Gentle and absorbing

A charming doc showing the impact of modernisation and globalisation on village life in Liguria, Italy as the locals age and their children move away.

Agricultural customs are replaced and foreigners buy the emptying properties of the village.

Stories and landscapes - a perfect gentle companion to a Sunday afternoon.

charming documentary with slow pace + melancholy

I thoroughly enjoyed this charming little documentary.

Its slow pace and lack of music may not be for everyone, but I felt it gave me the chance to really enter the space and spend time with the protagonists.

The charismatic old farmers made me chuckle, even though the overall feeling I walked away with was somewhat melancholy.

Definitely worthwhile + worth seeing!

True and charming

The film does a great job at depicting the way of life of an older generation in the Meditterranean. Their life philosophy is simple: there's no need to search for a meaning in life as long as you have a true connection with the land.

This documentary manages to capture the essence of a well known problem in the Mediterranean. In the last decades we have seen small traditional villages being abandoned by their citizens in favor of the easier life in the city. The family farming tradition is inevitably being lost. Unfortunately many of these villages are now inhabited by people who do not have a need to connect with the land but instead to consume the nice weather, local food and the "farming experience" (essentially agrotourism).

The film avoids promoting agrotourism in any way. Instead it captures a very different picture from the other side, showing the real concerns of local people, their thoughts and how they perceive this situation.

I feel that this film makes the case that we, as Mediterraneans, need to take care of our fathers' land and continue the farming tradition as much as we can. Because, as we say, at times of uncertainty all you really need is a small piece of land to harvest the basics.

A journey for hearts and minds

We watched this beautiful little gem during the pandemia. It made it possible for us to travel to Aracà, at least in our minds. This well crafted movie achieves to tell with very personal stories of people from Aracà that touch your heart a much broader tale about the transformation of rural life and modern society. It leaves you with many question about our lifes and way of living in your head. It is also beautiful shot. The pace slows you down but never bores you. Highly recommended! Thank you for the journey!
