Surprising.

One thing we really don't need are more documentaries about WWII...at least not the typical ones. After all, the History Channel and many other channels are jam-packed with such programs...so much so that you wonder why they don't rename one of them 'The World War II Channel'! However, every so often, you see a documentary about the war that looks at things in a whole new light--which is why I loved "World War Speed".

"World War Speed" is about the significant and widespread use of various amphetamines by both the Germans and Allies. This helps to explain the speed of the Blitzkrieg--how soldiers could march so far so quickly. The same goes for pilots and tank crews being able to go on and on in the worst of conditions.

Overall, a really good documentary with one tiny exception, as in one point they talk about how Britain was all alone in the war in 1942. Well, by this point the USA was involved directly...and for 1941 (at least until December) this statement would have made sense.
