Not as advertised. Disappointing.

This creation is advertised as being part of the Dystopian genre. There is also mention that the social issues covered may be too disturbing for some viewers. More on that in a moment.

Go to Wikipedia for a definition of dystopian cinema. There is also a list of examples, which most of us have seen. This 'film' is shot about a lake, or swamp, and there are clowns with makeup, drinking flasks of alcohol, and smoking pipes of meth. Although the main characters are starving, some background actors are fat. I would follow them to see where they get food, perhaps, if I had none. It can be easily imagined that the director is a student at college, who thinks clowns are marketable and that if they drink and take drugs then that is even better. Also, he may believe that clowns are carnies and carnies interbreed, so having a character in the film who appears to have a genetic abnormality would be cool too. 'Yay, just like 'Deliverance', so cool.'

About the 'dark and disturbing' ...

Opening dialogue:

"Have you ever seen a shooting star?" "No. What's it look like?" "A firefly".

Perhaps the disturbing part of all this is that our post-apocalyptic Australian world has insects from The States. I could have more fun, but let's get down to it.

This 'film' would make a fantastic art installation, perhaps at a GOMA exhibit. It is well shot, and there are a few moods sown into the black and white imagery. If there is a new staff-member buying items for streaming to the masses, however, his stats will drop on this one.

Do the interviews with actors off set make this a more formidable slice of entertainment? Should they be a find part of reviews of this film? Not this one.

One star for being in Black & White, and a further star for employing people that may have a disability, as they are very welcome in cinema.
