According to the BBC, the series isn't based on (or inspired by) the book The Coroner by M.R.Hall. Now that we've got that out of the way...I grew to like the Coroner as it progressed to series 2, and then the rug got pulled out by someone in TV authority so adios to series 3:( Not happy at all.
Oliver Gomm as Clint looks so much like David Spade's doppelganger big time. He doesn't get much screen time in this episode and maybe a spin-off can feature Clint.
Ramon Tikaram plays luxury resort developer Don Shapur. I felt Don was a bit one dimensional and Ramon deserved better in his acting portfolio.
Robbers dressed as pirates ambush a cash van, and there's a major twist in the identity of the faceless man found washed up on the beach. Socio-economic issues arise with the local culprits complaining about tough economic conditions. Davey alluded to this in a heated conversation with Don, pointedly saying that Don's luxury resorts would have third generation Lighthaven fishermen waiting tables, not that there's anything wrong with that.
Unfortunately this is the second last episode of The Coroner. I love the Coroner and it's a miscarriage of justice it got axed. It deserved a third season on all the metrics. The Coroner is a show I can watch over and over, like Inspector Lynley, DCI Banks, Rosemary and Thyme, The Last Detective, New Tricks (all unjustly axed), and Vera (thankfully still on).
Why can't another station pick up The Coroner? The Coroner deserves a third series and more.
