Get out (?)
kosmasp19 October 2017
If you take the premise - a guy stuck in an elevator, right before a zombie apocalypse breaks out ... well you should know if this is something you would like to see. If that premise does not speak to you, the movie will not have some rabbit in a hat it pulls out or an ace of spade hidden somewhere. It is what it is and for that, it is pretty decent. The effects are good and the pace is nice too.

The main actor is doing his best to keep not just the tension high, but also the interest the viewer might have (or not). But again, having limited mobility and sight does kind of take away certain things. It does add claustrophobia into the mix though. So I guess for some people this may work even more than others. Enjoy the ride and the gore, if you are into them

I'm Impressed
blanded22 September 2018
I read the bad reviews of this Italian zombie flick and decided to still give it a try because it sounded interesting. I'm glad I did. I am not easily impressed and I watch so many movies of all sorts of genres (in fact, that's all I do with my spare time) and I must say that this is one of the best films I have watched this year. I found that I was not tempted to hit the fast forward button and actually wanted to see what happened at the end, when I usually don't care and switch off out of boredom with most of the films I watch.

The End provided high tension, sure it was predictable but it is just a zombie movie, what else would you expect? It was not boring at all, I felt like the performances were good but most of the dialogue was unnecessary. One man trapped in all elevator arguing with people on his phone and through an intercom does not provide much dialogue, and it was just padded by constant use of foul language which I found rather annoying. I was reading English subtitles when I watched this and I thought, I could have still enjoyed the film even without the subs, since the dialogue is not really important. What makes the film good is the tension, the scary zombies, and for those who like gore, there is some very bloody scenes.

It is very hard to find a good horror movie these days. We are bombarded with so much trash that it makes me feel like giving up in searching for good ones, but finding The End? was worth the effort. It may not be one of the greatest zombie flicks of all time, but it certainly is not one of the worst either. I say, give it a go.

Did OK!
Patient44410 September 2018
I was kinda pleasantly surprised with this little gem of a movie that managed to keep me intrigued throughout its entire course. Don't get me wrong, this is no REC, but Italian cinematography did quite alright with The End?

So we can either compare it with Rec, 30 days later or any other zombie horror for that matter, or we can take it for what it is and try to enjoy it. Acting was ok on my part, plot easy to follow-decent and some nice kills here and there, even tho they are simple zombie deaths.

I want to say that it was a nice way to occupy around 90 minutes of my time and if I do find other such productions I'll surely keep an eye on them.

Cheers!

An SNL Sketch
jennifer62625 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
There are several movies that feature an elevator as the primary setting, from "Devil" to the aptly named "Elevator." This is the worst of the lot.

The protagonist is a cookie-cutter shallow businessman who sleeps around on his wife and treats everyone like his minions. Since the movie doggedly stays with him, 85% of the scenes do take place in the elevator. And man, does it get old. The first half of the movie depicts him calling the building engineer, the elevator repairman, his wife, his assistant and his secretary in a series of conversations that proceed as follows:

Businessman: "I'm stuck in the elevator, please help me!"

Other Person: (nonchalantly) "Oh, I'm sure everything will be fine. I am just casually stuck in traffic/watching TV/checking the generator. Hmm, what's that I see?" (pause) "Oh no! HELPPPPP!" (screaming)

(Call disconnects)

This would make a fabulous SNL sketch for the end of the world, but a terrible movie.

The End? can't come soon enough.

Decent movie!
markovd1116 September 2018
Main protagonist is trapped in an elevator and fights to survive zombie outbreak in Rome. Nothing special, but nothing bad either. It's a fun film to watch. It's nothing ground breaking, and certainly isn't scary, but it's well acted pure zombie fun, and you should treat it that way. Sure would like like to see more movies like this from Italy :)

The End
leandroagro8 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The first twenty minutes are entertaining and I wanted to see what's next. Unfortunately there's nothing next. Main character (not at his best) speaks to many people on the phone and most of them get killed, then some zombies arrives to him but he's stuck in the elevator and he's able to stay safe. Then Marcello the policeman pop up and he's like the most italian (roman) guy in the world, but he acts like he just escaped from an american horror movie (and this pretending to be american is one of the most common errors in italian movies). And so on, nothing is really developed in this movie and it's the same from start to end. Like always: it could have be a decent italian horror movie, but not this time.

Mamma's secret sauce.....
s32761694 September 2018
They used a lot of mamma's secret pasta sauce on this little Italian zombie flick. A flick that combines a zombie apocalypse back story with another, by now, well known dramatic ploy, that is, being trapped in a lift.

So whilst I can say with candour that The End? does nothing new, its decent pacing, interesting, believable characterisations and basic but watchable zombie action, works quite well.

This film hummed along and kept me wondering what was going to happen to the key protagonist. I did like the nicely rounded end scene too, which injected a little light humour into the otherwise blood soak proposition, this film represents.

I suspect, depending on your sensibilities, you will either like this film, as I did, or hate it. I don't think there will be any "in betweeners" on this one.

