So long-winded that I just had to stop watching...
6 April 2024
The film is terribly long-winded and has very little interesting content. First of all, you have to get through the strange intro, in which people talk constantly, before you can start the boring film. This is quite a task because the intro itself is very long. I was so happy when the first images appeared. It's another typical chick flick, in which love and one-night stands play a major role. It's not unique. Storyline and I experience a lot of difficulty keeping my attention on the film. I'm missing some tension or some fun/unique elements that could set this film apart from the rest of its genre. After about half an hour I stopped the film out of boredom... it was impossible for me to watch it.

Milo (2024–2025)

a youth series with Camille - It's a hype
6 April 2024
In my opinion, the telenovelle "Milo" is more of a youth series or even a children's series. It reminds me of other children's series like #LikeME. The reason for this is that Camille d'Hondt plays the leading role in both series. Both series are also set on a school campus and the storyline of both series is quite similar, namely unbeaten love. Although in "Milo" Camille is no longer a student, but works in the school cafeteria. Still, I felt like her acting looked more 'mature' in #LikeMe. Which is very confusing if you follow/have followed both series.

The acting isn't great, but I can still get away with it. It's ideal for casually watching TV without having to think, but I wouldn't call it really binge-watch worthy or of a high standard. But I personally don't think whether this belongs on a major (Belgian) television channel such as VTM and that in Prime-time.

Not at all what I expected
21 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I settled into the seat with the hope of an exciting disaster film about an attack that was thwarted on a train route that runs through my home country. I had no idea what was coming at me. The attack itself is barely five minutes of the entire film! Instead, I look in amazement at a biography about 3 friends growing up and all the problems they faced in their youth.

As if that wasn't enough, the film also has very poor acting. Only after doing some research did I discover that the main characters (the 3 American soldiers who foiled the attack) were also effectively played by these 3 American soldiers who saved so many lives. However, that is the only thing that makes this film 'beautiful'. It is a nice tribute to the 3 heroes. But it is far from a good film full of suspense that I had hoped for.

The best moment of this tribute in the film was the switch from the film itself to a news fragment in which the 3 heroes are praised by the French President and where their actions are highlighted.

Wil (2023)
9/10
history depicted
9 February 2024
In this film we follow the storyline of the origins of the resistance during the Second World War in Antwerp from the eyes of the young police officer Wils. The story is told as history actually occurred. All necessary, sometimes cruel, details are included in the film. At times the film is frightening and cruel, giving you a feeling of envy towards history.

The scenes are filmed entirely in the Antwerp dialect, which is sometimes difficult to understand even as a Flemish person. So turning on the subtitles is definitely a must.

The film itself is very structured. We start with a general introduction and quickly get started with the effective storyline. The events follow each other in quick succession and you continue to be triggered to look up. However, there is a time jump halfway through the film, which suddenly makes it seem a bit confusing and it takes a while before you realize what just happened.

Christmas at the Drive-In (2022 TV Movie)

disappointed
20 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
For the first time in my life I am very disappointed in a Christmas movie. A Christmas movie should be about a couple who long for each other until they finally become a couple. With this film I am unable to empathize with the romantic story. It is mainly the acting performances that deprive me of the feeling. Something isn't right, but I can't point my finger at what that something is. This makes it very difficult to imagine yourself in the story, my attention constantly slips away from the screen and I hardly believe the story. In addition, the feel-good moment can only be found in the very last minutes. With most films there is a feel-good moment halfway through the film, which gives you a cheerful atmosphere. This film is very heavy and lacks the cheerful Christmas notes that most Christmas films have.

Choose Love (II) (2023)

A movie-game for teens
8 December 2023
Personally, I was very curious about the concept of an interactive film, but it quickly turned out not to be for me. As a viewer you can make choices during the story. This already has the limitation that you have to watch the film on a touchscreen. Streaming this film is therefore impossible.

