I fully understand that people's opinions vary/diverge about this show. I, too, often thought there was too much malice and filth. But right now, with Hollywood war-mongering like never before (currently it just cannot be people with an ethnic background - except for North Koreans of course - , so Europeans are demonized and the others instrumentalized), Shameless is a glimmer of hope from an unexpected place - while honorable shows such as Blindspot, Lucifer, Superstore, etc. hit rock bottom - and addresses this topic in the first episode of the eighth season brilliantly. That is: The episode ingeniously and courageously addresses several media practices and the government: The psychopath Carl, who has found his place with the army, where he does not need to have a mind of his own and is allowed to shoot, raises the flag and quotes: "Make America great again", an ICE official tells Veronica that she can imagine that Russians are currently of little interest, and - the best gimmick - : the African American Liam is only admitted to a private school to permanently use him for promotional purposes as the model minority. Cause this is exactly what the protest has brought: no color blindness, but an even higher emphasis on skin color, in order to instrumentalize the people in question - it could not be more racist, even if the direction is a different now. Hollywood never learns and subsists on hate, without it it is lost. Bravo, Shameless, please keep up the good work. Finally, a series from the Home of the Brave which honors this expression. Everything else is just a cowardly distraction from the real / internal problems.