7/10 from me.

nothing new, with an unpleasant main character
valentinabonomelli29 May 2019
It's the usual outbreak story, made way worse by the fact that the main character is unbereably detestable, selfish and stupid, from beginning to end. You don't find yourself rooting for him AT ALL. On the contrary, you end up hoping he's gonna be taken by the zombies.

REPETITIVE.
andrewchristianjr26 December 2023
Well-directed, well-acted and technically accomplished, but the film loses itself somewhat as a result of the screenplay, especially in the second half where the attacks begin to feel repetitive and the action fails to progress as swiftly as we'd like.

Synopsis: Mega-congested Roman roads, a broken-down elevator and an invasion of zombies. Three hellish situations are meted out in quick succession by new 33 years-young director Daniele Misischia, who was previously a cameraman and second-unit director for the Manetti brothers. And it is, in fact, Marco and Antonio Manetti, the golden brothers of Italian genre cinema (Love and Bullets [+] being their last success) who produced The End? [+], an apocalyptic horror film set almost entirely in a lift. It was presented for the first time at London's FrightFest in 2017, before travelling to the last Rome Film Fest, and it will soon be showing in Italian cinemas from 14 August onwards.

Watching a jerk in an elevator for two hours
mkivtt18 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Wow, what a waste of time. I fell asleep for 30 minutes halfway through and had apparently missed nothing - the main character, a total jerk, was still stuck in the elevator, yapping on the phone and intercom. Random people and zombies die when they stick their head through the half-open elevator doors. Nothing else seems to happen. More blabbing on the phone, more random zombies bashed in the head... booooooring.

Great pacing and good protagonist
petersonamani093 February 2019
I love the pacing in this movie. It wasn't too fast or too slow, yet still held me on my toes as to what would happen to the key protagonist of the film. On the other hand, it would have helped if there was another protagonist to the film, someone to help him keep his head on straight whenever he did panic or start yelling out of frustration.

But all in all the plot was basic but good, it helped that they threw in claustrophobia in there as well.

Annoying to watch
andysfatpants6 March 2020
I love zombie movies. Sometimes I even enjoy the really bad ones if they are entertaining in some way. However, this one was just annoying to watch from beginning to end. You couldn't even find it entertaining from a corny or comedic perspective. It was just plain bad.

The whole movie revolves around a man who they set up to be a totally unlikable douchebag from the start. He is an obnoxious businessman who shouts instead of talks, treats people around him like pee-ons, cheats on his wife, and tries to force an objecting woman into having sex in an elevator. And this is just the opening scene... what a winner!

As the movie goes on, we don't find any redeeming qualities to his character. Instead, he is consistently annoying, incredibly stupid, cowardly, loud, emotionally unstable and terrible at handling a crisis situation. Absolutely NOT the kind of guy you'd want to face the apocalypse with.

The few other characters that make appearances in the movie aren't much wiser. The actions of both the human characters and the zombies are often stupid or make no sense other than deliberately designed to serve the main character's needs. Abysmal.

And the ending... oye. I think they made a feeble attempt to have the main character come out looking like a hero, even though he did absolutely nothing heroic or intelligent the entire time. And the ending was just a joke altogether. They may as well have had the main character wake up in bed and realize it was all a dream.... it was that bad.

If you want to watch an annoying man make phone calls, shout, scream, and cry in Italian for 2 hours, then watch this. If you're looking for a thrilling or even remotely entertaining zombie movie, then definitely pass on this one.

Rubbish in the elevator
sailorpapa18 September 2018
Boring, Pretentious, too far away to compare with '28 days later' or 'the walking dead'. the actor's performance in this movie was so so bad. I'm not a hardcore zombie fans but i think I'd rather to be stuck into the elevator in 100 mins to sleep more than sit somewhere down to watch it. What a rubbish.

It could be better
dsonvo-315-3583438 April 2019
The story concept was interesting..... But when the show run...... very slow and no any development on THAT trapped MAN! It turned out to be that he was not capable on doing anything to survive indeed! He couldn't even control himself! The story line said that "he was trapped in the metal cage" .... I'd say that "the guy was lucky to be in that metal cage"

If he was not trapped, he would have been killed in seconds!

Boring

Bad italian movie
Alessandro-AA2 May 2020
Usually i don't write reviews about movies because in my very little free time I prefer to watch them instead of writing about them, but this time I felt it was the case to write something. This is an italian movie, an italian television (RAI) production. I'm italian too and I know what I'm saying when it comes to italian movies, especially RAI productions: these usually are very mediocre and propagandistic products from Rome. Tourists think about Rome as the romantic city of lovers, of eternal beauty and sunlight, but its soul is made of darkness. It is a peculiar one because it is not just a city of power but the city of powers (italian state bureaucracy, catholic church, mafia, masonry etc.), that is a city of lies, violence and corruption. Movies from Rome reflect this situation: they are an hypocritical and laughable facade of a rotten building, made by mediocre actors (they aren't even able to speak italian, they only speak roman dialect) and mediocre directors. I gave this film a chance in the hope it would have been different but it wasn't. The acting of the main character is very poor and the zombies aren't funny neither terrifying, they are just poor stupid actors. The director tries to create suspense by suddenly zooming on objects and by a questionable music selection, but there is no suspense at all, just a bad B-movie stink. If you are looking for a very interesting zombie movie, I suggest a french film that I enjoyed recently: "La nuit a dévoré le monde" (2018).