The story itself is very childish. Very little happens, there is hardly any tension. Because the image and sound on Netflix are not 100% synchronized and there are often breaks in the film to allow you to make your choices, you are not drawn into the story. It is very difficult to keep your attention.

In my opinion, this concept has been developed purely for children to keep them busy in silence. It is exactly the same concept as the choice games that you can install as a game on your smartphone. I don't think these is any added value that this film/game (whatever you want to call it) is promoted on a streaming service such as Netflix.

Typical and predictable christmas movie
8 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie has an ordinary simple, predictable storyline for a Christmas movie. 2 people get to know each other and fall in love, a misunderstanding ensues and afterwards they live happily ever after.

The story in this film is specifically given a cat theme. For example, just before Christmas, a box with 9 kittens was found at the fire station. The 9 kittens are given the names of the 9 reindeer that pull Santa's sleigh. The main characters do everything they can to have the 9 kittens adopted before Christmas. And just like with the reindeer, Rudolph also provides real romantic Christmas magic in this film.

Romeo and Julliet 2.0
7 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The film starts with promising corny music, which should be the sign of a great romantic film. However, in the next scene we are already in the middle of an argument between 2 families. This is especially confusing at the beginning of the film, but as the film progresses, everything becomes clearer.

It soon becomes clear that the storyline is based on the story of Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare. The daughter of one family slowly falls in love with the son of the "enemy family". Of course, both feuding families do not approve of the relationship between the children, so the relationship must remain secret. This age-old, classic story has been given a modern twist, namely a pumpkin pie competition. The biggest subject of this film is undoubtedly the forbidden relationship within an old family feud.

a fairytale from beginning to end
7 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's December again and the television channels start their annual series of Christmas films. I put on this film without any thought or expectations. I soon found myself in an effective fairy tale. It starts with the opening of a book and you are, as it were, sucked into the story, where the letters gradually fade into moving images. At the end the film turns back into a book. They tell a bit about the future of the characters, just as is the case with true stories, and the story ends with the words "And they live happily ever after".

Regardless of what the film suggests, it is not a true story, but a typical, romantic, fictional Christmas film. In this film we follow the storyline of PR assistant Kristen. She unexpectedly has to step in to plan a charity event because her PR manager Melanie has to win a client for her company in Boston. In addition, not the ambassador, but the prince suddenly appears on the doorstep of the PR company. Kristen is mistaken for Melanie, but does an excellent job. The prince and the PR assistant fall in love with each other's character and both have a big heart for charity. When jealous Josh informs Melanie about Kristen and the prince, everything spirals out of control. However, love conquers all, because "true love can make a person do strange things".

A risky roadtrip towards Venus
19 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This film really surprised me on almost every level. There is a rich history of heart problems within our family. This made the situations that the main character Mia finds herself in very recognizable and confrontational. And the scary thing about the film is that the medical facts are correct and that is not the case with most romantic stories.

During the storyline we are confronted with difficult topics such as dealing with the loss of loved ones, suicide, but also looking for answers to the unknown, fear and dealing with death. During the film, facts and silent moments follow each other, conveying the storyline in a very profound way. Fortunately, the love story of the two main characters brings some lightness to the film.

Different from a regular Christmas movie
16 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As the movie started, I was left watching in amazement. How was it possible that another movie was made with the standard Christmas storyline. I thought it would remain predictable. A man moves to an unknown city, meets his dream woman and they live happily ever after after their first kiss under the falling snow.

But this movie is different. The man does indeed move to an unknown village, but the film does not focus solely on the man's love life. The film focuses on heavy topics such as losing someone and the great diversity between people. The love for animals and some animal facts also caught my attention in this film. Some pieces are so informative and full of correct information that it seems as if a piece of documentary is playfully interwoven throughout the film.

