Im still confused about all the rules and particulars of cricket, but this show was a good overview of the history and current status.

Okay, just a pity about the focus on the blight that is T20

I guess I now know how other people feel when Explained examines a field they're experts in. The upside to Explained is that you get knowledge in bite-sized chunks. The obvious downside is that with only 18 or so minutes available you get a very shallow examination.
So when we have cricket, a sport that I am incredibly knowledgeable about, is the subject I suppose it was inevitable that I might find it dumbed-down. I don't mind that: the target audience is people who don't know much about cricket.
The problem I have is that 70% of the focus in the episode is on T20 cricket, which is hardly cricket at all. It's just a hit-and-giggle, style over substance derivative for those who know nothing about cricket but that consumes large undeserved portions of the cricket calendar and essentially holds the original, good quality versions of cricket to ransom. Even worse it's then portrayed as the only format worth knowing about.