P.S. Just a word for the fans of movie mistakes: the protagonist used a disposable wheel lighter to light a cigarette but, when turning off the lighter, you could hear the typical clanging sound of a Zippo lighter.

A character journey
james-ogburn-19955 November 2019
For a movie that uses minimal setting and settings, it is not necessarily something to watch purely as a zombie-gore flick. It's not a movie that really caters to viewers who are watching purely for entertainment or something on the side. What the movie really excels in is its development of the main character ,as it progressively erodes his previous personality and perspective of the world and values. I found it a fascinating watch in the sense for this reason, similar to other movies that have tried the same, (Phone booth or whatever that movie was again), It really manages to do it in a believable and engrossing way, that has you re-evaluate the character as it progresses.

TLDR: A movie about personality and perspective more then zombie action and exploration.

I've seen SO much worse...
AndyVanScoyoc31 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Even in Italian and not being able to understand much dialogue (watched it on Amazon Prime) this movie was 10 times better than many American zombie movies I've seen.

Maybe because I couldn't understand much of the dialogue, I couldn't get the same gist as so many other reviews where people said the dialogue was boring.

The only real downside to this movie was no subtitles. It's pure laziness to make a movie in another language other than English and yet offer it with no English subtitles... especially when you're going to offer it on Amazon Prime US.

It's a okay movie for narcissists
minecraftheroslim24 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The main character or protagonist is a unlikable narcissist. The character was intentionally written to be one. I guess the entire point of the main character being a narc was a simile to the behaviors of the zombies. No one likes zombies and all they care about is eating people and treating them like meat. So, I can agree with the filmmaker if that's why the main character was unlikable and stupid.

The entire film is centered around the protagonist being trapped in a elevator, which ends up saving his life. He's trapped. The zombies couldn't get in. But, he hollers at anyone who's willing to save him. I also think the filmmaker was also making another point---that these are the kinds people who usually have everything in life. Narcissists.. Especially, within companies and the business community. The main character is a successful business man. Has a loving wife. That he's not even loyal to. As the narcissist leaves the elevator near the end, he uses the extra energy to retrieve a wrist watch off the floor and put on a jacket coat for his bruised ego. If you can get by looking at a narcissist for almost two hours, then the movie is okay.

This movie was really good!
thomasthewolfe19 December 2018
I have gotten in the habit of always reading the reviews before I watch a zombie movie, and I have seen A LOT. i have been through almost the entire wiki list of zombie films, but I check back occasionally because I would hate to miss one that could be awful. I have seen some horrible ones and some really good ones and ones that people say will be bad usually dont bother me that much. Usually some schmuck complaining that the zombies are too cliche.....which to me translates into "zombies acting how zombies should act"....or "the peoples emotions or responses are too cliche"........and I got to the point where i thought maybe the cliche answers about cliche things in the movies were bogus. It turns our I was right again with this movie.

I wanted to rate it a 9/10 but figured I would give it top marks just to offset the morons that left very low scores. The reason behind that is that this movie is awesome! I have seen the one about the guy who gets stuck in a bathroom stall during the outbreak. The elevator is different so it had its own challenges, but they were handled well. Not just well, really well. When he finally gets the chance to get out, I caught myself telling him to stay put. I didnt want him out of the elevator. I dont know about the budget, but it seems they had enough money to do whatever they wanted and do it really well. It shows because the movie is good in almost every way. the style of filming, the actors and their character development, the scenery, the suspense.....what did I forget?

I would have not been surprised if this was a warner brothers film or something based on how well it was done. This is one movie that will be not only hard to forget, it was done so well it spoiled me with zombie films a bit, so from now I might stick my nose up to some other ones I might have liked but will probably suck compared to this.

Dont believe the stupid reviews that talk about "indy" films or "low budget" or "cliche zombie". They were looking to be critical from the start and they found it, surprised? This movie is great and if you are looking for a zombie movie that keeps the pace going, has a good plot with twists, drama, gore, good characters and stuff like that, you will like this.

Wth people this is better than a hoard of other zombie movies
schlagzeugplayer27 May 2020
This was pleasant surprise. The lead was perfect for carrying this movie along, The plot been used in many movies but not a the added stress of Zombies. Man trapped in an elevator. Throughout it becomes his nuisance, anger, fear, place of safety, portal to the outbreak and more things ( no spoilers ). Does he make it well remember the Title The End? Oh and there is a reason for 28 days later references I've seen. The soundtrack has subtle musical melodies that even in their key changes harken to 28 days later, not a bad thing but definitely there.

He is treading the jerk line extremely close...
athies8 July 2019
I anticipate she will be "unsweetened" next time we see her.

He looks a little like Matt Bonner if he died his hair.

This guy loves to say his own name.

He's gonna have to push that out of view.

At least know he'll remember which is the business end.

I hope he has a backup.

Save your bullets and use the pole.

Use your pole to reach it.

It's way to soon for that.

Eventually it'll become white zombie noise.
