The Flash - S03E11 Untouchable
j_forbesy8 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
In this week's episode of The Flash, we got a mainly character focused episode. I always love when shows take a step back from the main story and spend a bit of time developing the characters, which then add towards the end goal of the main story. While we got another Flashpoint villain, he was more of a secondary storyline is the greater view of the episode.

It's easy to say that this was Joe and Wally's episode to own, and they did own it. I've always loved the character of Joe but I've felt that this season he has been pushed to the side a bit. Not that he isn't present, but his actual impact in the main story has felt a bit low. Most of the reason why I think that is due to the rest of the team keeping him out of the loop. We all knew it was only going to be so long until Joe knew the truth and we all knew it was going to go down one way, emotional. Having an actor like Jesse L Martin makes this show what it is. I always give Gustin and many of the other cast members a lot of credit for their performances, but this scene with Jesse L Martin takes the cake. The pure emotion portrayed though this scene is felt heavily and it is heart breaking in many ways to see a such a great character like Joe have this amount of sadden during this scene. I think this is will go down as one of my favourite Flash moments of the all time just because of the impact it has on not just the story but you as the audience.

Touching on the lighter side now with Wally, I thought it was great how he was handled this episode. In many ways he was the lead of this episode and it was very reminiscent of Barry at moments during the first season. I'm liking how we are seeing Wally not only enjoying the perks of being Kid Flash but the struggles with it. You can tell he is dedicated to doing the best job he can, but the frustration when he falls short. I thought the moment where he fazed through our villain was great because not only did we get to see him achieve his goal that he had been working so hard at all episode, but because it was a good passing of the torch moment where Barry needed Wally to do what he couldn't in that moment of time. I know on any other day, Barry could of fazed like Wally did, but it was the fact that he trusted Wally in doing something that Barry struggled to learn last season.

There is only really one other thing I took out of this episode and that was the progress in the relationship between Caitlin and Julian. We all know Caitlin has had no luck with love on this show and chances are she won't again this season, but I'm liking how they are using her as that way Julian can connect with the rest of Team Flash. While Caitlin still has Cisco, I've felt in the recent weeks Cisco and HR have done a lot of work together since Wally has joined Barry out in the field. Because of that, we get this interesting dynamic between Caitlin and Julian where they are both sort of outcasts who can bond through their common fear of their own powers.

Overall, while it wasn't the biggest episode of The Flash, it was still a very good contained episode that I think will be viewed as having very important character moments as the season kicks on. We now have a week break and then we return with Gorilla Grodd and more Earth 2 after we got a teaser through Jesse Quick at the end of the episode. It's a bummer that we do after wait that extra week, however I think it is going to be well worth it.

A Test For Team Flash
ThomasDrufke7 February 2017
At first glance, this is a filler episode. Clive Yorkin doesn't add anything relatively new to the series that other one-off villains had, but tonight's episode posed a serious threat to the team both mentally and physically.

I'm not sure this show has the guts to kill off Iris, but they sure are milking out this storyline for better or worse. It reminds me a whole lot of Arrow teasing a team member's death last year from the first episode. But in this case, it's much easier to get emotionally invested because we know it's Iris from the get-go. It also doesn't hurt that both Candice Patton and Jesse L. Martin have been fantastic as of late. The latter particularly had a memorable night.

So Yorkin gave the team the conundrum of having the ability to turn everything he touches into ash. This became particularly frustrating as Yorkin continued to take out cop after cop in pursuit of taking down those who wronged him during Flashpoint. It's not the fast nor probably the last villain Julian aka Alchemy created, but I'm glad that this gave him some extra incentive to help Team Flash. And really, that was the episode's greatest strength, the team. Sometimes the CW shows are so packed with characters and plot lines that certain characters get pushed to the background but tonight seemed to highlight everything that Team Flash can bring to the table. Caitlin and Julian worked on the autopsies, Cisco and Wells ripped off one-liners to provide comic relief, Barry and Wally trained for the future, and Joe headlined everything by giving the best performance of the evening. I couldn't have asked for a better team effort.

But who knows if the effort will be enough come May. Savitar may be sidelined for a few episodes but he will make his return. Even if Iris doesn't depart, he will take someone. The future, much like the past, has a way of fixing itself back to what was originally going to happen in some way shape or form. As devastating as it was to see Joe find out about his daughter's supposed fate, I'm betting it will be equally hard to say goodbye to the person who does die. I think it's still most likely Julian at this point. In all, tonight's CSI style episode continued the string of solid episodes since the break. It's all but guaranteed that will continue next week as the Team travels to Earth-2 and Gorilla City with Jesse Quick & company.

