Bassward and Squidiot Box
pinkieojamajo7 December 2023
Bassward is already a highlight of Season 14, i really loved Squidward and Bubble Bass dynamic in a Planes Trains Automobiles type road trip. Their personalities clashing on how they're both snobs in different ways, it's really funny and surprisingly this is the first episode with no spongebob. Squidiot Box is alright, this is the first of the "25th anniversary" episodes and it's alright overall. Some people are blowing way out of proportion over some retcons to the original Idiot Box episode. I couldn't care less if they do because it's SpongeBob there's no continuity. They're just taking something from an old episode and giving a different spin. I do think it's pretty unique of showing SB and Pat's imaginations at work. Squidiot Box is nothing to get irrationally angry over, it's SpongeBob. Lighten up and have fun for once.

BassWard is amazing, but Squidiot Box...not really

Warning: Spoilers
BassWard is a super great episode featuring Bubble Bass and Squidward trying to tolerate each other on their way to Jetsam City (I thought they were going to Shell City at first). It's a really funny episode and I'm glad that Squidward isn't being tormented by SpongeBob and Patrick for once. Speaking of which, it's pretty weird that this is the first episode to not feature SpongeBob at all, and I cannot believe that it's written by the same guy who wrote Good Neighbors (Mike Bell).

Although for Squidiot Box, it wasn't that good. Not to sound like one of the guys who look for minor nitpicks, but the imagination box repair scene was totally 100% unnecessary and it ruins the whole point of the original episode (Idiot Box). I really wanted it to have no screen time and let Squidward's imaginary adventure have more screen time.

The second segment is disappointingly lacking
garyviews8 December 2023
Modern day SpongeBob has always done interesting things to try and make the show feel fresh. Whether it'd be sprucing up the animation quality or trying to work around with unexplored character dynamics.

BassWard is a nice episode. Although not as good as other better modern episodes, it was very interesting seeing Bubble Bass and Squidward interacting with each other and trying to tolerate one another.

As for Squidiot Box though... it is probably one of my least favorite episodes of the modern era, and it's particularly not a really good sequel episode either. It has a lot of creative ideas and is definitely equal in quality to the modern seasons, but the unfortunate side effect of this episode is that it misses the point of the original "Idiot Box" episode by having the cardboard box being the reason their imagination works to begin with. It also has a LOT of repetitive jokes and stale/cheap animation. It felt like an executive mandated episode with how it was paced together.

Hopefully the rest of this season has better sequel episodes, as this is supposed to be for the show's 25th anniversary. I was very disappointed by the second segment. In short, I give this pairing a low 6/10.

True meaning. Lost.

I understand going back to the basics and repeating ideas in perhaps an attempt to recreate the origins of SpongeBob comedy but this is a poor attempt. Losing the true meaning behind the episodes. This once was a goofy cartoon that taught imagination, creativity, uniqueness, kindness, honesty, and many other moral truths through a couple of innocent minded characters trying to make it in the "world". When the characters lose their innocence and become more judgmental and less unique from their surroundings the show loses its meaning. Such as squidward becoming more like SpongeBob and Patrick or SpongeBob and Patrick becoming more critical.

Squidiot Box has no reason to exsist.
cashworld15 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I hate how this show has devolved in the recent episodes. I liked BassWard but Squidiot Box is Awful. They didn't need to make this episode. Squidiot Box is just a slap in your face and a cash grab. They need to start using more original concepts. I just hate Squidiot Box since it completly misses the point of its original episode. The viewers are NOT suppose to see the imaginations of the characters and this is Squidward torture. In Idiot Box, it is up to everyone to keep their imaginations private to see what's going on. Squidiot Box dosen't do that at all.

Rating: 0/10 SCUMBOB.

Don't even waste your time with this trash.
