun to watch of course but outside of that the characters are rarely interesting and I found myself constantly losing interest and checking out anytime the monsters weren't on screen. I'd obviously say watch this show if your as big of a Godzilla fan as I am just don't expect as much as I did..

An Emotional Masterpiece
27 June 2021
Rise of the Planet of the Apes is simply the closest thing to a masterpiece that I have seen in film within recent memory! This film is best described as a Rollercoaster of emotions, an origins story that will make you chuckle, smile, and above all cry. Seeing the character of Cesar slowly transition from a loveable ape to the commander and chief of an ape army with the intent of seeking revenge over the human race is a scenario that will inevitably bring tears to your eyes. The film shines in pretty much every way possible but the major props go out to its breathtaking Cgi and special effects work along with its clearly well thoughout story and pacing! This is a must watch, its as simple as that!

I Loved It!
25 June 2021
I'm gonna start this review off by simply saying that I do not get the hate for this film AT ALL!!! I think it's equal parts creative and hilarious as a National Lampoons Vacation film should be. Is it a perfect film? Not by any stretch of the imagination, but it does what it sets out to do perfectly! I have seen this film so many times already and still end up laughing so hard that I'm choking! The film can get a bit repetitive towards the end as it follows the same formula throughout, but in the the same breath there isn't a single segment within Vacation that isn't simply hilarious. As someone who grew up on the National Lampoons films I think this film is great in the fact that it introduces a whole other generation to the Lampoons and their relatable disfunction and bad luck.

Another heartfelt Pixar Film!
21 June 2021
Luca Is a beautiful story about a boy (who happens to a SeaMonster) experiencing life on the "surface world" for the first time! The film is fun, heartfelt, and a perfect movie to throw on for the entire family to enjoy! Children will enjoy the fun characters and their hijinx while parents will enjoy The meaningful story that the film creates, Meanwhile everyone in the room will get a kick out of the genuinley funny humor thrown in throughout. The ending was pretty predictable and the film had some writing that didn't make a whole lot of sense but hey, it's still another heartfelt Pixar movie that the entire family can sit down and enjoy for what it is!

Beautiful film with an even more beautiful message
20 June 2021
I've been looking forward to checking this one out for some time now and I am so happy to have finally gotten around to it! The film is both visually and emotionally stunning with beautiful animation that catches your eye straight off the bat and a very captivating story that may just bring a tear to your eye! The characters are loveable and the world that this film builds is very captivating to the point that you just might get lost in it! While the film can be somewhat predictable at times it's a small flaw in such a beautiful film!

There Goes the Franchise
18 June 2021
As a massive fan of the Ice Age films I could with confidence say that I wish Collison Course didn't exist.. I love the first 4 films but this is simply the first AND final nail in the coffin for this franchise. This 5th entry in the Ice Age franchise is the ugly duckling for multiple reasons. Very rarely did the humor land for me as it felt incredibly forced throughout, it brings very few "new" elements to the series, the film doesn't do very much with what was setup in the previous movie, and it honestly feels like a cash grab thats simply milking a dead cow! This was the first Ice Age film that I genuinely struggled to get through and if they ever continue this franchise I sincerely hope that they learn from the mistake that was Collision Course!

A Fun Fourth Entry Into the Franchise
18 June 2021
Coming off of Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Continental Drift can seem like a pretty big step down (especially if your binge watching the Ice Age franchise). With that being said however, to say that this is a "bad" entry or that it isn't fun just wouldn't be true. Alot of the humor seems a bit forced and the film itself seems a bit rushed but overall Continental Drift is a fun entry none the less. We meet a ton of fun new characters including Sids grandmother, Shira the sabertooth, captain Gut and his crew (the films antagonists), and even Manny's daughter Peaches as a teenager amongst many others! While it may not be the best film in the franchise it definitely brings alot to the series and is chalk full of great moments and contains a great set of characters new and old!

Epic Family Adventure!
18 June 2021
While this may be an unpopular opinion, I believe Dawn of the Dinosaurs to be the most enjoyable film in the Ice Age franchise! This film has the most eyecatching visuals, the best action sequences, the most intimidating threat being Rudy, and of course the introduction of the most interesting character of the entire franchise being Buck the weasle! Dawn of the Dinosaurs simply deserves more of a reputation than it has in my personal opinion. A few complaints that I had about the second Ice Age film consisted of alot of the jokes feeling forced and the majority of them being target towards a more mature audience coasting away from the "fun for the entire family" aesthetic that the first film setup so well. Dawn of the Dinosaurs rights those wrongs in more ways than one. The jokes no longer feel forced and the themes explored feel as if they alternate between child friendly and the more adult themes on a much more natural level than the previous film. If I am ever in the mood to watch an Ice Age film I will more than likely be throwing this one on!

Another Fun Adventure
17 June 2021
While Ice Age: The Meltdown may not be quite as good as its predecessor, it's still a fun adventure none the less! Our three titular character are as great as ever and we get three more additions to the herd as well one of who is another mammoth to be by Manny's side, along with her two "brothers" who happen to be possums. While most of the comedy in this film is much more oriented towards adults and feels forced at times our heards relationships grow even more as we they embark on an adventure for survival.

A Heartfelt Journey
17 June 2021
Ice Age was the very first film that I got the pleasure of experiencing in the theaters so right away that gives this film a massive nostalgic edge! I grew up loving this film as a kid and have recently discovered that I still love it as an adult. This is a movie that can without question be enjoyed by the entire family! It has quirky, funny moments that the kids will enjoy while also maintaining its more serious heartfelt moments and even adult humor that the grownups will appreciate. We get to go on this meaningful journey with our three protagonist, Sid, Diego, and Manny as they attempt to return a lost child to his tribe. Throughout this journey we get to see their relationships form quite literally from nothing. This film will make you laugh, maybe even cry, but above all you will fall in love with these characters as we get to know them, and care about them just as they do with eachother.

Just bad..
16 June 2021
As a film buff (especially of the horror genre) I choose to give every film I watch a fair chance and a fair review, I try my best not to give biast opinions based on its genre or what franchise it comes from. With that being said, this is one of the rare instances that I struggled to find a single good thing to say about a film.. The Poltergeist of Borley Forest or "You Will Love Me" just looks and feels incredibly cheap, you can tell that it was made entirely by students with little to no experience. The camera movements are horrible and distracting, the lighting looks cheap, and the acting is atrocious all around.. if that wasn't enough there is nothing remotely interesting about this films plot or its writing.. definitely not worth your time.

Could've been interesting... COULD'VE
15 June 2021
If you couldn't tell from the title, Selfie from Hell had a unique concept to say the least. The movie deals alot with the Darkweb which has always interested me so a movie that has to do with the topic is always welcomed in my book! However, this films execution just did not land for me. It had its interesting moments (mostly those dealing with the dark web) but the majority of the film was simply put a dull everyday horror movie. We spend time with our characters, something creepy happens, repeat, the end.. this film basically felt like a huge risk with zero of the reward. With Dumb character decisions, and dull storytelling It struggled to be interesting and as a result I struggled to keep my interest.

JAMES MCAVOY HAS RANGE
4 June 2021
Split is a slowburn horror that simply made my jaw hit the floor. Im normally not the biggest fan of slowburns but this one just manages to pull it off perfectly! Stunning and eerie cinematography work and absolutely incredible performances separated this film from the rest and made it a very enjoyable yet disturbing experience. The build up to "The Beast" is done perfectly as well however, one thing that I picked up from this film is how great James McAvoy is at what he does! The man plays multiple very different personalities in this one film and pulls each and every one off without a problem! His performance definitely made the film for me!
