Good Idea & Mediocre Execution

Warning: Spoilers
''It's the quiet that gets to you in the end''. So in this short film our main character is Paul. In this fictional post-apocalyptic world where most people have died, the only way to stay alive is to be as quiet as possible. Not being quiet or being loud is a death sentence. We don't know why though, it could be some kind of monster which is attracted to sound, but that's just my theory. It's similar to A Quiet Place (2018). Paul is absolutely isolated and all he has is his memories of his loved ones and how the world used to be before the apocalypse.

It's obvious that everyday Paul is falling apart, even becoming suicidal. We also see other characters who made mistakes that led to their deaths. In the end there is a scene with the characters before the apocalypse which is very wholesome and makes the whole film even more tragic. To me the actor that plays Paul isn't very convincing, his performance is mediocre, that's probably because it's all voice over. I don't really get that post-apocalyptic / end of the world vibe I was expecting. I wanted to feel true despair and hopelessness but I don't really get that by watching this film.

So the concept is solid but the execution is mediocre. My rating is 6/10.

be quiet

A man in a van, opening a can. His words as portrait of gestures to survive. First rule - be quiet. No whisper, no cry, no sounds. And the nearest , in different forms, of death.

Inspired story, well acting, fair ambiguity.

A beautiful short film, working more than well as warning. Or parable. In essence - images of gestures, effects of loneliness for long period and the final decision/ refuge/ image of freedom.
