A weird and wonderful television series purely devoted to great British delicacies

I remember watching the first three episodes of this series sometime last year, which focused on roast dinners (the main feast taking place at Castell Coch in Wales), puddings (sadly the most forgettable one) and fish and chips (those giant fish finger-like things containing cod, chips, mushy peas and saveloy were priceless). More recently there was a second series focusing on pies, curry, chocolate and afternoon tea, all of which were memorable and featured more of Heston's wacky yet creative ways of serving up his feasts. I was especially impressed with his enormous Great British Chocolate Bar, the pie in the sky meal and the afternoon tea that featured edible serving plates, teapots, cups, saucers and teacups.

Heston's weird yet wonderful way of cooking is not the only advantage of the series but the programme is also informative with regards to Heston giving viewers the history of the delicacies he attempts to recreate. I also like the animated opening sequence and the time travelling sequences, the silent movie style title cards in between and the whimsical theme tune and the incidental music if it is quite rare.

Overall, 'Heston's Great British Food' is his best series to date and every bit as good as his previous series that centred around feasts dedicated to a particular historical period, a decade of the 20th century and even specific meal times such as breakfast or Christmas dinner. 9/10.