Some scenes are really shocking and confrontational. This shows that money is not the most important thing and that it should never take precedence over family. It shows that everyone needs someone and that it doesn't matter if you are plus size. The actors in this film are not all supermodels who seem to have come out of a Photoshop program. They are people like you and me, in all shapes and sizes, fat and thin and with different character traits. And I think that really completes the whole thing.

gripping and compelling
6 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
At first I thought "please not another romantic youth series without content", but luckily fate was on my side. Even as an adult, I finished the first episode of this series in one sitting. The story of this episode is about Mia, the main character, who is released from a psychiatric institution after having an eating disorder. The story focuses on having struggles during the further healing process and the realization that the world around has never stood still. It's very moving. The emotional passages in particular appeal to me enormously. They suck you into the story and you literally feel everything the main character experiences. That's why you can empathize even better.

Stereotypical Love
18 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's a well-known storyline: A girl falls in love with a pop star after a chance meeting. This is followed by some known issues and in the end their love conquers all. The film reminded me of, among others, the Dutch movie "Haert Beat" and the German movie "Groupies bleiben nicht zum fruhstuck".

What makes this movie unique is the storyline of young people who have to work to make ends meet and the storyline of what it's like to live like a young pop star. We also see the problems of spoiled children and parents who only live to work. The set of issues provides a realistic storyline that confronts you with the facts and makes you think about your own life.

a series that you can watch over and over again
29 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is despite the fact that there is very little content in the series, a series that you can watch over and over again.

The storyline is mainly about a mother who raises her daughter in a lower position than she was raised herself. The grandparents who live in high society do not always agree with this. The mother tries to keep the grandparents out of the daughter's life and the daughter wants to be more involved in the life of the grandparents.

Throughout the series, some more difficult topics are covered such as faith, love, studying and debuting in senior class. They show the difference between rich and poor and play on prejudices.

can't deny that, although it's not my style, it's all in all a very nicely worked out film.
29 September 2022
I had to watch this movie in school. But I can't deny that, although it's not my style, it's all in all a very nicely worked out film. I think this film is also the most beautiful film in the entire DIVERGENT series.

It is a typical SCI-FI film and that brings with it the necessary special effects. I think the color palette of the film is very dark, but that also ensures that you can fully empathize with the story. Only some things are slightly less visible on a large screen.

Some things in the film can encourage young people to do stupid things, such as jumping on trains for example. I have no idea why this is being shown in schools, probably just for the hype.

The film is a must-see for every culture lover
29 September 2022
Dirty Dancing is an all-time classic. The film is known by both young and old generations. This is due to the many adaptations of the film as a musical.

The film is therefore a must-see for every culture lover. It's about the love on a holiday paradise between a guest and the entertainment team. It clearly states the limits of dealing with guests and these limits are still the same to this day. In this way, it is a learning experience for all teenagers who run hopelessly in love after a member of the entertainment team abroad.

The alternation between film and music is simply beautiful! You just have to see this movie!

I just love how this film focuses on the issues of sports like ballet.
29 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I came across this film by chance on the Dutch-language telvisie in a dubbed version and because of the dubbing I feel that a lot of details and o-puns have been lost.

When a film is made about dancing, in nine out of ten cases it is also about ballet. The great thing about this film is that the more negative sides, such as injuries from ballet, are put in the spotlight.

While most other films encourage children to participate in sports (often ballet), this one also warns about things that can go wrong. For example, a lot of attention has been paid to the injury of the main character and to the recovery process. They also try to make it clear that athletes often want to speed up their healing process or start exercising again too early, and this can have disastrous consequences for the rest of your life.

I just love how this film focuses on the issues of sports like ballet.

This radical Dutch-language film shows how quickly a life can change when a serious illness such as Leukemia is diagnosed
29 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This radical Dutch-language film shows how quickly a life can change when a serious illness such as Leukemia is diagnosed.

Despite the fact that one always remains courageous, the film is a lesson about leukemia. The film is intended for young people and through this film young people are introduced to information such as chemotherapy, being ill and eventually even dying.

These are difficult themes that young people hardly encounter in daily life. By providing this information in an amusing way, young people can better empathize with a situation with which they are confronted with serious diseases such as leukemia.

