Who is John Pilgrim?
lnvicta23 January 2019
Punisher season 2 was off to a rocky start for me. I enjoyed the fight scenes - excellent choreography as usual - but the plot itself was weak. I don't like the idea of Frank having a sidekick, and this girl sucks. Micro worked in season 1 because he was a likable character. I have the same issue with Madoni. She was important in season 1's plot. Here, she's kinda just dragged into it. Lazy writing is what it is.

What holds my interest are the scenes with John Pilgrim. All we know at this point is that he's a religious extremist, he has a sick wife, and seemingly wherever he goes, a bloodbath ensues. He's a breath of fresh air for Marvel villains to say the least. Who would've thought to pit the Punisher against a Da Vinci Code-esque self-loathing missionary with his own private army? What'll happen when he and Frank meet face-to-face? And who the hell really is this guy? (I don't know if Pilgrim is a comic book character, but I figure the less I know right now the better).

The subplot about the blackmail didn't grip me, though Frank's final scene with that Russian guy was great. The worst thing about the season is Jigsaw. Billy Russo was a compelling character with a clear arc. As Jigsaw, he's just an angsty thug who wears a mask because he has some scratches on his face. Hopefully they'll redeem him by the end of the season.

Nakazat

Warning: Spoilers
It seemed like Frank and his female companion randomly targeted this photographer, unless I missed something. Not saying it was not an entertaining confrontation, but it just felt out of the blue.

I think the producers of the show have about 6 episodes of material they are trying to stretch over 13 episodes. Same problem as the other Marvel shows.

Clever slight

A clever slight of hand on the Russian and decent development on Russo's storyline.

"Nakazat" is a character-driven episode revealing the complexities of the protagonists.

The pre-titles sequence is pure gold with Frank using the darkroom of a sleazy photographer and delivering a mild amount of punishment as a little "thank you" for his services. Amy acts as a moral conscience for Frank. Sensing Frank's disappointment that he was persuaded to leave the sleaze bag alive, Amy suggests he could always burn the business to the ground.

There's a sense of genuine danger for the principal characters. Bobby senses a visit from his old friend Billy is only a matter of time whilst Pilgrim locates Madani.

On top of all this, the chemistry between Billy Russo and Krista finally bubbles over.

The episode manages to avoid the usual "show me how this works" cliques during Frank's gun demonstration with Amy. It's a well handled scene.

War on two fronts
Barry_Garrick24 January 2019
The problem with a lot of the Marvel Netflix seasons of late, with maybe Daredevil being the exception, is the unnecessarily drawn out storylines with the inclusion of several smaller threads weaved in to fill a 13 episode season. It baffles me at times why they insist on meandering when we all know one way or another that Russo/Pilgrim will end up as the inevitable problem for Frank to deal with by the end of the season. There is enough to explore from these 3 characters without sending Frank to deal with endless gangs and thugs. Josh Stewart has been criminally underused up to this point because of this poor writing and I hope the second half rectifies this as this season has a lot of potential to have The Punisher go out with a bang.

The let them off with a warning-er
paultapner2 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Frank and whatever the girl's name is go after a few people, and there's story progression with that particular arc. Along with a few character moments as he shows his hidden pains and teaches her life lessons. Russo slowly starts to go further off the deep and drifts a bit further towards becoming full time Jigsaw. Madani meets Pilgrim. So everyone's going to get draw together again, whether they like it or not. Madani certainly doesn't. Despite being fifty six mins long this doesn't drag, unlike episode two, and there is steady story progression here. But only steady. It does feel as if these plot strands could be moving quicker. And Frank could have killed two folks, but lets them off instead. The first instance allows for a good bit of humour. The second might annoy hardcore fans of the character. A perfectly capable episode. Nothing more nothing less. Any chance he could do some actual punishing somewhen though?

Talk based

Mostly talk-based, but it moves along quite fast. It's nice to see Russo's storyline actually having a point and involving stuff now because it was very slow until this stage in the season.

After this episode, I hope it does get cancelled.
zeroed7721 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Was enjoying this season until this episode. In this episode, I watched The Punisher let a producer of child pr0n0 go free, refer to a pistol magazine as a clip and teach a teen how to supposedly disarm a pistol from some one in the most reckless, unrealistic way possible.

No idea who's providing the stunt coordination for this, but what do know is that it's being written and directed by far Left agendaist.

This show no longer represents The Punisher, and barely ever did. John B., a Lefty hiself, has expressed anti-gun sentiments and seemingly enjoys this platform to spread unrealistic and nonsensical bs regarding the topic. He even stated he really doesn't care much if the show gets cancelled. I sure hope it does.
