Vote for me!

Warning: Spoilers
First and foremost, I have to admit that Inspector Jack Mooney is, for me, not as charismatic as his predecessors. The others were more one-of-a-kind and brought a touch of humor that I appreciated and no longer find.

Secondly, the script isn't bad, but two points bother me: 1) When I go to vote (in France) at the opening of the polling stations, there are already several people waiting. Here, there are only the candidates running for mayor and the son of one of them. The murder couldn't have taken place if the scriptwriters hadn't skewed reality.

2) If the victim had screamed while being stabbed, the murderer would have been arrested immediately. The risk of this happening was so great that it should have discouraged the murderer, or at least made him consider another stratagem.

Considering these two points, I doubt that such a murder could have taken place.

Meet your new mayor!

Warning: Spoilers
The political intrigue of Saint Marie comes to the fore, and the upshot is that Catherine Bordey (Elizabeth Bourgine) is elected mayor in a hard-fought contest that appeared to defy the opinion polls, and was the most important election since world war two, and had the highest voter turnout since (insert historical event). Anyway, this is the season finale, and DI Mooney (Irish comedian Ardal O'Hanlon) is settling in well, along with his daughter Siobhan (played by Grace Stone). Anyway, on reflection we don't see much of Bordey in her mayoral capacity from this episode onwards, but no doubt she works hard behind the scenes rather dutifully.

Fine in the long run!

Warning: Spoilers
The sixth season of "Death in Paradise" has been pretty decent overall with "Erupting in Murder", "The Secret of the Flamme Tree" being fine, "Stumped in Murder", "Man Overboard: Part 2" good, "Man Overboard: Part 1", "In the Footsteps of a killer" being very good and only "The Impossible Murder" okay at best. "Murder in the Polls" ends this season in the above average way.

Let's start with good, shall we?

. The production values are great as usual. Everything looks and sounds good. The acting's fine too. Nicholas Gleaves gives the most enjoyable performance.

. The murder mystery is nice with some good twists, turns and red herrings. Really liked what Dwayne does to help Catherine! Dwayne Myers is a true friend, one who is not seen much in real life.

But...

. The solution to this mystery is unfortunately one of the less surprising of the past few seasons. The identity of the killers (the two woman) were not hard to figure out. That's because of some pretty obvious clues given early on.

. The humor doesn't always maintain its quirkiness and can come of cringe-worthy. Jack Mooney is still not a very interesting character. Ardal O'Hanlon portrays his character in a theatrical way, which at times just does not work.

. The dialogue is some times exposition-heavy too and does not feel natural.

Overall, a fine day in Paradise.

Murder in the Polls

Lovely to see Jack settling in at this stage, and forming links with the other characters. There is a sense Ardal O'Hanlon is still finding what works/doesn't about the character, and that's fine too.

A good mystery being told here, though Catherine was discredited as a suspect a bit too easily.

Dwayne is annoying as ever, but other than that, fine.
