Hekla joins a Housekeeping school in Reykjavík. Despite her age difference with other students, she quickly finds herself at odds with Guðrún, the school's headmistress, and is troubled by haunting reminders from her past.
Snædís witnesses Hekla assaulting her former boyfriend, and Hekla implores her to remain silent about it. Meanwhile, the theft of silverware from the school puts Hekla in the spotlight as the main suspect.

After completing her therapy and with Gústi withdrawing his allegations, Hekla joyfully reunites with her daughter for the first time, keeping their happiness a secret.
To maintain her visitation rights with her daughter, Hekla agrees to end her relationship with Gúst. She soon gets an opportunity for unsupervised time with her daughter, but doubts her ability to manage it.
As the semester at Húsó nears its end, Guðrún, the school's director, helps Hekla cheat on a drug test. Faced with this act of deception, Hekla must decide whether to continue down a dishonest path or to confront the truth directly.
