what an inspired bit of casting with parker posey
davidm-1414 April 2018
I really, secretly want her to break into a rousing rendition of "Teacher's Pet" - her audition piece from Waiting for Guffman while she screws everyone over a la Dr. Smith. How shady will she get - who knows. This is only 3 episodes in. I have a feeling when Don West shows up again, he isn't going to be so happy to see Dr. Smith.

The quality is increasing as we go, which usually happens with sci-fi. People get more comfortable with characters and the plots go a bit deeper. I'm hopeful this will turn out well. Netflix hasn't had many stumbles. I mean, unless orcs show up.....

Still in Disaster Survival Mode
GunnersMate16 April 2018
This episode picks up right where episode two left off - our crash survivors are still trying to get out of the ice. We continue to get flashback glimpses of what brought our characters together as the Robinsons and Ms Smith struggle to survive. This is a largely dark episode (danger presses in from the outside and blooms out from the inside) in color scheme and blends science fiction with a monster movie feel - which was actually rather fun. While suspension of disbelief is a requirement for any good sci fi tale, this one had way to many practical nonsensical elements to feel plausible (because, yes, it's easier to believe in shape-shifting robots than a computer system that doesn't have alarms when people hit potentially life-threatening buttons...), but the family's progress (personal and otherwise) was ultimately a solid addition to the continuing saga.

Where's the storyline

Warning: Spoilers
3 episodes in and I don't know what they're trying to do. Let's ignore that and focus on the fact that there is plenty of unexplainable plots yet. Let's ignore that too

Let's -not- ignore that a scifi series's physics rules make no sense. The writers never attended science classes. How come there can be vegetation in a planet that rains diamonds that tear through skin and trees. And why the hell they still think they are close or in Alpha Centauri after they are the ones who discovered they might be on another Galaxy. I was going for a 8/10 but a 7/10 will do good.

What if John Robinson spoke to Maureen, the way she speaks to him?

Warning: Spoilers
Yes, there would be protests everywhere!

Yes, in this episode, the misandry continues without apology.

The plot continues to be weak and predictable, no sense of danger, anywhere, and I don't know how Will failed the required test to board the space mission since *no one* is showing any level of intelligence! Lol

"Dr Smith" isn't a clever and scheming evil genius anymore - she's just an unpredictable psycho that with a little conversation with her would reveal, but the idiots just let her walk around without suspicion or security.

I was hoping there would be improvements with each episode, but instead it's getting worse.

Excellent

I must say this series is great ,i love che complex story and those kids really know how to act.Doctor Smith is a real villain, you know from the start who is a good character and who is the evil one.In the sci fi shows of the last years, except this one, almost everybody is a villain ,a thing which is becoming a real cliche.

Still enjoying the adventure

Warning: Spoilers
Science aside, this is more fantasy. That's okay with me as it has been the same with Indiana Jones and James Bond. The impossible becomes possible for the hero(es).

Finally, the ship is up and out! Yeh!

I am wondering how the characters June left behind are doing and when they will come back to the story and meet up with the Robinson's... and the "doctor".

I am not liking the villain at all. Nasty person!

Also wondering, doesn't the robot need more fire? I'm starting to worry about the robot.

I hope we get to see Selma Blair again, somehow.

First Contact.
southdavid16 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
With episode three, "Lost In Space" remains a watchable, if not essential, show that contains little moments of ... ridiculousness, I suppose, that undermines the hard work done in other areas.

The story focuses back on the ship, as the Robinson's try to get the engines firing as the glacier they are parked in is starting to collapse. Judy is still struggling from her ordeal trapped in the Ice and John is concerned about the strain the adventure, and Maureen's demands are putting on the kids. All of which is being closely observed by "Dr Smith" who appears to be looking for the cracks and weaknesses in each of her new shipmates, that could be exploited later. Having discovered that the fuel tanks for the ships is being strangely depleted, this leads the family to their first contact with some indigenous life.

Parker Posey's Dr Smith remains the most watchable part of the show. It begins with a flashback, and an inspired casting cameo that reveals how June ended up on the Alpha Centurai mission in the first place. A second flashback shows the lengths that she was prepared to go to stay on the mission but also, crucially, as with episode 2 it's self-preservation that is her driving factor. She's not prepared to kill, but she is prepared to "not save" - this provides an interesting counterpoint to end of this episode, when she chooses to stay and help The Robinson's rather than stealing supplies and heading off. Will this change of heart last? Well.... No, probably not as the show is going to demand conflict to proceed.

This week's undermining science garbage comes from a scene when Judy is "trapped" under some boxes that have pinned her down as the ship has fallen further into the ice. She manages to reach a wrench and undo some connections between the boxes that makes them light enough to push away. It's not as "bad science" as previous weeks, but it was shot and performed in a way that's very unrealistic

Three episodes in "Lost In Space" is firmly in the good but not great bracket, we'll see where we go from here.

Distance measurements . . .

Why do they keep referring to the millions of light years left to traverse? Alpha Centauri is 4.37 light years from earth.

Infestation is an improvement.

This entertained me a lot more than the first two episodes. All the characters Problems are getting bigger as the stakes are getting higher.

This is a step in the right direction and is the best episode so far in my mind.
