Bone expert Ben Garrod is a genial host as he shows us around the extraordinary and fascinating way the animal kingdom has evolved skeletons equipped for speed or for fighting off other males. In the search, he drops weights on sheep's skulls, handles walrus penis bones, and visits natural history museums around the world. He looks at huge mandrill teeth (purely for show), and lions' fangs (for killing wildebeest). And how do animals fly? Some evolved a huge hand, others wings. I never knew that the cheetah achieved amazing speeds by having a uniquely bendy spine. And did you know that snakes have a lower jaw in two parts so that they can swallow animals larger than themselves? Fascinating facts.
