Haven't laughed that hard at every bit of SNL in awhile! Great episode! Ryan Gosling was superb! Chris Stapleton was wonderful, all the skits had very humorous moments in them. Some of the cast had moments where they broke which to me makes the scene even funnier! Having other celebrities show up unexpectedly is also a wonderful experience! I truly hope they keep SNL going on as long as possible, they help launch the careers of a lot of successful comedians. Don't want to be in a world without it and am looking forward to next season! I truly hope that they can continue on for another 50 seasons!

Best SNL episode in years and years

Every single sketch worked...every joke landed. Breaking character has never been this funny. A very cohesive and extremely well written episode. Ryan Gosling was top notch but the entire cast was stellar!! I don't know what the writers did but they should keep doing this going forward! SNL has just returned, y'all! As a viewer you get pulled in with one of the best openeres in ages ....and if you think that's when the episode peaked you are heavily mistaken...it only gets better! The Beavis and Butt-head was one of the best comedic acts I have ever seen! Loren pulled out all of the guns for this one - absolutely amazing!

Best episode in years

Warning: Spoilers
I have been a loyal longtime viewer of SNL for almost 30 years now and this episode was one of the best I've ever seen, particularly great for this season.

Starting with the cold Kate McKinnon opening, these alien abduction skits are a personal favorite and it just continued to hit hard skit after skit.

I especially enjoyed the hilarious song and having Chris Stapleton with the amazing vocals...it's going to be hard to beat this one.

I hope this is the start of streak because this was an all around good time and I have recommended it to pretty much everyone I know.

If you're browsing these reviews looking for a fun watch, this is the one.

Best show in 30 years

Warning: Spoilers
Ryan Gosling is a true entertainer. I had wished in another forums comments early in the week for Papyrus 2 and Alien Abduction with Ryan part 3 with a guest appearance by Kate and I was fan serviced like an unbalanced five blade. Kate wasn't the only cast member returning, Kyle Mooney made a welcome return as the Avatar graphics designer and of course Emily Blunt in the monologue.

While Ryan may be a phenomenal actor and entertainer isn't a professional comedian per se so being able to not break in almost every skit is forgivable. Heck Heidi Gardner is one of the best at not breaking and completely lost it in the now iconic Beavis & Butt-head skit. Most of the rest of the skits were top tier too. The engagement one absolutely killed me.

And finally even though I'm not a country music fan I actually really like Chris Stapleton. Altogether it makes sense that this episode now has one of if not the highest rated SNL episode on IMDB.

Mostly bad

The deluge of guest stars tells me that this show doesn't suffer from a lack of talent on a weekly basis, it suffers (heavily) from poor writing. Bottom line, the jokes are mostly just not funny. Bland. Safe.

Take this week's opener. Giving "high school jock who realizes her best days are behind her" vibes, Kate McKinnon pops by for yet another take on the alien abducted lesbian. Every version of this skit is identical. Woman gives "funny" names for her vagina and butt. That's the whole bit. As a side note, this is Kate's 3rd or 4th visit this season. Why did she even bother to leave?

The rest of the episode consisted of a lot of "breaking". Let me let you in on a little SNL secret: The breaking is on purpose. Jimmy Fallon had an old trick that if a skit was bombing, "fake break" to make it better. This entire episode was just break after break. One skit it made sense, the rest it just grew very tired and stale quickly the more it happened.

Loren Michaels just does not trust this new cast. So much airtime is given to guest stars, like he doesn't trust his own cast to be able to do the job well. Watch the goodnight part and you'll see them in the far rear, waving like "Hey remember us...the cast?"
