Salty meets Galore!
pgasael29 July 2016
I liked the Teen Titans original series. I will still recommend the original series. But, when TTG came out, the first 4 'Teen Titans Go!' episodes are good, up until the show got downhill, spatted the characters, action and drama, and came this...the one what everyone's talking about...'The Return of Slade'...the worst 'Teen Titans Go!' episode of all time.

THE GOOD: The Adobe Animate CC animation is colourful and clean. That's the only good one. But...

THE BAD: ...the whole thing is VERY misleading. With a plot of Cyborg and Beast Boy putting a clown for the Titans' party, rather than The Titans (not be confused with LittleBigPlanet 3's 'Titans') fighting with Slade. The 'Teen Titans Go!' AND 'Teen Titans' fans wanted to see Slade, but as soon they gave their fans the middle finger, they maded this non-sensical, bad, middle fingered episode. The writing is very bad, it focused on modern Cyborg and modern Beast Boy putting a clown for the Titans' party, until they make some adjustments, and goes out-of-control and wrecks havoc Jump City. The gag of Starfire afraid of clowns is annoying and repetitive, thanks to her loud scream.

In overall, fans of modern and classic 'Teen Titans' wants to see Slade, but they gave the middle finger, and it should had been scrapped. Weak, misleading, non-sensical and a annoying, repetitive gag (Starfire being afraid of clowns), skip this one, and watch the original.

A More Nuanced Review
specboy4 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Most of the reviews I've seen of this episode are basically just people whining about how it insults the original Teen Titans show. Which, make no mistake, it does do, but I think it needs a more nuanced review than that. See, there are more objective reasons why this is a bad episode, even by Teen Titans Go standards. So without further ado, here they are.

1. It was a ratings trap. Even if this episode hadn't been intended as an insult to fans of the old show, the fact remains that it was advertised as "The Return of Slade" in an effort to trick fans of said show into watching it. This kind of false advertising is shamefully exploitative of a show's audience no matter when it's done, and it NEVER has a good reception. Remember when Family Guy said they would kill off Brian for good, only to bring him back a couple of episodes later? Even fans of the show realized they'd been tricked.

2. It totally misunderstands the original show. If we go with the traditional interpretation that the clown is meant to represent the original show, which people like because of nostalgia and because it was "darker" and "grimmer" than Teen Titans Go, then that metaphor is a bad one. Yes, the original series could be serious at times, but it also had its own moments of comedy. In fact, in its day it was by far the most humorous superhero cartoon on TV! And back then, just as now, there were people who disliked the original series due to its comical nature. If the writers of this episode wanted to argue that the love for the original series is overblown, they failed spectacularly.

3. Its message is delivered in a hypocritical manner. The episode hammers into viewers heads the point that adults and teenagers should not enjoy things intended for children, because we are only doing so out of nostalgia. The problem is that the episode itself contradicts this. Raven is shown throughout the episode to be a fan of a My Little Pony-like cartoon clearly meant for young children. But unlike Cyborg and Beast Boy's obsession with the clown Raven's interest in this cartoon is never presented as wrong, even though by the episode's logic it should be. To make matters worse, Raven is the one who calls out Cyborg and Beast Boy for being immature, yet she obviously has no problem pursuing immature interests herself.

In sum, the episode does not understand its own subject matter, it forgets what message it is trying to deliver, and it was advertised using an underhanded and unscrupulous method. One need not be a fan of the original Teen Titans to see that these are flaws. This is an exceptionally bad episode of a mediocre-at-best show. The only thing stopping me from rating it 1/10 is that a few of the jokes occasionally made me chuckle.

If this isn't a sign that Toddler Titans needs to die, I don't know what is.

This episode was specifically made as a ratings trap to trick original fans of the show to end up watching it only to get duped into something else, specifically a episode stating that the original sucked and that the only reason that people liked it was because of nostalgia. Its highly affected from the Straw Man fallacy which makes the argument fall flat. The main problem is that the a lot of Teen Titans Go! fans wanted to see Slade, so its not only a giant middle finger to the fans of the original of but also Teen Titans Go! I hope that people learn about(not watch) this episode so that this show can end because its arrogance is really starting to become irritating.

Tsk Tsk Toddler Titans
candyapplebee30 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Really Toddler Titans? Really? You make an episode called "The Return of Slade" and there is no Slade first of all. Creating an episode just for rating bait is NOT going to help with the fact that everyone hates this show. And to the Nerd who says this show is good and is for Children (^) 1. I am a child and I hate this show. 2. I was born when the original Teen Titans was on. 3. This show is technically saying DER, KIDS BE STUPID! WE CAN PUT WHATEVER WE WANT ON THIS SHOW AND THEN WONT NOTICE A THING! 4.The first time I saw this show I was excited because of my Nostalgia for the last reincarnation. But this, this is just horrible. Toddler Titans will and must die. How they got through over 100 episodes I have no Idea but I don't want to see this messed up annoying show that shoots Middle fingers at their own fans and Teen Titans fans.

...why does this exist?
kaimoney5 August 2020
If you like the original Teen Titans series, you are probably excited that Teen Titans Go made an episode all about Slade. But this episode was clearly a ratings trap tricking old fans into watching something else. That is just evil and unforgivable. Slade doesn't even appear once despite the title, no no this episode is all about Beast Boy and Cyborg hiring a clown and then making it evil causing havoc around the city. You know this wouldn't be so bad IF THEY DIDN'T ANNOUNCE THAT SLADE WAS GONNA BE IN THIS EPISODE! I can't believe CN would do something like this. If they did this for a April Fools prank this would still suck, but at least it made sense. No this episode aired in July 2015. If you're a Teen Titans Original fan and haven't seen this episode, do yourself a favor and never EVER watch this piece of junk.

A comic rebuttal of the critical nonsense from 30 year old men watching children's TV.
richardwicks14 October 2019
The episode, return of slade, only features Slade briefly. Slade is a vehicle for the show to explain to it's older audience who dislike the show that it is not aimed at them. Teen Titans Go! is a program aimed at young children, it is not the program you were watching 12 years ago, when you were a child. A very needed episode.

This is a very good episode. I would rate it higher. It is a middle finger to haters and why they complain too much about Go not being as good as the original Teen Titans. Cyborg and Beast Boy wants a clown but they compare it to the hate go has gotten,. But, luckily for the titans, Starfire does not trust the show's hatred.