It is a film that young people will undoubtedly be able to identify with and from which parents can certainly learn something about online bullying
29 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This teen series indirectly refers to the many dangers that our technology can pose.

The story is completely different from most other teen series and that's what appeals to me so much. Technology is not always everything because everything is 'shielded' from data.

Online bullying is increasingly a hype among the young and it is sometimes so difficult to prove who is actually to blame for this malpractice. It is a film that young people will undoubtedly be able to identify with and from which parents can certainly learn something about online bullying. We know so little about it and that's why we can do so little about it. Yet the film also shows that it is not easy to intervene when online bullying occurs, because once online is always online.

Again and again I get frustrated with the small imperfections and that's such a shame, because the story is really well thought out and worked out.
29 September 2022
You can see that the director has indeed done his research, because the storyline cannot be said with a single negative word.

The acting is moderate, which means that some aspects of the story are not fully expressed (in my opinion).

But the thing that bothers me the most is the image quality. And yes, it may be a slightly older film, but I've already watched quite a few films from before that time with better image quality.

You see slight blurs everywhere, the image focuses in the wrong places, the image itself is slightly blurry... It's a bit chaotic. And because of the image chaos, I can't lose myself in the story. Again and again I get frustrated with the small imperfections and that's such a shame, because the story is really well thought out and worked out.

It really is a series to plop down, put your mind to zero and have a nice evening of laughter.
29 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is the first series where I really have no idea what I'm watching.

You'd think it's a regular cop show like so many out there. However, nothing could be further from the truth. You are taken into a hilarious story (every episode a new story) where stereotypes are magnified. It is even so well put together that the cliches are discussed and the series tries to prove that the clichés are not correct, but the way in which it is shown that they are correct.

It really is a series to plop down, put your mind to zero and have a nice evening of laughter. Only then can you fully enjoy the stories and the many details. You shouldn't think too much about it, but you just have to let it get to you.

This film really shows me that sometimes it's better to distance yourself from the wanabe groups and to associate with people who are purely themselves.
29 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I think it's a beautiful story that for me personally really shows that it's not always recommended as a 'popular girl' to hang out with the popular girl group alone.

This film really shows me that sometimes it's better to distance yourself from the wanabe groups and to associate with people who are purely themselves. Only then can you open up and discover yourself.

This message is beautifully illustrated in the film through a love story between a popular girl and a loner. As long as they are together, they are themselves and as soon as others join in, they show that they have the ideal life themselves. However, nobody is perfect.

Warning: Spoilers
This is one of those movies that you can impose at a time when you really have no idea what you want to watch. I started watching with no expectations and was very surprised by the storyline.

The story tells the story of a young couple dealing with money problems. It's such a typical story where one person has their life on point and the other person struggles to move forward in life. One person helps another. There are many scenes of weeping and eventually they form a couple.

You could say it's a teen movie like any other, but only this movie tries to address adult issues like money worries.

It is a beautiful film that shows that a misunderstanding does not necessarily have to be something negative.
29 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It is a beautiful film that shows that a misunderstanding does not necessarily have to be something negative. You can transform every setback into a positive fact and that is why you must always give everything to stay positive.

1 negative point can just mean the start of a new chapter in your life where you eventually come out so much better. In a world full of negativity, this feel-good film is a must-see for the teenage generations. It can give them the strength to move on even in the most difficult situations.

The film itself, like most teen movies these days, revolves around school love and jealousy.

It's okay to laugh, but you should never let people fall for entertainment.
29 September 2022
I started looking at this in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic. During the lockdown everything got so depressing that I needed a reality series. These sequences are naturally very hilarious because you can forget about your own problems.

However, this storyline is very long-winded and people make it more of a laughing-stock television than a reality series. All characters have been magnified to such an extent that some even appear in a negative way. Everything just seems to be played and sometimes I have the feeling that certain pieces have been played 2 or 3 times and that it no longer happens spontaneously.

After only a few episodes I gave up my attempt to finish this series. It's okay to laugh, but you should never let people fall for entertainment.
