Needs a re-edit

It's an impressive achievement for the main guy's first film considering how much of it he did himself (which I noticed from the credits) but think getting in an editor could make all the difference - I think there's probably a fun film somewhere in here but I found the way it was put together so odd that it was uncomfortable to watch. There are some amusing / interesting moments in the dialogue and some of the participants (comedians) definitely could have raised a proper laugh if it wasn't so awkwardly edited. I'd like to have seen much more of beardy guy! He was actually funny and had charisma, which is what I guess the film was aiming for.

Title is accurate.

Unfortunately the title was actually a spoiler for what to expect. I'm quite surprised this film won any awards. I tried to like it. But when you embark on a British comedy, you better bring your best because they are usually top notch when it comes to dialogue. The exchanges between the two main characters are only mildly amusing at best. At not an important issue, but it was hard to ignore the obscene amount of mascara the main character was wearing. He looked like he was in drag but without the dress. The snipets from the group of friends giving advice periodically were not refreshing takes away from the bland dialogue we were subjected to in the main story. They were more just a continuation of the same. Sorry. I was greatly disappointed with this one.

Hard to like

It's so hard to like this film unreservedly. It's cheap, it's slow, it's seriously padded out, but it does have some charm to it. The main actor's accent is so thick that it's really hard to understand him sometimes, but he's watchable in a geek-appeal kind of way. As a portrait of modern dating life in a sort of Harry Met Sally kind of way, this almost works. And it's a bit depressing for that. If you're into fringe stand-up and/or really indie films, this just might appeal. Or then again, it might not...

Behold the most influential film of the year. A must watch, for amateur painters.
