Masterful Animated Storytelling! Warning: Spoilers
I don't think there is ever a dull moment in Steven Universe; the characters are completely lovable, the animation is vibrant and expressive, and the production values regarding the story and voice-acting is all top-notch stuff. Probably one of Cartoon Network's best episodes from 2015! In this episode, we see Garnet and Steven make a horrible discovery in the infamous crystal 'Kindergarten'. They meant to pursue Peridot, but unfortunately Amethyst and Pearl couldn't track her down. Garnet and Steven discover that buried deep under the 'Kindergarten' are mutant gem-hybrids that were left on Earth to wither away. And apparently these gems were the aftermath of Rose Quartz's rebellion against the Gem Homeworld. Read this review and thought that this would be simple kids stuff with farts and giggles throughout this episode? You thought wrong. This is the best science-fantasy television cartoon since Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood! This episode is captivating from the get-go, and though it starts off innocently, it's incredible how deep Steven Universe can truly go when the story calls for it. And we get to see some truly great scene between Steven and, my favourite new TV-alien, Garnet! These two characters really are the heart of the show for me. And this episode honors both characters beautifully.