+Another really well written and well-rounded adventure

+A test for the team in more ways than one

+Jesse L. Martin killing it

Nice phasing!

Barry is now able to vibrate a super-fast train fast enough to phase, nice innovation for story telling. At the end, the tune is fantastic when Wally starts learning to phase through objects.

Barry getting more powerful :D
idontquit-209307 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was straight out amazing. Started off with a great race, I personally thought that barry was actually holding back his top speed, but nevertheless, he still won. I actually like the chemistry between Dr. Snow and Julian, and I kinda ship them a bit :D.

Wally was pretty good this episode, I didn't really like him at first but I guess ill like him soon enough. I kinda think he is immature in a lot of ways, but that'll change soon enough. Wally won't be the one to stop Savitar, because in the future, barry was the only one powerful enough to dethrone Savitar and trap him. Barry just has to take car of his mental blocks that are preventing him from getting faster.

I was actually amazed how Barry was able to vibrate a 500 ton train fast enough to phase. thats actually pretty OP, but it did exaust the speedforce in Barry's cells to the point of being disorientated, so he can't do that all the time, but DAMN that was amazing.

Next episode looks amazing. Im actually scared on how much money CW has spent on gorilla city, and i kinda understand why they would take a 2 week break. But this two part gorilla episode will be AMAZING.

Overall, I give this episode a 10/10. This is the first time I've seen a flawless episode in a while in my opinion.

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: Untouchable
lbramson11 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Iris is nearly killed when Wally fails to save her. The last episode did a lot for Cisco and HR, this episode is practically Wally's origin Part 2 (Shade is Part 1). Clive Yorkin is a pretty bland villain, much like all the other one off villians. Aside from that, this episode is solid with some triumphant moments. Wally phasing for the first time will have you clapping in your seat. It's so satisfying and feels so heroic. I don't care that Iris is dying or the villain but everything else is s well done origin for Kid Flash. Another great episode of Season 3 to pile up.

7.7/10-Good episode! 👍

Working Together
cobi-806208 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
What I'm particularly liking this second half of the season is the theme of death that they continue to have in every episode. Ever since the mid-season premiere Iris's death and their mission to stop that from happening has been pretty good.

This week's villain had the very touch of death and that made him a tricky adversary to defeat. Clive Yorkin, who actually never got a villain nickname, went after the cops that locked him away in the Flashpoint timeline. Joe became the third person to get attacked by Yorkin because he was one of those cops and this led to Iris becoming a target later on in the episode. I really like how it took the whole team to defeat Yorkin. Julian and Caitlin found out who the meta was, Cisco and HR figured out that they could vibe Flashpoint, Barry saved the train and Wally learned to phase and thus stopped Yorkin. The fact that Barry made the train and all the passengers phase was awesome. Phasing should be used more often. All I'm left wondering is how they defeated Yorkin in the Flashpoint timeline. Didn't he have his powers in that timeline?

The race at the start of the episode was great, set up the training of Wally learning how to phase through objects. Barry still being able to show that he's the more cunning speedster. While it's probably not going to be helpful in saving Iris I do think next power on the list should be to throw lightning. Barry learned that power in very short time but we don't know if Wally has any limits to what powers he can achieve or if he will get a power that Barry isn't capable of. It would make their team ups more interesting if they were good at different things with their powers. There is something that I've come to believe though, Wally getting faster might be because Savitar wants to use Wally as a host and that is why he's been able to get so fast in such short time. There has to be some reason because why else would Alchemy(=Savitar) have given him powers. I'm afraid Barry is doing exactly what Savitar wants by training Wally to get faster.

Evidently Flashpoint hasn't been totally forgotten and according to Julian there is still another meta out there created by Alchemy. I wonder who that might be and if it could be Caitlin but she has no memory of it.

At the end of the episode a distressed Jesse Quick appears telling Wally that Harry has been captured and taken to Gorilla City by Grodd. We might be having the best episode of the season coming in just two weeks!

All in all I think this episode did great by having all of Team Flash be part of defeating the villain and the continuous use of death as a theme for the second half of the season is working out pretty effectively.
