The second part of this two part drama deals with the aftermath of the murder of Sandra Rivett.

Lucan realising his mistake then attacks his wife who is coming down the stairs. Veronica survives and runs down to a pub in a distraught state.

Lucan flees and goes to visit a friend and he also contacts his mother.

The rest is conjecture. Lucan disappeared and was never seen again. Did he evade the authorities and go into hiding? More likely he committed suicide or even murdered. This drama imagines that after friends like John Aspinall protected him, they arranged his murder after he became an embarrassment.

The story has a focus on the establishment players like Aspinall and Jimmy Goldsmith banding together to obstruct the police investigation. Trying to massage public opinion. They had no chance, have you seen that moustache on the photos of the real life Lord Lucan. It spells out villain.

Lucan's family still try to portray Veronica as unstable and unfit to look after her kids at the coroner's inquest. In the media circus the victim, Sandra Rivett is forgotten.

You can understand why such a drama has taken so long to get on the screen. ITV had to make sure the main players were dead to avoid libel lawsuits.

The framing device of the writer Pearson conducting interviews allowed the drama to indulge in the speculation.

The drama was an anti climax. It was always going to struggle after the events leading up to the murder. There was just too much guesswork going on leading to fiction more than facts.
