"Just Add Magic" is a 27-minute short film and pilot episode from January this year. I read that it is probably gonna be picked up for a series. Good for everybody involved if that happens, especially the 3 child actresses. Now, I mentioned the television series "Charmed" in the title and there are certainly some parallels: We see 3 girls experience magic for the first time. They seem to have a grandma who was a magician and there is a magic book involved. However, as it's for younger audiences, it is obviously a lot lighter than the Alyssa Milano series. There are no evil monsters, although the old woman from the book story seems evil. Instead, what happens are leg injuries caused by wrong use of magic or an annoying little brother who cannot speak anymore. And there is school troubles of course. In this one here, it is mostly about basketball training and making the team. And some struggles with teammates. As a whole, this was a good watch I think. I am not sure if I would watch it if it became a regular series, but I wasn't disappointed. Some smart writing, some funny moments and never drags. Thumbs up and I recommend it.
